Finally had a chance to stop in for lunch, and WOW was it worth the wait - they deserve 5-plus stars. Server was quite attentive, got our food orders in right away. My Deputy Yelper proclaimed that the chicken with her Vietnamese Style Breakfast was cooked to perfection, with just the right seasoning. The "over easy" eggs also looked to be perfectly cooked to over easy. I had the tofu Bahn Mi sandwich, comes with a side of what look like house-made chips, balanced with some very tasty cucumber slices. Certainly among the best Bhan Mi's I've ever had. Check out their "Das Hot Sauce" - it is spicy! In the middle of the meal, I asked our server for a hot Vietnamese coffee. He seemed to have forgotten the order because some time went by without it arriving, but that was fine with me as I actually wanted the coffee after finishing lunch. So as I finished eating, he came over, apologized for not bringing the coffee earlier, and said he'd bring it now - but wouldn't put it on the bill since he had fogotten it earlier! Does restautant service ever get better than that? The coffee, BTW, was delicious and soooo hot. I had a craving & they definitely hit the spot. My waiter was extremely helpful, kind, and all around soft spoken. It just fits the mood and the vibe I was going for. His suggestion with the coffee was great. Water as soon as I sat down. Everything was 10/10! He also came to bring out condiments right after my food was served. If I did want it, not having to ask made it so much better. I thought it was odd to have hot sauce with my breakfast but that sauce was amazing. I actually really love the flavor. There was so much annoying city stuff that really delayed it. Anyway it opened while we were away for vacation and then I just got so busy that it slipped my mind. So back to tonight. My wife wanted to go out and I didn't. Then she reminded me this place was open and I caved. We walked over and got a seat immediately. As soon as we walked in everyone was like hey welcome! And one of those people ended up being the owner. I've been looking at the menu but I wasn't sure what I wanted now that it was actually possible. The server was awesome guiding us through the menu and making suggestions based on our taste. It's BYO but don't think there isn't a drink menu! They have a whole list of mocktails which for someone who doesn't drink it's like heaven. I got the Hawaiian one based on the servers suggestion. You're probably expecting me to say I loved it and it was delicious. Both are true. I got the poke as a starter. Even my wife who does not consume raw anything tried it and was impressed. Of course she did not want more than one bite but just the fact that she tried it was out of this world. The server suggested Huli Chicken for her and I got the pork Bánh mì. I tried some of hers and the chicken was cooked to perfection. It was nice and light. My sandwich was delicious. Portions were pretty large. Homemade chips with it were perfectly crispy. Cook came out from the back to see how our meal was and then the owner came over to talk to us. It was so cool to talk to him and you could just see how much he loves cooking. Ate brunch here with friends last weekend and was very pleased. The service was good and the food was very good. The menu is varied enough that everyone can find something to eat. I had the Cobb salad, which is a favorite of mine. They were so generous with the added chicken that I didn't finish that part, but I would have liked a little more avocado. The tables were arranged in a way that fit in a lot of people in a small space, but it didn't feel crowded. It's street parking, and for a Sunday morning there were limited spaces. The friend that made the arrangements thought there was usually more parking available on weekdays. read more

They're ok, the food is decent, Asian Fusion, Thai/American. Although it could be hit or miss as far as seasonings go.. It's never really quite that busy when I go in, but they get their patrons I suppose. As for the Pros about the place: The one thing I think that sets them apart from the other local cafes is their ready-made frozen soups. The soups are flavorful, filling, mainly Thai soups. They keep em in the stand up fridge up front. They have an array of soups. A favorite seems to be the Thai Coconut Curry Soup, which I've had and is quite good. I hear the Green Curry is also good. Of course it's always less expensive to make a meal at home but for nights on your way in before you catch a train or if you live close by, it can be convenient. I've also had the cheesesteak rolls and chicken spring rolls. I'd have the cheesesteak rolls again before I'd ever get the chicken spring rolls. They were an absolute MISS. Just no flavor. Even the chicken inside was not seasoned. As it is my understanding that they make most things from scratch. Cons: Well, they don't really pass the vibe check. The service they give depends on the day. They're not really what I would call a friendly establishment but they are not all together unwelcoming either. Some of the staff are nicer than others. They provide just enough customer service that it is not considered all together unprofessional. However, the one Asian guy who appears to be the manager acts as if he can't be bothered to even acknowledge potential patrons. With that being said, they have a counter and also some table and chairs neatly about, but I'm mostly in and out. They are a cafe so there is coffee and even some specialized Thai teas both hot and cold. Of the quick eateries I've been to in the area this Thai fusion spot is not that bad. Mostly just the convenience and the flavorful soups is why I visit. I guess give them a try and see how they fare. read more

I was extremely excited to try Das Good Cafe as I'm a native of the islands and always welcome easy access to good food from home. I ordered a soup special, which I believe is only offered on Thursday and Fridays and rotates regularly. The portion size was perfect, the balance of ingredients was just right (I.e., they didn't skimp on anything and everything was in harmony), and the depth of the broth was good. The staff that helped us were quick, kind, and clearly knew the menu, options to modify, and allergen information. There is both indoor and outdoor dining space. The indoor dining space is welcoming, and there is ample seating. My partner ordered the Hawaiian breakfast, which included rice, fried SPAM, eggs, and teriyaki sauce. The food was really bad. I've come here a couple times and was excited to come here again by myself- having a rare (mom) moment to enjoy a nice peaceful breakfast alone. The waitress was friendly enough- but in the end- I was charged an extra $2 for a "berry compote", the chef (who you could hear coughing excessively in the back) should learn what an actual compote it. It is NOT just ice cold runny blueberries. The waitress (when I asked for strawberry compote earlier) said "it's mixed berries." What came out was what looked like defrosted (barely) small blueberries in a runny juice. Who wants ice cold runny berries on their warm French toast?! The biscuit was dry and crumbled at the touch of butter- which was ice cold (in those cheap little plastic things). The two eggs were fine- but I didn't even bother trying the grits as there was unmelted cheddar shreds and on it with scallions and some kind of seasoning. It did not look appealing so I left it. On top of this I was charged $12, then + $8 for a side (1piece) of French toast (with compote)- for this less than mediocre food. When I told the waitress about the compote she immediately had an edge and went to "so do you want to talk to a manager?" Wait staff should be well versed in handling such simple things- it was confrontational- and how dare I speak up attitude. Never again. Save your money and go somewhere else! read more
