Great place on Navy Rd. Came into town and the locals pointed this place out. This was not a let down. I ordered the chicken tenders with the house sauce. It was four whole breasts tenderized and hand battered with fries. Enough for two. Everything on the menu was very reasonable in price. Menu had a very large selection of choices. I'm a foodie, so I kinda knew what I was walking into with a touristy Cajun spot in Florida. I was excited because the reviews were so good. But for me, it just didn't hit. I started with a hurricane and I couldn't even finish it... it tasted off. For food, I got the shrimp skewers with Cajun rice and coleslaw. The shrimp had decent flavor, but nothing that made me go "wow." The Cajun rice was the biggest letdown. It was dry and almost tasted like it had been sitting awhile? The coleslaw was actually the best part of my plate. Service was great. Everyone was super friendly, attentive, and welcoming. You can tell they hustle, especially because the place was packed. And the vibe is cute. Very classic tourist Cajun spot, fun decor, and a covered patio which is nice if you want to sit outside without melting. To the owner: you're clearly doing something right because people love this place and it stays busy. I think tightening up consistency on the food (especially sides like the rice) and maybe revisiting the drink recipes could take it up a notch. Came in for lunch today. I wanted to see what the burger special was about. The place is decked out nice for the sports enthusiast. The decor is real nice and the TV's are placed in a great area. I had a cup of gumbo which had just the right amount of seasoning and kick. The chicken and sausage were all through. I also had the burger which was seasoned and not overcooked. The fried pickles took it over the top. On Sunday's, they have live music during brunch. This is definitely on the list to revisit!!! read more

This may be the best restaurant in the area surrounding Panama City Beach, the New Orleans style cuisine served here rival most that attempt to dish out great food with a touch of Cajun and a lot of Naw Orleans. I ate here twice while visiting the area and both were amazing - the service here is exceptional and as important as that is it's the food that had me coming back. The cooking here is authentic, we shared a variety of dishes here and all exceeded our expectations, the quality of the oysters was amazing as were the gumbo, étouffée, fried catfish, roast beef po-boy and beignets. The prices are very reasonable, the beers are ice cold and crafted cocktails are on point. The staff here during both our visits were professional, knowledgeable and attentive this shows the level of management in place here, I loved that the staff here was familiar with each dish and provided an accurate description of each when asked. This place was so good that I had to try it again. This time we dined on the patio instead of inside. The food was wonderful. The service was perfection and the patio are is really a nice touch. It's not overly crowded like some and the live music was great. We tried the "Whodat" which is the house version of a muffuletta and it was great. The grilled shrimp over rice was perfectly cooked and the sides of green beans & collard greens had just the right touch of Cajun seasoning. The chocolate martinis were a great holiday season treat. Yes!!!! That's all you need to know. Yes, try it. Yes, the food is great, Yes, it's priced very reasonably. Yes, the vibe is great. We tried this place based on a yelp review and it did not disappoint. We tried a the fried appetizer platter which had variety of items from alligator bites to rangoons to cheese bites and fried pickles...all were very good. I tried the gumbo and it was really good. For some reason the Caesar salad was mediocre but everything else was great. The kids had grilled oysters and fish with Cajun rice. For dessert I had the bread pudding...hands down, the BEST I've ever had. It was amazing. Tapping into my Cajun roots, I had to try Dat Cajun Place while in Panama City Beach. For starters, we ordered the boudin balls and gumbo soup. The boudin balls were filling, with a tangy "Voodoo Sauce" (think Raising Cane's sauce) and the gumbo was fairly spicy, though nothing can match my Mississippi uncle's homemade gumbo. I had the Shrimp Pontchartrain as a main course and let me say it was so, so creamy. I wouldn't order it again due to how rich it was, but I still liked it, ya know? I loved the dessert, which was a decadent butter coffee cake! My Cajun ancestors would be proud of Dat Cajun Place! read more

