Times have changed, though, and now I live only a few blocks away from the market and am quite impressed with it. To be perfectly transparent, I only go in when I'm looking to get my drink on at a budget-friendly rate. I pick up a 4-pack of Mickey's or Steel Reserve and maybe tack on a Mike's Hard (I know, but it's 9% and tastes good) or a craft IPA, and/or a pack of chips if I'm hungry, but it's really up to the conscientious consumer to know what's his or her poison of choice. The alcohol selection is absolutely unrivaled. Any kind of fancy microbrew that's desired is available, and there's multiple doors leading to the malt liquor - all brands, in cans or bottles, at reasonable prices. There's also a wall of wine. I love this place. No other store has such a comprehensive selection. Clearly they know their audience. Can't comment on the other wares, though there seems to be a solid array of standard mini-mart fare. The clerks are always friendly, if distant, and yes, they check ID. The only complaint I have is about the hours - I believe the store closes at or by midnight. This requires some planning. That aside, I adore this place.
***EDIT: Beware of the price you're given by the cashier! More than a few times, I've noticed that I am rung up for a higher amount than I should be. For example, I get a bottle of wine that should be $4.99 and it's rung up as $5.99 or $5.35. I point it out and the cashier (either the man or the woman) tells me "I know," and doesn't try to make me pay the extra. But, I wonder, have there been other times that I've been overcharged, even a small amount, and paid it without knowing? Because it's happened with multiple cashiers on multiple occasions, it almost seems purposeful, like they're seeing if they can get away with it. Regardless, I advise you to be very conscious of how much $ you're asked for!
