I wish there was a snack bar, but there are great local shops nearby. If you arrive in the summer, the staff will give you a parking pass that lets you park for free in the lot next to the rink. Just let the Cove Park gate attendant know that you are here for the rink, and they will let you in.

Growing up, we had a lake that froze over right by our house, and we would skate all winter long. I…read moreloved being outdoors and figure skating or trying to play hockey as a kid. This rink brings me back to my childhood. It's, of course, outdoors, and super cheap with a Groupon (under $20 total, for two, with a Groupon). That price also includes the skate rental, which are readily available in all sizes. At the rink, they have music playing, and people of all ages on the ice. Although, the times I've visited, I've mainly seen younger teenagers and kids on the ice. About an hour into free skate, if the weather is warm, the rink can get a little soft and icy, but that's what you expect with an outdoor rink. The rink can get crowded at times and a lot of people tend to gather on towards the one entrance/exit. The inside ticket area offers no refreshments, vending machines or even water fountain, so come prepared and hydrated. They do have lockers, but you pay every time you open them (quarters only), so plan accordingly. Parking is easy and people are coming and going all fay, so even on the Sunday before Christmas, I was easily able to find a spot. The staff here seems to be mainly high school students, who are attentive and very friendly. Overall, a great way to spend some time outdoors in the winter.

Norwalk Cove Marina offers 18 holes of miniature golf for $9 per adult. You won't find any…read morewindmills, loop-de-loops, or other fun obstacles on this course; rather, rocks placed in the middle of holes, "bunkers" and "rough" (made of longer artificial grasses), and the slopes and bricks shaping each hole are what will challenge your score. In a sense, it's a much more golf-like version of miniature golf that tests good putters who can plan their shots and use good touch to get putts close. And the staff has kept the course in good shape. While I enjoyed the challenge, I feel like there is a missed opportunity here to make this course really fun and memorable. Not many mini-golf courses are located on a marina, so even if there were more boat/ocean/anchor/seashell-type decorations around the course (even if management didn't want to change the layout of the course), I think it would feel more enjoyable.

And to top it off, they charged me for going 15 minutes over the hour, even though that time was lost to their own setup issues and poor management. As a Little League coach who planned to bring families here, I can say confidently: we won't be back, and I can no longer recommend this place for team or family outings. It simply doesn't deserve our business anymore
