In the late 1990s, I had a B-O-O-T-Y, and Darryl's was one of the few boutiques that sold clothes flattering women of all body shapes over the age of 25. He sells well-made and trendy clothing that I see nowhere else. You will not see everybody walking up and down the street in your clothes! The clothing here is sassy and classy, and there is a wide assortment--from everyday clothes to professional and party wear, and they last for decades. I still wear all the clothes that I bought from him in the 90s. I feel like Darryl is my personal stylist. He is forthright about what looks good on me, and he will not allow me to buy anything that does not compliment my figure or complexion. I always get compliments on the unique clothes that I found there. Importantly, Darryl's always has sales, and I since I only shop for things on sale, his clothing is reasonably priced. Darryl's is a NY gem that has saved me when I needed an outfit for a special occasion and could not find anything online or in the major stores. Darryl's is my favorite boutique in the universe! read more

I go to Darryl's boutique approximately twice a year for pants/skirts and/or shirts/blouses and was always very happy with the service. Darryl is usually in the store and can basically tell your size and fit by just looking at you and he picks things that are best suited for you. He is very professional and he always comes through for me. My most recent visit was on July 12th, 2026. I needed help finding a blouse that went a skirt that I recently purchased elsewhere. As always, Darryl came through for me and I purchased two fantastic blouses that went with my skirt perfectly. Thanks Darryl - I'll be back again in the fall! read more

I first went to Darryl's with a friend in 1998. I was in need of a dress for a black tie event, and Darryl put me in a gorgeous, slinky, full-length dress that made me feel glamorous. I've long since outgrown "slinky," but have been back many times for all kinds of clothes -- sweaters, skirts, blouses, jackets, a dress for my son's wedding. I just went back today, in need of something to wear to that same black tie event, but more than 25 years later. Darryl helped me put together some evening pants and a couple of stunning tops that I can wear for black tie or less dressy affairs. He is the best, his eye for unusual, yet classic, clothes is impeccable. And his ability to help each customer find what she needs and will feel greet wearing is just unmatched. read more

I hate clothes shopping. I choose comfort over looks and, as a result, wear clothes that I've owned for many, many years over and over again. Fashion does not figure into my life. One day, I went into Darryl's Boutique and met Darryl. I felt him to be down to earth, and a man with a sharp eye for what I needed, and that was the very first time we met! It was like trying on the first pair of shoes and they fit perfectly. Darryl knew to pick out clothes for me to try . . . and they are always very comfortable and visually beautiful. When I have a fashion emergency, I went to Darryl, and he found an elegant solution that I wore that night! He has helped me look more dressy (elevated?) for the occasions I HAVE to look more dressy. It's the first time I have felt comfortable while being dressy! I never thought that was possible! My analogy is that Darryl is the clothes doctor with the answers you have been looking for for a long time. He is also a very gentle coach with an artful eye. read more

I went to Darry's based on excellent reviews. I purchased 2 tops. ( keeping one) returning the other. I was then "stuck" with a $ $62 store credit. I made a purchase for about $58. The owner gave me a store credit for remaining amount. ( $4 ) I will not shop there again. Never used the $4. Store credit. read more

Don't just admire the window, go inside. I went to Darryls for the first time last week. I was only going to look inside for a few minutes. I found so many things that I loved that I ended up staying longer. Darryl and Ella were really helpful! I purchased so many clothes that were flattering, original looking, beautiful and versatile! Darryl recommended a pair of black pants that I ended up loving and wearing the next day! I bought a shirt on sale that I loved , a black sleek almost tunic length, with really long sleeves, Darryl suggested I could shorten the sleeves and they are perfect! Do yourself a favor and visit the store, the clothes I bought were worth what I paid and old fashioned friendly help makes it worth coming back! read more

Intimate store with some lovely items and Darryl himself is very helpful and knowledgeable -- a delightful place to shop.

It's not open. Tried 3 times. I wish there was better messaging. Is it closed forever or are they ill???

