We were planning to be a guardian home for a six month old mini Bernedoodle.
When we first met this puppy, she was looking a bit rough. Regrettably, we just thought she needed a grooming. The owner was going to send us home with her immediately, without checking our references, vet history, etc. We pushed to wait a week so we could be best prepared for her and got the impression that there wasn't room at the breeder's house for this dog to stay. There were so many red flags that we dismissed that day.
Over the week we bought all the things, prepped our house, even signed her up for insurance the morning we were to pick her up. When we arrived and started petting the puppy, we noticed her ears were red and had multiple scabby scratches and bumps on the inside flaps. They were filled with dark gunk and clearly hadn't been cleaned well in a long time, if ever. Various parts of her skin were irritated, red, and she had multiple bumps along her body. Her nose was running so much that it dripped. We were told she was behind on vaccines and when we did the mental math, she was 2.5 months behind on vaccines! She doesn't know her name, has only been "pad trained" and finally got her first haircut at our request. It was clear this dog has not been taken care of medically or emotionally. The owner tried to make excuses about being sick and unable to take her for her shots, but there aren't excuses for being 2.5 months behind on basic medical care.
Our kids were beyond devastated and have cried off and on since we had to leave without the puppy. I don't know if the worst part was realizing how poorly the dog has been treated, or watching our kids have to walk out sobbing after playing with her.
Clearly this place looks shiny on the outside but is rotten inside. The owner is only in it for the money. Stay far away if you don't want to support poor puppy breeding practices! read more
