When you're way out in the middle of nowhere, Oregon (or possibly heading out to Fern Ridge for…read moresome camping or day-use fun), you may just find yourself in need of beer, ice, snacks, or various sundries. If so, Hilltop Market could have the answer to your burning desires. This little independent market, hidden behind a thick patina of beer banners and neon signs, offers up a surprisingly robust beer and beverage selection. With a ton of great local 22oz bombers, high-end cans including 21st Amendment and Caldera, and the usual macro light beers (giant Coronas, anyone?), there's something for every hops-consuming palate. Hilltop also rolls out a deep collection of N/A bevs from Vitamin Water to Mexican Coke and all sorts of interesting energy drinks too. Frankly, I was surprised to find such an insane beer collection so deep in BFE. Chips? Fuggedaboudit. These guys stock every flavor of Pringles (or at least 4 or 5 flavors) as well as a bunch o' random munchies. Everything you'll need to keep you snackified on a hot day down at Richardson or out on your Yacht in Fern Ridge. As for the rest of it, the selection is well above your average Dari Mart or Plaid Pantry but not a full grocery. It's still a convenience store that's simply well stocked. And local. And legit.

Parking is a little janky if you're not used to the area, but this grocery store is otherwise a hidden gem! It might be run of the mill for locals; I'm not sure if this is a large chain that's all over the place or if it's less common, but the produce, meat, and cheese departments blew me away. I just want to rave a bit about this particular section of the store - most everything else was similar to what your expect. I've never seen such a large selection of items in a grocery store deli before... it was honestly slightly overwhelming to pick just a few items to try. There are individually wrapped chunks of tons of different types of cheeses, dried meats and prepackaged ones, accoutrements like breadsticks, olives, mini jelly and jam jars, and more. It was amazing. The bakery case was a whole other story... I have the biggest sweet tooth and can't get enough of baked goods, and their displays were absolutely gorgeous. I unfortunately didn't purchase anything from this section, but I can only imagine it's delicious lol. Checking out was easy as it usually is when grocery shopping and the lady that helped me out was friendly, so I really had absolutely nothing to complain about during my extremely brief visit to this super cool store.

What can I say.....? It doesn't offer anything you can't find at just about any other little store…read more My review isn't so much about how good the hot foods, cold beer, gas, or night crawlers are. My review is based upon many stops to get chocolate milk (always friendly staff) and one stop in particular.... wherein I had accidentally left my shiny new iphone on the counter while paying for my merchandise, and leaving the building entirely. I was on my way to Reedsport when I stopped here for some snacks. I was joking around with the exceedingly cute attendant about the hot case items that I'd need to have, when I'd apparently placed my phone on the counter and forgotten it. I left the building and got halfway to the coast before realizing I must've left my device at that store. Since the store was closed by the time I'd returned, and I couldn't be certain I'd left my phone there, I returned to the area (hadn't activated "find my phone" at this time) and searched either side of the road, by foot, for at least a mile in each direction from this store--because I've left this device on my hood a time or two. After a long night of searching the grass & ditches, I finally got ahold of the store the next business day. The woman who answered hadn't heard anything about a found iphone. I was totally bummed. There went my newly purchased device, which was my contract upgrade. And thus... purchased at quite a large bit under retail cost. The replacement would've been $600, plus a new otterbox defender case, that I wasn't ready to spend. And since I had no land-line or backup phone, I was in a pickle. As I racked my brain over the next several hours, trying to replay the events leading up to the last time I could confidently recall having the device, I'd received a visit from my buddy... who's number I'd left with the store. This time it was a different employee--the one I'd flirted with the day I lost my phone. She said that she had been holding the device in her purse, rather than placing it in the lost & found... recognizing it for the expensive devices that they are. She mentioned noticing it atop some papers above the register some time after I'd left and immediately before her next customer (who'd just walked in and straight to the coolers) slid a nearby magazine over the top of it as he put his merchandise on the counter. She sensed there was some bullship happening and called the man out. He tried to claim it as his, but she knew better and asked him to present the code that unlocked the screen. Obviously he could not, and she tucked it away and awaited my return. There's nothing saying this woman had to take the steps that she did. She could've just as easily avoided confrontation with the man who intended to steal my phone. She could've simply placed it in the lost & found and called it good. But she went above and beyond on every front! I think that shows some outstanding character. I was truly impressed by her actions. I offered to buy her dinner, but she declined. I left her some money instead, along with several "thanks". A good person works here. Maybe several. I'm happy to support a business that pays this persons wages.