Fabulous Fabulous and more Fabulous- I just bought the most beautiful perfectly formfitting yet Cassie in Chorus Line dress. It was on sale so lucky me... Darryl is reasonably priced and the proof is in the pudding in that he has lasted in this neighborhood for years. You must also visit his store in Beacon, NY on Main Street. A great place in the area for any type of wardrobe need- casual, office, dressy, gala- you name it and they have it! I have been going to Darryl's for several years now and am always satisfied with the service, the selection, and the affordability of the prices. As an older woman with a few extra pounds, I often have difficulty finding appropriate, well-fitting clothes that work in a business environment. But here at Darryl's, I always get the help I need to find flattering outfits to wear to work and play -- and NEVER feel judged about my weight or age. I appreciate that Darryl remembers my preferences and takes the time to listen to what I need and to help me achieve my goals. The values are also outstanding --- clothes that hold up over the years and yet are accessibly priced. This is an unusual store nowadays - where you truly get the service you need while never being pressured. I read the very few negative reviews, and I urge people to be more open-minded. For instance, the no-returns policy is clearly stated, so please do not complain. And it is a small store with a large selection but a small staff, so don't complain if you have to wait a few minutes to be served. I promise you that it is worth the wait as they will give you the same patience and care they give everyone. I am always sad when I read a negative review of a good local business based on a one-time incident. Let's support our local businesses as they support our community. read more

The shop is chock-full-o Great office, evening and casual pieces. Glad I came upon it.

I needed pretty much everything as a result of recent weight gain. Nothing (other than my PJs) fit. Darryl whipped up a number of great new outfits for me in little time. His boutique is stocked with extremely good quality, stylish clothes that all are just the right amount different and interesting, yet reasonably priced. Darryl has a great eye, knows his inventory cold and gave me so much help, I felt like I had a personal shopper. For anyone who frequently finds shopping a painful experience, as well as those looking for something beautiful and not the same humdrum fare, this boutique is a hidden jewel. read more

I bought two absolutely beautiful pieces at Darryl's. I will be returning any day to buy more. The clothes he buys for the store are elegant, unique and very reasonably priced. The icing on the cake is Darryl himself. He is such a gentleman. He is truly appreciative that his customers appreciate him and his store. I really, really like him. So .... I have a new go-to, and I truly cannot wait to return! Check this store out! It's amazing!!!! read more

I really do not like to shop, and have a tough time finding clothes that I like and that fit me well, so when I can go into a store with a great selection of clothes (I am middle aged) and someone who gets what I'd like, well it makes me feel like I've struck gold. Darryl carries mid-range better brands - like SnoSkins, Joseph Ribkoff and Elliott Lauren - solid, well-made, classically stylish with a little oomph and at a reasonable price point. I spent a delightful half hour and came out with a sweater, blouse and pair of pants - more than I often buy at one go, but what can I say, I love my new clothes. Couldn't be happier. Darryl and the lovely assistant were helpful, but not at all pushy - will be making a trek there again before too long. read more

All I know is that my friends who have shopped here look GREAT - the apparel is eclectic but very fashionable, & reasonably priced. One friend really enjoyed the service she got from a staffer named Virginia - so I am on my way there to see Darryl's NOW and will give a more detailed update after my OWN shopping adventure. Ok, back from Darryl's: I bought 2 beautiful blouses here for $250 total, with tax. There were styles I could not have easily found elsewhere, and certainly very fashionable (my 2 blouses are private-label couture, made in Italy and Canada). My overall sense of this boutique's strength is that attractive dresses rule the day - and indeed, media ad signage clips posted around Darryl's seems to attest to this fact. I was not in the market for a dress, but I saw several ranging $99 (sales) to $300 that I would have loved to buy. From a demographic perspective I would say that this shop caters very well to women of age 35 on up, with the styles appealing to mature women who want to look appropiately attractive/sexy. There is a selection of Teenflo apparel and some other quite youthful clothing so I do think that particularly sophisticated young women in their 20s could find something fun to wear here, too. The service at this store is helpful but not pushy, and you will not be knocked over by ill-mannered fellow shoppers thanks to the relaxed boutique atmosphere and uncluttered, easy to navigate space. The only element of viisit at which I was a bit disappointed was the Yelper discount which was extended to me;my other friends had mentioned a sale-type percentage discount off their entire order, while I was given a $20 gift certificate toward my next visit. I would recommend this store highly if you live on the Upper West Side and particularly if you are in a hurry to find need a knock-out elegant little dress, or a dressy blouse. Darryl's might have what you need amongst its classy and focused selection. There is a reason Darryl's has been in business for 26 years! read more

I wear a size 12 and I had begun to think that fashion was something fun for others, but not for me. I went to Saks and their "large" was a size 8! They directed me to Salon Z, frumpy plus-size things that started in the size 16 range. Then, a friend told me about Darryl's... Such a great store....real fashion that runs the size gamut....from smalls, up to maybe a size 16. I've honestly never had so many things to choose from! And that's not even the best part....which is the SERVICE! Darryl sizes up your figure and gently persuades you to try new things! I took his advice and added some interesting patterns and colors. I feel totally great in everything I bought. Highly recommend this place....all ages...lots of sizes.....fun experience! read more

