Great with gluten free! WOW! I ordered one of their gluten free grilled cheese, they legit grill the bread and it was delicious. The gluten free bread did not fall apart like most breads. The flavor was outstanding! Mine had Crispin cider soaked apples and bacon...melt in your mouth good! I ordered mine to go so I cannot rate on service, but the bar tender took my order via phone and he was pleasant and knowledgeable on what I could and could not have. They make their own salad dressings and they are tasty. I ordered a side salad in place of French fries and it had the good lettuce, not the cheap ole iceberg. Lot's of beers on tap, many of them local to IN and MI (including ciders!) This is a great hang out for my fellow gluten free people. Wish I lived closer. read more

The cozy downtown location is off Calhoun street nestled right next to Pint & Slice. When you walk in you will find exposed brick, vintage signs and rich wood. Along the wall you can gaze at local art pieces that are available for purchase. They have a bar rail, booth and table seating. There is also a back room which offers overflow seating or a more private group area. During the summertime they also offer outdoor seating. The staff has always been fantastic and friendly. Ask them about the different beers on tap and they can answer your questions! I love that they keep their tap rotating and always have fresh new things to try. I am a HUGE fan of the tomato bisque soup paired with any of the gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches on the menu. Another one of my favorites is the black bean burger. Tried this place for the first time today, and it did not disappoint. Great coffee to start, and a glass of water large enough that we needed no refill... this is rare. Wifey had the French toast casserole, and loved it. I had the big breakfast and and we shared a half burrito because we were both curious but didn't want to make it our meal this time... priorities, you know? So the long and the short of it is that every last ingredient of every menu item we tried was fantastic. Seems as though anything weak simply never made the menu. This place is a real hidden gem tucked into a downtown store front. Street parking is available around the corner. We parked in the city ramp which is effectively two doors down. Lastly, kudos to the staff who were all masked properly. A genuine effort to keep from spreading illnesses, which is somewhat rare in Fort Wayne. Well done in every aspect from seating to exit. After our last experience, I recommend dining in instead of using a delivery service. That way if there is an issue with the food, you can have it corrected. I try to stop by the Dash-In for lunch on a regular basis, when visiting family in Fort Wayne. Over the years, I continue to order the delicious grilled Mediterranean sandwich, which contains hummus, provolone, artichokes and other tasty veggies on sourdough; I would be majorly disappointed if it was ever removed from the menu. I typically ask for the daily pasta salad as my side dish, as I find the pesto veggie soup choice to be a little bland (or in need of salt). I also recommend any of the grilled gourmet cheese sandwiches, and was able to sample a couple tasty dishes off of their not-highly-advertised weekend brunch menu. The Dash-In's draft beer selection is typically diverse (or at least more interesting) for the Fort, and the baristas seem to put more care into their espresso/coffee items than many places. Most memorably, one barista drew a bunny in my chai latte foam, during a recent springtime visit. I've read that the Dash-In has been incorporating more late-night, live music events over the last few years, but I've unfortunately have not been able to visit during these show offerings. Downtown Fort Wayne can appear so barren at night, so it is great to read that the Dash-In is trying to draw in more foot traffic. I enjoy the brick walls and the restaurant's general environment, especially in comparison to most of the generic chains that populate the city. Service is not memorable, but adequate. read more

