It's easy to ignore the 1-star reviews as outliers, but read on and decide for yourself. I just sent this bozo packing a few minutes ago. Davco was dispatched a month ago by my home warranty company. After (presumably) checking out the system, Mario Davila (Davco owner) claimed there was nothing wrong with my system. So, I guess the burning smell coming from the AC unit and the lack of cooling was just something I made up because I like spending money (??). Fast forward to last night, when the AC unit again stopped cooling. I called my home warranty company, which to my dismay, dispatched this same bozo. Mario identified (correctly??) a clogged drain, and since he didn't have the tools he needed to do the job, he needed me to supply my own wet vac to clean out a line because he wasn't equipped for such a routine task... I suppose it's a good thing for him that I have one, and that I was willing to provide him so he could do his job. Afterwards, he left my wet vac in disarray, so I guess I'll be cleaning it up from his mess and putting it back together myself. When he first arrived, I escorted him to the walk-in attic, and right in front of me, he stepped off of the decking and stepped onto the sheetrock (my kitchen ceiling)... not enough to actually fall through, but enough to crack the ceiling texture below in about a 2" diameter circle. There is now an obvious chunk of my ceiling that is damaged, and you see it the moment you walk into the room. Mario repeatedly dodged responsibility, first ignoring my pointing out the damage (literally refusing to look up at the damage I was pointing out), then throwing out the "how do I know that wasn't already like that?" misdirection. (The answer, BTW, is that the damage-- the only damage to any part of the ceiling in my entire home-- is located EXACTLY where he stepped in the attic, and after showing him that general spatial location, I offered to show him with a tape measure exactly where his step was as it translated to downstairs. He again and again and again dodged any responsibility or any interest in correcting his mistake. When it was clear he had no intention of owning up to the mistake, I told him to leave. At first, he argued back, but after I insisted several times, he left. Some other comments about his in-house "customer service" acumen-- 1) I had to tell him _6_ times to close the attic door and garage door when he went in and out. We have inside-only animals to contain. He simply wasn't listening/didn't care; and 2) he spent 10 minutes bending my ear about how I could help him solve HIS car mechanical problem (he noticed my "mechanic" projects in my garage). Perhaps he should pay me for the professional advice I provided him... after all, I didn't even step through the ceiling of his car. I have filed a complaint with my home warranty provider against Davco, and they have indicated they will take appropriate action. read more

Mario has been my go to guy for more years than I can remember. He has helped solve problems with my A/C and Heating, over three different homes I've owned and once again, he took great care of me yesterday when my system decided to take a day off. I thought I was in for a big expense and Mario quickly diagnosed ants had gotten into a relay outside. As I logged in to post this review, I was shocked to read a previous post by a disgruntled client which was very negative. His review is so contrary from what I know from my dealings with Mario since the early 90's that my first thought is to question the reviewer. Looking at his history of posts I can easily reconcile the gulf between our two perspectives. There have been times where Mario's work was finished and I asked him to change something like a pipe insulation or wanted to ask many questions to better understand the breakdown and repairs performed. Every time, Mario has been patient with me and always concientious and helpful. He once noticed our pool pump wasn't sounding right while he was outside working on the compressor and he told me he could get that sorted out for me after he finished my repairs. He wound up replacing an impeller that had a blade cracked but not completely broken. His charge for that? Only to be reimbursed for the impeller he drove down the street and bought. He gave me the receipt for that in case it broke again. He has shown me how to fix my washer once, replaced bad breakers, so many extra favors he has done for me when he was at my home for a separate service call or doing preventative maintenance. I met Mario when he was sent by my home warranty, but it's been many years since I got rid of my warranty contract, but I kept Mario. Mario is awesome! He was able to come out the same day that I called. He then followed up with me later that evening with estimates on the different financing options if I decided to replace my A/C unit. A few days later we were able to set up a day for the installation. Mario and his crew were punctual and professional. He kept me up to date on the process and showed me pictures of what he was discovering along the way that the previous home owners had tried to hide. Mario was able to roll with the punches and make adjustments as he went. Once the job was complete, Mario's crew cleaned up both inside and outside. He even provided me with the filled-out forms for my CPS rebate all ready to go in an envelope. Later that evening and the following day he called to followup and ensure that I was happy with the way the system was working. I was absolutely impressed with Mario's work and his honesty. Everything was perfectly in place. Even the tape and insulation hidden inside the closet were perfectly cut and aligned even though no one would see them. I would recommend DAVCO for all AC/Heater needs over all other company's. Mario is extremely knowledgeable and provides amazing customer service. He explains everything thoroughly as well as being extremely patient with all my questions. He is very reasonably priced against competitors especially in such a competitive market. His