I usually don't have time to write reviews but this place was SO good, I realized it's a shame if more people don't know about it. Darbar had absolutely hands down the most delicious kabob koobideh and polo (rice) I have ever tasted. I'm also picky about my koobideh and this was the absolute BEST. I wish we lived in Toronto so we didn't have to wait until another trip to go back! PROS: The kabob had the perfect amount of flavor and was not too dry and not too greasy. The rice also was made to perfection, again fluffy and buttery tasting without being greasy or heavy. Both were mouth-wateringly delicious! In addition to the main entree, everything else, including the side vegetables were all incredibly fresh and tasty. The portion size was huge. At first I thought this place is expensive but then I realized that the size of each "seekh" (skewer) was almost double other places. My kids loved that it came with bread (surprisingly other Persian restaurants seem to skimp on that or charge extra). I loved the "sabzi khordan" (greens) that came with the bread. Even the cheese and walnuts were tastier that what I have at home! The service was excellent. A lovely young women named Pegah served us and couldn't have been any nicer. She wasn't fake nice but actually genuinely nice. I loved the outdoor seating. It was a little loud but they had nice Persian music playing which added to the atmosphere. The tea was delicious and served nicely. I'm surprised other Persian places have the nerve to offer not fresh tea or tea bag tea. This was definitely the real deal. Most people who eat Persian food drink their tea after but I actually love it with my meal. I did not like the spice they added to the tea but the nice server replaced it with regular Persian tea without the spices. CONS: If you're super sensitive to spices you may not enjoy eating inside as the aroma is strong. Most people may not notice or even care (I don't think the other members of my family even noticed) but I had to sit outside. If we go back to Toronto in the winter when outside seating is not an option, I may just do take-out. The same spice that made the inside smell so strong was also what they put in the tea. I wish I knew what it was...perhaps cinnamon or something similar? Overall, I will be dreaming about this place until our next trip back. We went there with friends. We invited our non-persians to this establishment. The food quality was OK compared to the prices charged. Nothing extraveganza. The worst part was when asked for water, they did not offer us tap water as they claim their tap water is not drinkable. And they charged us $5 per bottle of water. One would imagined that a restaurant, if doen't have drinkable water won't charge for bottled water, or at least let the patrons know in advance how much a bottled water is. We arrived at our reservation time and were seated immediately. The ambiance is nice. Not much of a Persian vibe but generally good. The service was amazing. The waitresses were nice and timely and attentive. We ordered Sultani ( barg plus koobifeh on rice), lamb shank, chicken kabob. For appetizers we had salad Shirazi, Zeitoon Parvardeh, and kashk o bademjaan. For dessert, we had tea ( came in big cups. Thank you) and baqlava. All were good. The sultani kabob could be better. My first experience with this restaurant was not favourable. I had dinner with a friend here on January 21, 2026. The kebobs were too salty, which was probably a cover for the stale meat. I could not sleep well at night and had food poisoning the following day. My friend had also experienced similar symptoms. This is not what you expect when you spend $300 on a dinner for two with no alcoholic drinks. I will report this to the Toronto Public Health. I do not recommend this restaurant. read more

Long story short: Expensive, but so so good and fresh! Long story long: We got the Sultani Kebab combo (comes with a veal kebab and ground beef kebab, saffron rice and grilled tomatoes - this was a decent portion and good quality meat, so the price made sense) and Maust Khiar dip (a delicious yogurt/mint/cucumber mix, though a little small for the price) with extra lavash bread. It was perfect to share between 2 people. I can imagine the veal and oh, there it is. My mouth is watering now. Highly recommend to make your pockets hurt, but soothe the soul. read more

The best Persian Food in Toronto. It totally worths the two hour drive from where we live!!! Staff were super nice and welcoming. Upon entry, they'd offer to take your coat to put it in a coat closet which is so thoughtful in this climate. Food, appetizers, ambient and service is beyond our expectation. We ordered kababs and stew and I still can't decide which one is my favorite. Yogurt was so tasty, eggplant appetizer was Smokey and yummy! Kababs were cooked to perfection, they are not chewy at all, very soft and buttery! Everything was just OMG! We had a reservation and we arrived early so not wait time at all. Server was nice but has trouble explaining the dishes to us in English. We managed to order the right food at the end. Most of the servers are Persians I think. We don't like basmati rice so we asked if we can change to something else, they don't have much side dishes to choose so we order 2 yogurt dish instead. Table set up is very nice. Good atmosphere. Shishlik (lamb chop) : very very good! But salty. The flavour is strong and I love the grill. We order medium and came perfectly medium. Sultani kebab (A Skewer of ground beef, & A Skewer of Tenderloin Veal Fille): the ground beef is fine, they have onion in it. The barg tenderloin is super good! Taste like filet mignon, so soft and I ordered medium rare, came as medium which is acceptable for me. This dish is also very salty.. Doogh: the server recommend this drink to us, I like the texture of the yogurt but surprising it's not sweet, it's salty. I think it's too much salt, can't drink it all, I