Id say all five stars buttt service doesn't really cut it here. Ive been here many times and nearly every time the service feels more like "im here for a paycheck " one time i went with a farely large group of friends and we were bar hoping so we got only a few beers here. Only one of my friends got food. As i was walking out one of the servers was cleaning our table and he said iutloud. "Of course the one who doeant gets food barely tips me.." to me thats rude! The environment is pretty chill with beer prices on a chalk wall behind bar. The prices are really steep compared to most downtown bars. I can get the same drink but more of it for cheaper right down the street. Other than that i do like that the food here is pretty good. Came and and had a blast at this local watering-hole/gourmet bar food joint. We didn't eat here so I can't comment on the food...BUT the bar and bartender (Marshall) were awesome. They have extremely unique beers on tap that I have never seen anywhere else in the world. Marshall was excited to explain all the different styles and give you samples of the extensive selection. I started off with a sour beer which was awesome, and then after sampling pretty much the entire line up, ended up having a creme brûlée stout with a scoop of ice cream and a splash of raspberry beer. It was freaaaaaakin awesome. The dash has a great vibe. Good music, friendly service, a menu that looks very tasty and interesting AND it's a pretty affordable place to spend an afternoon OR evening. I have been here twice now. The first was better than the last. The last time we were there, it was literally us and two other people that were about halfway through their meal. So, you can imagine my disappointment when my soup and grilled cheese came out room temp. On with the good... The beer list is AWESOME! (Altho, the were out of a couple we were interested in.) We met Emily, the owner, at a local winery and decided to try Dash In. Boy are we glad we did! The restaurant has a large craft beer menu and a nice small wine selection. It is located two doors from the square in a charming storefront. The narrow facade belies a deep restaurant with bar, table and it seating as well as a back room that can be used for private parties. The menu is large but not overwhelming. It features nine different grilled cheese sandwiches. I had the Bruschetta and a cup of tomato bisque soup. The sandwich on crispy sourdough featured herbed cream, goat and provolone cheeses with tomato bruschetta. Both were wonderful and welcome comfort foods on a cold, rainy Indiana day. Steve's burger was good and he chose the house made kettle chips as his side. He enjoyed both. The service was prompt and polite. There seems to be a mis-communication between manager and staff with which menus to use...prices were different on each menu! They went with higher price when we questioned the pricing...so ok...economy has been hard on everyone. Bought Pick-two lunch and was charged extra for a sandwich which was included in the pick two...tomato bisque soup was super good! Coffee was barely luke warm...way overpriced on a small serving of chips! Sandwiches were supposed to be warm (we asked ) and they were cold! I've never been here until this past summer. I've been 3 times now, and I'm mad at myself for not knowing how good this place was. They have typical American food, but their specialty seems to be gourmet grilled cheese. I laughed when someone told me to try their grilled cheese, but then I looked at the different flavor combinations they have...and now I understand. The grilled cheese sandwiches are amazing. They have a great beer selection, a full bar, and what looks to be a large coffee selection as well. Tastefully decorated, I've had great service, and everything I've had on the menu has been good. Hipster chic little bar. Grilled cheese and burgers are the daily grabs. I was a bit turned off when I asked for my burger medium rare and was told that it would be hard to get to that doneness. Naturally I asked why and was told that they partially cook their burgers ahead of time so it cooks faster. Needless to say, I went for the grilled cheese. It was OK, nothing to write home about. Our waitress was nice enough. For potentially partially cooked food it takes a while to come out of the kitchen. Their brownie of the day is an espresso brownie. They have an espresso desert always on the menu and coffee. Why oh why are you duplicating a flavor that has a love/hate relationship? Who plans this menu? I watched them pour it and sit it on the bar, then abandon it for 10+ mins before finally bringing it over. I'm quite content with a cup of coffee for a decent period of time. This is one of my favorite spots to get brunch (make sure you get there before 11am). Their breakfast burrito is a tried and true favorite that is perfectly paired with the red skin hash browns or a side of bacon. I also love the slop and the dash breakfast sandwich. Portion sizes are large especially for the price. I would love to give Dash 5 stars, however the service is always a bit on the slow side. It kills me to write this review - I've been a frequent customer to Dash-In for quite some time and never usually have a bad experience...but today...oh, today. Why did you let me down, Dash!? Stopped in for lunch around 11:10-ish. Not very busy, in fact all the servers were pretty much just standing around. I felt a bit freakish as I walked in, because they just sort of stared...hope I didn't have underwear stuck to my pants or something. Sat down, drinks were ordered and food was ordered. Our server seemed nice enough. Drinks came out in a timely manner (though, it was iced tea, and neither of us could really tell is was tea until we took a sip...magical light-colored tea they have there). Waited....and waited....and....waited....and............waited. Oh, and we waited. And waited some more. The people who ordered their food right before us received their food in time. We sat and waited, drooling as we caught glimpses of their soup and sandwiches. Did I mention we waited? It was well after 11:45 by the time our SALADS came out. Oh, I didn't mention that part, did I? We ordered SALADS (Asian Chicken Salad, to be exact). What the actual....heck.... Must have had to grow the lettuce and veggies before they could make it. Before we knew it was coming to the table, we did inform the wait staff that we would pay for our drinks, but would be leaving without our food...that seemed preposterous to them. Miraculously, the food came out, but the waiter looked very confused when we asked for to-go containers. There was no mention of "So sorry it took so long" or "Kiss my rear-end, take your salad and leave." No one acted like it was a big deal. I'm not looking for freebies, but at least offer to make it right. It's a salad for crying out loud. PS - my lunch date just informed me that her salad was....FROZEN. I don't even understand. However, what most people don't know about this place is that their Saturday brunch is God's gift to Fort Wayne. They offer some amazing mimosas as well as a variety of different breakfast options. My personal favorite is the "Country Benedict" - which is an open faced biscuits and gravy with poached eggs on top. It is BEYOND amazing! Dash In is a reliable choice for solid food and beverage options any time of day. Their four menus (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and Saturday brunch) are consistent and exciting twists on classics, from their gourmet grilled cheeses to their Saturday brunch eggs benedict. Above all, for me, is their commitment to having gluten free options on hand, from bread to beer! I've had just about everything on their menu that my dietary restrictions allow. Breakfast offers a variety of light options from oatmeal to breakfast sandwiches to a yogurt parfait. Owner Corey Waldron (co-) invented an espresso machine which Dash baristas use well. They brew Old Crown coffee, I believe, and coffee and espresso drinks are available all day. Personal favorite grilled cheese: The Euro (lunch), a blend of three cheeses with roasted red peppers & the Bruschetta (night menu), a blend of spiced goat cheese and other goodness with tomatoes on gluten free bread. Their Caesar salad is not traditional, but is elegant in its simplicity: chopped greens with an oil-based dressing, croutons, and sun dried tomatoes. That's it. It's worth a try. The Seared Tuna Salad is an incredible deal: $9 for a salad that I dare you to finish. Get your tuna seed crusted and seared; you can thank me later. :) Their hummus plate is excellent as well, but I do miss when they served it warm (over a year ago). The hummus has a roasted garlic taste that pairs well with the other offerings on the plate: kalamata olives, roasted eggplant & red peppers, feta cheese, red onion, tomato, and cucumber. It's the best hummus I've ever had, and it pairs well with beer & wine. (My favorite: the Estrella Daura gluten free beer. They also usually have another option, like Redbridge, and cider, such as Woodchuck or Crispin.) If you get dessert (do get dessert), try the Chocolate Caramel Espresso Explosion. It's a nice cap after a boozy evening: a large scoop of vanilla ice cream, drizzled in chocolate and caramel sauce with a shot of espresso. All of the desserts are delightful, but this is my consistent go-to. Brunch is probably my favorite menu overall, and I can't pick favorites. read more