I am from Louisiana, so I love cajun food. We seek out good cajun food whenever we can. Dat Cajun Place is mediocre at best. The restaurant seems cleaner than most, so that is a plus. First of all the call/check in ahead of time to reduce the wait is awesome. You can do that in the Yelp app and it made our wait time minimal. The live entertainment was key and the girl singing and playing the guitar was talented. We went for hook and cook option because we went deep sea fishing and while I cooked some of it in the condo I wanted a more professional job to complement a job well done while fishing. They charge $9.99 per pound if you bring your fish in filleted and deboned. They did a good job cooking it but it was a hair too salty for me to give the cooked fish 5 stars, solid 4. One of the BEST places to dine while in Panama City Beach. Dat Cajun Place did not disappoint! Where do I even start? We met friends here on our first night and loved it so much we had to come back the very next night. There was a short wait, but honestly, that just proves how good this place is. It's absolutely hoppin' -- crowds coming in, crowds heading out, and big screens everywhere so you don't miss those must-see sports games. And let's talk about the beer... a $5 pitcher (nearly six glasses!) during game nights?! WHAAAT?! We were shocked in the best way possible. The food was fantastic from start to finish: frog legs, a dozen oysters, chicken-fried chicken, shrimp Pontchartrain -- all excellent. But the real showstopper was the butter toffee cake. Hands down amazing. Warm, incredibly moist, rich, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. To top it all off, our server Jess was phenomenal. Super bubbly, knew the menu inside and out, and made great recommendations on the spot. She was attentive, personable, and always smiling -- she truly made us feel comfortable and welcome. Delicious! Had a bit of a wait but it's PCB in July so.... But the wait was so worth it! Appetizers: crab balls, gator bites, frog legs, boudin balls. Gator bites were small, not many and most were just breading. This was the biggest disappointment. Other places give you bigger pieces in plenty. Crab balls were okay- could have been a bit bigger or more of the same size in an order. Frog legs were yummy. Boudin balls were big and flavorful. Meals: chicken tenders, Crawlfish Etouffee, Blackened fish creole Tenders were huge (see the pic) said to be well seasoned and good. Crawlfish etouffee was full of flavor, so good and came with bread. The blackened fish creole's sauce was on the spicy side but so delicious. Sides: fries, coleslaw, Cajun potato salad. Fries were cooked and seasoned well. Cole slaw was reported to be okay. Cajun potato salad was underwhelming as it had hardly no flavor. Dessert: deep fried cheesecake, key lime pie, bread pudding. Bread pudding was HUGE (see pic) and full of flavor. Key lime pie was amazing- one of the best I have had and the deep fried cheesecake was reported to be yummy. Server was great despite being jammed packed she did well at keeping refills coming and checking on us. Decor is fun and the live music was nice. Food - food was amazing aside from the Cesar Salad. The dressing was weird and should just be taken off the menu. Chicken fried chicken was super tasty. It wasn't the traditional way that I'm used to, but I'd eat that every day. I didn't read the menu , so I'm not sure if it mentioned it had rice or not, but it does have a bed of rice underneath the chicken and I don't hate it. I hate fish, but the wife said that was the best catfish she's had and the fried shrimp was delicious. Fried chicken strips were tasty. The Cajun fries were the bomb. I didn't even realize I was eating them without ketchup until I was about done and I eat ketchup with all my fries. The crab Rangoon was also different than what we've had and they flew off the plate. I couldn't even get a picture before they were almost gone. Could have ate my weight in those things. Service - I either don't ever catch the waiter/waitress name or can't remember, but our waiter Mario was awesome. For future reference, if you use the Yelp app to add your spot in line, it will save you a long wait sitting outside in line. Ambiance- live singer was cool. I cannot speak highly enough of the food and service here. I came by myself on Thursday night and sat at the bar, where Honor and Josh treated me attentively all night. I got the Thursday night special, which was the Cajun spaghetti, and the weekly special oysters, which were baked with mozzarella, bacon, and glazed in pesto and butter. The pasta was flavorful and had a perfect spice level to it. The oysters were top notch. If you don't believe me, believe the award won by Josh for being the top oyster shucker in the world. I figured I'd try the dessert given how the rest of my meal was, and the bartender recommended the bread pudding. This thing is absolutely massive but so delicious. The people sitting at the bar were all so friendly and struck up conversation with me, and it bode well that they were all locals. One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. read more
