We've…read morebeen on a lot of visits, the admissions team was personable, organized, and balanced, providing key information while also being respectful of families' time. Campus was beautiful, even on a not-so-perfect weather day. Large enough feel to make one realize they're in college, without urban sprawl to make one feel lost. Many building are beautiful. Some dated, but that's why we have capital campaigns, right? :) Our tour guide, Alina, was simply phenomenal. Clearly authentic, unscripted, but yet knew all the pertinent detail. She made the trip so much better than others we've been on for either of our two boys.

Fast forward to when I checked Blackboard, and it showed that I couldn't register because of a new hold on my account. I went to the help desk, but they weren't able to assist me, so I contacted the registrar's office. The woman I spoke to was extremely rude and said, "Honey, that's past the deadline," even though no one informed me of this earlier. Because of that lack of communication, I now owe more money to the school than I should. After this experience, I've decided to choose a different school.
Disappointing and Disorganized Experience…read more I was very disappointed with my experience at Gateway Community College in New Haven. Some staff members were dismissive and disrespectful, and the overall process felt poorly organized. Room 205 is one example. Students and families come to the college with high expectations and rely heavily on the information and guidance provided by staff. At that stage, every answer matters. Unfortunately, I did not feel that same level of care, responsibility, or concern was being shown. Public institutions should have strong accountability for the quality of service they provide. I believe the state should consider periodic independent reviews or external audits of student-service departments to ensure that staff are treating students respectfully, providing accurate guidance, and maintaining appropriate service standards.

I've been to three of the CT community (Housatonic, Naugatuck…read moreand Gateway) colleges and honestly Housatonic in Bridgeport has provided me with the best community college experience thus far. I have been blessed with teachers who want to help the student succeed beyond race , religion and economic status'. Housatonic is a diversified school! Anyone can call and will most likely call Housatonic a home away from home institution . Gateway is only know for their new architectural building structure of random teachers roaming down the hallways only concerned about their paychecks instead of the students career goals. As students remember you have a choice to choose and decide what college you want to go to. Do not feel locked or obliged to attend Gateway. Explore your options and means of transportation as you are charged in your tuition for bus , train fare and parking dues every semester whether you use it or not! Look into your tuition costs. Wake up , you have a choice do not remain complacent or stuck within the town you reside in. You will always have the freedoms and options you desire. Do your research and look beyond. Also where are the Google reviews and other platforms open for review on Gateway ? Biased would one not think?

I agree with Marisol, but I'll put in my two cents on top…read more I love the crowd, even if it is a little on the nerdy side. The lounge and the dining hall are relaxing spots to hang out in, and Friday happy hours come with free! alcohol and greasy, repetitive but free! food. In fact, the law school is a fantastic resource for the hungry and cheap. (Caveat: cover for 3 years will set you back something to the tune of oh...$132,000.) If you hang around at 1:00 PM or after 7:00 PM Monday through Thursday, it takes very little diligence to scrounge free Thai, Indian, pizza, and if you're lucky, something else (but you have to be quite lucky). The courtyard is perfect for hanging out in warmer months, but it may as well be closed for business during the winter. If you need to unwind indoors, the couches in the lounge and the four armchairs on the main floor of the library make for prime nappy time, and no one judges you for drooling. One complaint I have about Yale Law School is that the lunchtime crowd in the dining hall is terribly and visibly young. The library is also a total undergraduate hotspot. I think YLS would be much improved if it poached the bouncer from Anchor and made all the underaged children take their biology textbooks and study at Toad's.

I strongly advise prospective employees and job applicants to be cautious in communications with the university's Human Resources department. In what seemed like a routine email exchange, a comment I made was misconstrued as 'harassment' by an HR representative. Instead of resolving the misunderstanding, the department escalated the issue by contacting the police and issuing a formal trespass warning against me, despite my never having visited the campus. This disproportionate response has left me with a negative impression of the university's internal culture and personnel management.
Rounding out the triumvirate of architectural works on the intersection of Chapel and York Sts in…read moreNew Haven, this is probably one of the most controversial buildings of Paul Rudolph's career. Considered a landmark of design - in a way, a gesture of defiance and a rejection of gropius and van der rohe's focus on lightness, thin and airy structures - the A&A is one of the main examples of what has been dubbed a Brutalist style - thick, massive, ridged abrasive concrete columns define monolithic, overpowering vertical planes, amongst which are a multitude of horizontal levels - apparently, legends speak of 36 levels in all, creating an intricate network of interlocking interior spaces. (nyt did a useful lay piece on Rudolph in october: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/07/style/tmagazine/07shining.html) The building, because of its strong appearance, is naturally polarizing in opinion - it has drawn both lavish praise and savage criticism towards Rudolph, a landmark figure in modernism and post modernist architecture, and who was responsible for building the Yale School of Architecture into one of the late 20th century's main design institutions. Students have tried to burn it down, and various renovations over its 40 year history have radically altered its interior layout. Its current renovation is slated to restore some of Rudolph's original plans (for better or worse). It can be said that the core of architecture is how humans delineate the space around them, and the way they define that space. Whether or not the A&A is willing to agree with your aesthetics, it commands its space with a majestic and monumental gesture.

This school is a horrible place to send anyone you care about. Chris Cipriano is more worried about…read morepeople referring to him as "Dr. Cip" than he does about the welfare of the students in this school. Scott Bannon is no better he is just a puppet for Chris and does all his dirty work for him. It's unfortunate that a school with this much potential hires teachers who have no business being in a school and has a principal and vice principal who are held to the absolute lowest standards. I don't understand how the Diocese of Bridgeport hasn't removed Chris and Scott from their positions in this school. As a former student at this school, I can honestly say that because of the fact I attended this school I am less equipped for the real world and feel that my family and I have been robbed of our hard earned money and of the education we were promised here. It's unfortunate that a school with a name like "Notre Dame" doesn't live up to the expectations a name like that comes with. With a vice principal who was forced to take an indefinite leave of absence from his previous job under suspicious circumstances, and a principal who cares about nothing but power and his own personal agenda, this school really could do better. To all the parents out there looking at high schools for your children, send them to Saint Joe's, Notre Dame West Haven, Lauralton Hall, Fairfield Prep, or just public school. Honestly, sending them anywhere is better than this school. Unless you want your children to be treated like they're nothing and disrespected in every way possible I urge you to find a better school. Bishop Caggiano, if you're reading this, I beg of you, remove Christopher Cipriano and put in his place someone who truly has the students faith and well-being in mind. I truly hope, for the sake of the students at this school, this does not fall on deaf ears. -Anonymous