My husband and I are visiting from Phoenix and we wanted to dive head first into the generous mugs of white and/or dark hot chocolate. Very flavorful, this wasn't the good ole from a can soup your mom force fed you as a kid. Great beer beer selection . Good location. A neat and unique place. The Dash-In is a cozy little bar in downtown Fort Wayne. There's virtually no on-street parking, so be prepared to find a lot nearby. We found one about a block away for $1/hour. Not bad for a Saturday afternoon. I'm not sure what this restaurant is known for, but it surely isn't their great service. There was no one to greet us upon our arrival and the hostess who finally showed us to our table was not friendly in the least. My companion and I both ordered the Gourmet Grilled Cheese Sandwich - his with an accompanying bowl of pesto soup and mine with a side spinach salad. The salad greens were fresh with boiled egg and tomato (they withheld the croutons and onions at my request.) The sandwiches had pepperjack, cheddar, Swiss, provolone, parmesan, and herb cheeses with a slice of tomato on grilled sourdough. When we asked the server to exchange the pesto soup for a different variety, our server displayed an attitude. She took the soup and said she'd ask if it could be exchanged. Because we were sitting within earshot of the kitchen, we heard her telling the other staff members, "I can't believe he wants to exchange the soup!" About 2 minutes later a cook brought a bowl of the tomato basil along with his apologies. I have no idea whether this incident is indicative of the level of service typical at this restaurant. I hope for their sake that it is not. if you're looking for a quick lunch, ok. If you're looking for friendly staff with an attention to detail, look elsewhere. read more

Had downright rude and awful service here. Firstly what kind of establishment requires you show an ID to enter at 3pm in the afternoon? We had a member of our party who had a temporary paper ID (because he lost his old one....he's 24) and our quite surly water curtly informed us that it was "not a real ID" and could not serve us food. This was after we stood at the entrance for 5 minutes before someone had enough wherewithal to look up from their phone to tell us "Oh.....you know you can sit where you want right?" We tried politely explained that it was coming in the mail and this was what the state had given him. Our waiter didn't even apologize for his hands being tied or for someone backwards law that he had to follow, he just stood there staring with his arms crossed. The most unwelcoming restaurant I have yet to be in. It's unfortunate because the food looked quite good. Will never return here. read more

Upon reading other reviews and stepping into this establishment I had nothing but high hopes. Sadly these hopes were dashed almost instantaneously. With quit a crowd in attendance and no hostess to seat us, my friend an I were forced to seat ourselves at one of the many dirty tables throughout the dining room. When we finely picked the least filthy booth, the waitress discarded of all the plates and trash. However, failed to actually clean the table. When we requested the table be cleaned, the waitress returned with a soaked towel and merely left a layer of water on the table. We then had to wait a while for the table to dry. The kitchen had to remake my dish since the waitress said they messed up the order. That was fine except for the fact that they left my friend's meal sit out while they remade mine and it arrived to the table cold and soggy. The only positive about the food was the hearty vegetable soup. The rest of the food was less than desirable. The waitress was less than friendly and very unapologetic when my friend remarked about her displeasure with the meal. She spent more time chatting with a guy at the bar than she did making sure that we were taken care of. I even had to track down another waitress to get another spoon since My friend's had a huge piece of dried food on it. Cleanliness does not appear to be a big issue here either. If you look up towards the ceiling you'll notice coffee bags that they use as decoration. Look closely and you'll also notice how these have collected huge clumps of dust and bugs. The bad part is that these bags are right over where many people sit and eat. There is also a large amount of visible dust on the piping.
