This has been the single most valuable experience I've had since my father passed away to help me process, understand, and come to some level of peace around my loss. Ken creates and holds an incredibly safe space for all participants, and by the second class there was a mutual trust and warmth that our group had for one another. I absolutely credit this to Ken; as a therapist intern I can attest to how hard it is to facilitate groups -- Ken makes it seem effortless. Ken has a lot of gentle wisdom surrounding this particular topic, and I felt that he was able to meet each member of the group exactly where we were in our grief journeys. As for the yoga itself --- I actually had one of those transformative moments of joy and happiness that you always hope for when going to a yoga class. Every pose was offered to us with modifications as needed. The somatic experience was a large part of my healing journey, and each pose was chosen with care and purpose. Long story short, Ken is a genuine, caring and skilled teacher/healer/friend, and I feel very lucky to have found him.

At risk of sounding hippy dippy, he has an amazing vibe that fills his classes with joy. I've arrived to Open Heart Yoga in Oakland on days when I just didn't want to be there, when I was feeling stiff, down and cold. And I've always left feeling loose, revitalized and warm. Ken is not just a yoga teacher but a therapist, and I truly find his classes therapeutic. Ken is a friendly, responsive and sensitive teacher. He takes inventory on how each person is doing and of what they hope to get out of the class. Then he gives modifications to make sure people are getting what they need. I've been to classes where people who wanted a "workout" were worked out while for those who needed something more relaxing, he focused on restorative poses (if I'm using the right language for that). I've brought a couple of friends to his Open Heart Studio classes, and they completely agree that Ken's classes are wonderful. He teaches well for both beginners and more advanced students. One of my friends had done little to no yoga before and this class was perfect for her. And then I've done sporadic yoga for 12 years and this class meets me at my level too (note I'm still intermediate not advanced and cannot attest to whether he teaches that level, but I'm pretty sure he can throw in advanced poses too). Finally the classes are affordable with a sliding scale fee. Ken has a sun-shiny heart and his classes are a blessing. I could not give a higher recommendation.

I first started coming to Andy close to two years ago. After a few attempts in my past that either…read moredid not match for me, or I was not ready for, I didn't have much hope therapy could work for me specifically. Working with Andy has changed my life. I came to him with a specific goal to work on. I never realized with time, so much more would be revealed. Andy sets the stage of feeling safe to share, asks permission on your comfort levels, and gives sound reflection and advice to help achieve a greater self awareness. With Andy's help so much trauma was released. I went from being attracted to unhealthy situations, and thought peace and good things were boring. I wanted my life to be better and healthier, but I'd only known unhealthy ways of thinking and action to be of comfort. That kind of way of life was really self destruction. Now I appreciate and love myself, life, and others in a way that I never was able to before or even realized. I have found a strength and control in myself I did not think or know I could have. Andy is calm, caring, loving, professional and has been a key factor in my recovery in so many facets of life. He has helped me discover new joys and helped me to reveal why toxicity for so many years felt comforting and natural. This helped me realize it was not giving me life, but taking it. Through Andy I realized that wasn't life at all. It's been amazing for me to see and feel this journey with Andy. Who I was then to who I am now. It truly feels sometimes like a different person. How I handle and embrace life situations and feelings that I never did before. I know now I have the strength to experience these things, but I have control of my life in knowing my triggers and boundaries. I used to be a "never me" or expiration date kind of person when thinking of therapy. Committing to things, even for my own health, felt strange if it was something I wasn't already familiar with. Before, I never wanted to commit to something for too long or without some safety of knowing when something was going to end. Health and discovering yourself/loving yourself doesn't work like that. Now, I can't imagine my life without therapy. Therapy changed my life. It saved the good in me and brought out new joys I never knew could exist. I think of Andy as a phenomenal therapist, teacher, confidante, and friend. It might have taken a few tries but I'm so unimaginably grateful life brought me to Andy. He is one of the greatest healers and therapists I've ever known. If you are wondering if this is for you... my advice? Give it a shot. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Remember therapy takes time. It isn't an overnight thing because you have so much of your own story to share and learn about yourself. Be kind and patient with yourself and therapy. Give yourself this gift by giving yourself time with a professional to help you. You'll be shocked how much you see and especially, feel a change before you know it. Thank you Andy for all you do!!

These marriage therapy frameworks helped us not only understand each other better, but also uncover our own hidden needs, and how to meet them, both individually and as a couple.