only had 1/3 cup and that's it, too salty to drink Overall meat is very very good, just that everything is quite salty and it's hard for me to finish the whole dish. I can't eat because how salty they are. They don't offer water when we sit down and we had to ask for water. The servers always forget things (we had to ask 3 times for a glass of water, 2 times of getting take out containers, 2 times to get a plastic bag for the take out.....) It could be better. Many people have recommended Darbar for me, claiming to be one of the best persian restaurants in the city! Well, I'd say they were extremely close to being true! Darbar is a nice high-end persian restaurant, service is great and fast, full bar, nice ambiance and pretty inviting atmosphere. The food is wonderful, close to being the best i've tried. We got the mixed platter for appetizers and the Kabab Soltani. Two cons about this place, 1) parking is very tough being right on Avenue rd, we found a spot behind the building through a small alley, however, you'd have to walk around all the way to the main door as they do not have a back entrance. It's not too convenient when it's cold and snowing out! 2) it's too pricy for an authentic restaurant and the type of cuisine in my opinion. A soltani kabab usually sells around $23-$25 elsewhere, while it's priced at $42 here. The appetizer platter is $50+ for four apps, Overall, the taste is certainly there, but so as many other persian restaurants in the area, which charge way less. Had some expectations having a lot of love for persian food but wow, worst persian food and restaurant experience. Was greeted by the manager who spoke poor english, ordered the "Saffron Wings" for app, "Chenjeh Kebab" for main with a glass of wine. After trying and not being impressed by the wings, we found it was Raw!!! Dripping in blood on the plate, my friend actually started eating a bloody wing before we noticed! After bringing it to the hosts attention, he took the wings and said "will talk to the kitchen and get back to us". He never came back! lol after our main arrived, we flagged him down to ask what happened, he barely spoke english saying they will credit and be offering complimentary items.. The main looked decent and we acknowledged and proceeded to eat, while thinking, wow raw chicken can be fatal. We thoroughly inspected our plates and decided to keep going. Food was basic, 1 kebab and a large plate of rice...Not to mention the 1 ounce of wine for the glass I ordered, smallest house glass for $20 Ive ever seen! Manager then returned to clear the plates and said they will bring us desert on the house if we'd like tea as well, we declined anything else and said we'd just try whatever they bring. Desert look appealing but after trying, it was bitter with a play-dough texture. we did not eat it. When asking for the bill he immediately brought us the machine ready to press tip% and tap to pay. I assumed it was all credited and arranged as he explained so I tapped and paid the $160.46 bill. On the way out I grabbed a copy of bill that he left on table after paying and put it in my back pocket. Once we drove off we started discussing, $160 for 2 mains and wine is expensive, so we pulled out the receipt to see the breakdown only to read that he charged us the full $30 for the 8pcs wings that we returned due to raw chicken!!! Couldn't believe it! Lets just hope now neither of us get food poisoning, aka Salmonella! UNBELIEVABLE for a "up class" resturant or so they claim. Reason for Visit: Recommended by a coworker's friend to give this a try. Menu: I personally never had high end Persian food so not sure what to expect. First thing I noticed was things sure get pricy. A dish here is ~$30-40 which was bit surprising to me as I had always had the more take out casual Persian food before. Anyhow, I tried their chicken breast dinner. It came with A LOT of chicken pieces which was great. The rice was so fluffy and soft. Lots of food. Very filling. Chicken was tender and not dry. Service: Impressive, waitress was very attentive and came often to refill our water. Atmosphere: Very nicely renovated. Chairs are so comfy. I usually get food from darbar and it never disappointed until last night I got kebab Torsh and a gheimeh bademjan. Their gheimeh was so little stew with 2 huge eggplant and 3 pieces of veal in it. Their Torsh was good because I waited another 20 minutes for them to cook it Medium Rare again. Taste was okay and I didn't feel anything out of ordinary until I woke up midnight realizing I have to vomit, which I did. We went there with a large group of 8 people and they sat us pretty quickly (it was a Monday to be fair). We got tahdig, mast musier, kashke bademjoon, kabab torsh, barg, and mahicheh. They were all extra amazing and the service was outstanding. They have one of the best torsh kababs in Northen america and I liked it extra as I like them on the sour side. I came here with my friend on a Sunday afternoon and it was packed! The food was delicious but I think our server had a language barrier issue. My friend ordered a drink and he brought her a totally different drink. There was also some confusion about the type of water we wanted. Other than that the grilled vegetables were delicious. It did have some grilled green chilies on it which we were incredibly spicy. So if you're not accustomed to spice stay away from those. So they do have vegetarian and vegan options. The rice was tasty and long grain. They recommend you add some butter to it when you eat it, so I tried it like that and it was actually good! Buttery and ricey at the same time. Which is at: 2015 Avenue Rd, North York Their Welcoming service for 2 families was ok as they picked immediately high chairs for the little ones. We had vegetable soup was nice and tasty enough for 2. Skewers size was good . We had kupaidah, chicken, Sultani and especial DarBar skewers. All were amazingly tasted very good and grilled