The 30% off for yelpers isn't for all items. Bought a handbag and didn't get a discount. Also, they do seem to have a good amour of sizes, but the collection itself was nothing special read more

I've been a fan of Darryl's Boutique, and of Darryl himself, for 35 years, ever since he opened his shop on Amsterdam Ave. A friend who lived in the neighborhood called me at my downtown home, saying: "You have to get up here. There's a terrific new shop." I've been trekking uptown ever since. Through the years, Darryl has supplied the staples of both my work and casual wardrobe (I still have and wear many of the items). Darryl has impeccable taste and will gently steer you to what looks good on you and away from what looks wrong. He also has a phenomenal memory for past purchases (he remembered a Ralph Lauren red shirtwaist dress I'd bought 25-plus years ago)!. He and his shop are real NY gems -- you don't last 4 decades in this city if you aren't doing everything right. And if you're ever in Rhinebeck or Beacon NY, drop in on his outpost shops!!!!! read more

I make a visit to Darryl's an absolute top priority whenever I'm in New York City. I have found so many of my unusual, lasting, "knock-out" pieces there. The clothes are of high quality, so when you find something you love, it lasts. And the price points are affordable (the shop also maintains a small sale rack with great buys). I'm into comfort, so I've found amazing skirts, sweaters, blazers, trousers and coats at Darryls. I've also found great dresses. But I can see that if I were a young professional I could find suits and silk blouses, etc. My strong recommendation. Make Darryl's a destination. You will get so many compliments and feel so good. The shop is large enough to give you a selection, but small enough to be comfortable. The staff is helpful, and if you're lucky, you can meet the proprieter, Darryl. Darryl's is a winner! read more

Fantastic service and excellent styles. Ask to meet with Darryl himself and he'll take good care of you. After recently having a baby, and returning to work, I found some wonderful forgiving styles here. I bought 3 dresses and a new suit all at once. Cool prints. All of the clothes I bought were stretchy, can be hand washed, and won't wrinkle. I'd highly recommend them for travel too (although I doubt I'm going on any trips with that cute baby of mine). read more

I wandered past their store one day and saw a sign announcing the prices were 50% off. That, of course, drew me in, but the service was what kept me there. I thought I found something nice, but the women knew their selection so well they found interesting styles for me that I never would have tried on my own. They made me look GOOOOOD! And that's not always an easy trick since I don't have a model's body. It was friendly and fun - they even have nice shoes in the dressing rooms so you can see what you look like in good shoes and not snow boots. They helped me find clothes that make me feel young but not ridiculous :) I will definitely go back! read more

I've been a customer of Darryl's shop for 10 years and I travel all the way from Delaware to shop there! The thing that sold me initially on the store was Darryl's service, and the quality and value are also good. You can go in the store and tell Daryl what type of outfit that you're looking for and he'll come up with several things for you to choose from. I appreciate that because it saves time, but more importantly, I don't have a good fashion sense and I can count on Darryl to tell me what pieces go well together, and also what looks good on me. As another reviewer said, Darryl is honest about what works and what doesn't work. The styles that the store has are classics that you'll be able to wear for a long time, but with a bit of stylishness or edginess to give people a unique look. I feel the prices are reasonable considering it is New York. Because the styles are ones that will last a long time, I feel that you definitely get a good value for your money at Darryl's. Thank you Darryl!!! read more

I have been going to Darryl since I was in college (a long time ago). His personal attention and kindness goes a long way!! Great selection of clothes for women. A real gem on the Upper West Side! read more

Apparently it would have been too much work (outside of the hard job of ignoring the only customer in your store) to greet me OR bid me farewell. The pint sized associate literally grunted at me as I offered her "thank you, have a nice day" on my way out. Apparently any knowledge or execution of customer service (or common human decency) left with me as I excused myself from that shop of overpriced polyester. read more

What can I say about Darrly's? Come for dresses, coats, blouses, skirts, and you might leave with a trendy handbag and funky jewelry to boot. Great, large selection of things, great for curvy gals sizes 12 and 14, good selection of reasonably priced items ($75 to $175, including dresses in that higher range) as well as higher-end clothing when the time is right. If you want help, say so. If you want to wander and choose for yourself, say so. One of my secret pleasures is scouring the racks of things before sneaking out of the dressing room for a peek and finally asking Darryl or one of his amazing staff of women, "What do you think?" Really, a great place to shop for just about anything, and see much of it in your closet and on your bod for years to come. -Janet read more

Wonderful service makes shopping a pleasure I'd visited Talbots, Ann Taylor Loft and Banana Republic in a fruitless attempt to refresh my work wardrobe.