attention to details are spot as he performs maintenance on my AC unit outside. My AC was acting up so I called Davco because of the great service provided in years past. Mario spent days checking everything to discover small pellets were somehow traveling through the lines. I would like to recognize Davco for their outstanding service, reasonable prices and amazing knowledge. Mario is very thorough and never gave up, I know for a fact no other AC company would have spent the amount of time, energy and discovery that Mario did with my AC. Mario Davila has been our go-to HVAC guy since we moved into this neighborhood 18 years ago. He has helped nurse along a builder's grade heat pump that constantly blew circuits, then taught me how to do the same work thus saving me money. Eventually the system had to be replaced and Mario and his assistant removed the old system and installed the new system in less than a day. That was about three years ago. Today he was here working on another issue, and while here, he noticed that the HVAC drain line was stopped up, so they blew the lines free and saved us much trouble later down the line. Mario and any assistant always presents a professional image and shows a very high level of expertise. We are very glad that Mario has always been quick to respond and professional enough to solve any problem we've had. read more

I was very impressed the min Mario started looking over the a/c. He told me what was going on, why, and what needed to be done. On a hot day with my a/c unit upstairs, He didn't rush and leave he made sure NOT to leave without overlooking everything and made sure everything was properly working and cooling. My family and I greatly appreciate him and the job he did. I was more fearful in the beginning that someone would come by and just try to make a sell and leave my family and I with no working a/c. I now have a little bit of knowledge of the unit and know I can trust in Mario for when I have any related issues. I very much recommend him to any one and every one. Mario Davila, owner of DAVCO, helped me not only deal with Choice Home Warranty after they refused to repair my a/c two weeks ago, but was able to find THE ONLY 3 TON SYSTEM in either San Antonio OR Houston. I was without a/c for TWO WEEKS and sick with Heat Exhaustion for three days, thanks to Choice Home Warranty's refusal to either repair or replace my system. Mario walked me through the entire process, told me what to say to them, helped me to remain calm on the phone (LOL), and even helped me get financing for the new system. Called DavCo this morning because my son had gotten frustrated with a fancy thermostat last night in his new home & broken it, then tried to go buy a cheap one to replace it with, blowing a fuse in the process. Mario was out there within the hour, quickly diagnosed the problem, fixed it, sold us a more high-quality thermostat, and instructed my daughter-in-law on how to use the other original thermostat upstairs. In addition to all that he was friendly, personable, and highly experienced...what more can you ask for? Mr. Mario Davila is truly one of a kind! I am 9 months pregnant and woke up this morning with no A/C blowing. I called him first thing this morning and he came out within an hour of taking our call! Diagnosed the issue quickly and serviced our unit all in under an hour! While other Heating and Cooling Companies would have taken one look at our 20+ year old A/C unit and immediately tried to tell us we needed to replace the unit he used his due diligence to ensure we had A/C back up in no time! Impressed from the get go. I placed a call and the tech showed up in 20 minutes!! Most companies try to find the most expensive solution or upsell you but that's not how Davco does it. They troubleshooted my air conditioner every way possible to make sure they didn't change me for any unnecessary repairs and to ensure they wouldn't have to make additional service calls at my expense. We've worked with Mr. Davila on a smaller item (he made it out to the house the same night our AC broke and fixed it!) and we've worked with him on a new HVAC system install. In both cases he was quick to respond, trustworthy, and completed the job effectively and efficiently. For the new system install he even filled out all the paperwork we'd need to qualify for our energy rebate and provided us with a stamped envelope that had the mailing information already written in. Hired these guys to install a new air conditioner when mine broke down. They were 3 days late turning up and for some reason Mario brought his creepy kid Alexis along with him, Alexis was male even though he has a girls name, and while his father was (badly) installing the new AC I caught Alexis in my laundry room sniffing my panties. He then started begging me for a date and saying he knew where I lived and all sorts of very strange things. That's when I asked them to leave and called a real company. Pros: 1.) Answered my call and was at my house within an hour! 2.) Explained how the heater worked and what he thought was wrong with it. 3.) Left and made two trips to get the parts he needed and was still done in about 2.5 hours. 4.) Very personable. Cons: 1.) Didn't accept Credit/Debit cards at the time. 2.) I didn't plan on spending as much money as it cost, but then again, I know nothing about how much HVAC technicians usually charge and if I got a good deal or not. Davco knocked it out of the park. Fortunately this time of year I was able to shop around for total AC replacement. Got quotes. Davco beat out all others, not by a lot but still. Even a company I had used on several occasions. A friend of my wife's. Word of mouth usually best advertisement u can get. Very fast to respond to my request to look at my Heating and AC. Came the day after Thanksgiving. Didn't give me the runaround - price was very fair and honest. Got the project scheduled for 2 days later and finished the same day. I would definitely recommend him and his helper to come and give you a bid.
