If there's been an illness or death in their family/staff, then I apologize for this review. Or maybe the business is closed, but they haven't disconnected their phone yet? I've phoned this company and been connected with their voicemail at least four times over the past month. I've been calling to see if they work on domestic vehicles as well as foreign vehicles as their name implies. We're down to one car and their shop is the closest shop to us, and all of their reviews are great, so it would be ideal if they could work on our car. I have to say I've been confused that they can't be bothered to either answer the phone in person (ever) or at least return a call when I've left numerous messages (ever). I have known about Dave's auto repair for 18 years and always heard good comments. We have a 2006 VW Passat and warranty is up so we looked to Dave's for maintenance. 1st visit was this summer and they did a splendid job w/ brakes, oil change, tune up etc. Went back this morning, the headlight burnt out again. Darrell fixed it w/o an appointment on the spot. It took him 10 minutes. The dealership always charged us for 1 hour of labor. I can recommend Dave's auto repair without reservation! Daryl is the man! He diagnosed a problem with a squealing serpentine belt on my car and fixed it within seconds. The belt was installed by a bigger shop which told me the squealing sound was coming from "deep within my alternator" and that their work on my belt did not cause the squealing issue. A national chain had previously charged up the AC in my Nissan Xterra, said there was no problem with leakages, and sent me on my way...only to find less than a week later that it was no longer functioning. Having lived in Fremont for 10 years, and frequenting the Niles area, I stopped in to Dave's Auto to have them check out the AC. The service was prompt and friendly, and arrangements made for a follow-up after the recharge to verify if and where the leak occurred. I have been bringing my car to Dave's for the last 15 years. We knew the previous owner (Dave) who handed the business over to Darryl and his wife Jodi. Darryl and Jodi are great! Their prices are great and they get the work done in a day. I just drop it off in the morning and pick it up at the end of the day. This is a great local family-owned business. They know our names and are so friendly and personable. A few times I had some minor problems. Darryl said to just bring the car by and he would take a look. He took a quick look, fixed the problem within minutes, and sent me on my merry way without... without charging me! I never feel like I am being cheated by my mechanic. That's not something you can say about a lot of mechanics out there. His two dogs greeting you out in front are great too! I can't say enough good things about Dave's! read more

This is a funky little repair shop that's been in the same family for ages. i've had a few repairs done here and for the most part I've been satisfied. Because it's a small operation service can be a bit erratic (for example I needed a quote for an additional repair and no one ever called me back, but they were helpful when I finally called them back to ask for the quote again). It's just a sort of casual quality that's either disarming to someone who expects a bit more service or maybe it's simply a slightly disorganized operation. I will say that I really like the feeling I get when I do work with these folks in the sense that I can trust their opinion and overall honesty. It's so hard to find a mechanic you at least feel you can trust so I'm probably going to stick with these guys for awhile. read more

I live a few blocks from Dave's and have had two oil changes done on my Mazda 3 at Dave's. Daryl and Jody are very pleasant and I haven't had any issues at all. The first time I went they had one mature dog, I have forgotten what type, but a hunting dog type. This time they also had a six month old puppy of the same breed. I am puzzled by Kevin W.s review. There are two dogs, not vicious or intimidating at all. I asked Jody and Daryl about Kevin's bite incident and they knew nothing about it. I don't see any review from Kevin about the type of automobile work he had done, so I find his review very puzzling. Kevin, do you know the difference between a bite and some dog slobber? For those of you looking for quality service at a very fair price I would have your car serviced at Dave's. While the name says "Foreign Auto" they work on all foreign and domestic models. What I really like is that they get your repairs done quickly (usually the same day) and they don't try to sell you work that isn't needed. And they really stand behind their work! I have been relying on Dave's Auto for years ..... from the days when it really was owned by Dave but now it is Darryl and his wife Jody and the great service has continued. Whatever the problem - big or small - they fix it - sonetimes at no charge. The most recent fix was an intermittent problem with the electronic lights registering an emergency problem. I took it over to the Mercedea Benz dealership and they wanted $180 just to look at it and diagnose the problem. So I took it to Dave's Shop and Jody did an internet search which suggested that the bug could be fixed by replacing the brake switch. (A $35.00 part). The part was ordered and fixed in a day all for around $100. This is just one example from many ..... they are so honest and hardworking. I give them a 5out of 5!!! read more

My wife and I have been going to Dave's for many years. The owner had been working there for quite a few years, and became the new owner when the previous one retired. At first, we were a little concerned if he was ready to handle the whole operation. He is an excellent mechanic but does not have great people skills. Not to worry . . . his wife joined to handle most of the communication stuff and all the details needed to run a shop like this. So the last word is that we get great service (and repairs) at a very fair price. And the owner also has a vast network of resources he can call upon when needed. read more

We have been going to this repair garage for years and are very pleased. They are walking distance from my house in Niles so yes that makes it convenient. Many times I just drive in and ask a question and he stops everything he is doing and puts some machine on my car to reset something or tell me it is ok for now, all for no charge. I guess no charge because we take our cars there for everything so we are a good customer, but they are honest, prices our competitive, they do a great job and they are both very nice people. I went in for a new alternator. The price was reasonable and the work was done quickly. Unfortunately, the alternator failed. Dave's Auto replaced the alternator at no cost to me because it was in the 90 day warranty. Unfortunately, the alternator failed again and he replaced again with only a $22 cost of new battery connectors to ensure that the power was not draining due to cable problems. This is a family business. The son and wife took over from father who started the biz many years ago. Good and honest people. I highly recommend using this family business. read more