in very highly professional way. Plates comes with nice basmati rice with saffron, grilled tomatoes and grilled jalapeños. chicken and pomegranate stew not really recommended! At checkout no one asked to try their dessert menu or to come again as fine restaurant expected good bye greeting. Which make their price more inconvenient. We were looking forward to eating at Darbar but found the music too loud. We were the only ones who found it uncomfortable and asked a few times to turn it down. I thought paying $50.00 to start for a main plate should justify trying to make first-timers happy. We are not Persian and finding that we were getting the side-eye and then having the waitress reply, "is that all you're having;" I weigh 125 pounds, so I'm not a big eater anyway. I guess she expected us to order a lot of food. It was just two of us and there were only 2 tables for two people. The rest of the tables were for large groups. So we left. Didn't wait for the food to come to the table. It seemed that we had to take it their way. The music was going to stay loud despite our wishes and since we had not ordered a lot of food much to the waitress's dismay, we thought we would not be missed considering the side-eye we got when we entered. As someone else mentioned, there are far better alternatives in the area without having to drop over hundred dollars for 2 so-so dishes (2 chicken kababs with 1 white and 1 green rice), an appetizer (shallot yogurt), a green salad and two teas. I hate to give such a low rating to fellow Persian restaurant, but my last visit was a total disappointment! Last weekend, my parents and I had a random craving for Persian kabob, and the closest place to us that was open at the time (it was near 8 o'clock pm), was Darbar. I checked out the reviews on Yelp, and was so pleased to see such high ratings. I gave the OK on the restaurant, put the directions on my GPS, and off we were to feast on some yummy Persian food! We entered the beautifully decorated, and dim-litted restaurant, and were made to wait for about 20 mins. No problem! I'd gladly wait an extra 20 mins for some good Persian kabob, but my parents and I definately regretted the wait after the dinner. We were seated at a table near the back of the restaurant, and our kind waiter named Dana greeted us with the menus, and lit the candles on our tables. Such a romantic atmosphere! We looked at our menus, and decided on getting an appetizer to share, which was the Ghormeh Sabzi on Tadig (herb stew with chunks of stew meat and red kidney beans, over crispy bread and rice from the bottom of the pot). This was such an odd concept for us, because Ghormeh Sabzi is typically served over rice, and Tadig is accompanied on the side as a well-loved treat. So, definately had to try it out. We also placed our orders for our entrees at the same time. I had requested the Vaziri kabob dish, which consists of a skewer of Jooje kabob (chicken kabob), and a skewer of Koobide kabob (ground meat kabob), with rice. I had initially asked if I could swap the rice for salad, as I'm trying to cut down on carbs, but that could not be done for some reason. So, I settled for the delicious saffron rice. My parents both ordered the Soltani dish, which included a skewer of Koobide kabob, and a skewer of Barg kabob (steak kabob). We had also ordered a pitcher of Doogh which is a herbed yoghurt drink. During our long wait, we slowly filled ourselves up with the provided bread, feta cheese, walnuts, parsley, and raddishes (a typical Persian spread) which was arranged on the table. Our doogh and appetizer finally arrived, along with the entree meals. The appetizer was not brought to us before the entree dishes, which was unnerving! The timing is very important for customers who place orders for appetizers, because they expect to munch on them BEFORE recieving their main entrees. Well, c'est la vie, and everyone makes mistakes! So we decided to try out some of the appetizer before digging into our main dishes. It was as you expect ghorme sabzi to look like over tadig, but boy oh boy was it delicious! The ghorme sabzi was full of flavour, the meat was so tender and juicy, and the tadig was crispy and buttery in flavour. If I could rate the appetizer alone, it would receive a 10/10 from me! But unfortunately, you judge a Persian kabob restaurant for its kabobs, not the appetizer. We set the appetizer aside, exchanged different pieces of kabobs, and dug into our kabobs. The first thing I noticed from the kabobs were that they were too salty! All of them had a salt over-load, and it was even noticeable to my mom, who is a salt-fiend! The koobide kabob lacked in overall flavour, while the jooje kabob looked like it had a great saffron marinade on it by the rich colour, but was just OK in taste. Such a let-down! Although, the barg was overly salty as well, it had a really faint but pleasant, onion taste to it. The buttery saffron rice was also nice, and cooked to perfection. I commend the chef for their good rice-cooking skills! The saltiness of the food made us very thirsty, so we poured doogh for eachother to drink. The doogh was essentially just yoghurt with herbs. There was a lack of carbonated water/water in the yoghurt to make it more liquidy in texture, like a typical doogh drink. So, I requested for some water. Dana had brought out a plastic bottle of water, poured some in separate cups, and left the rest of the small bottle on the table. It was unusual to witness that, but we immediately poured the water into our other cups. The portions were big, but the taste was lacking. At the end of the meal, we got charged over $200(including the water), for a super long wait, and some really salty kabobs. I wouldn't recommend this place to non-rich people, who don't enjoy salty foods. The food is definitely good. Actually if you're going for Persian food, I'd say everything is good here except for the price. The service, the atmosphere, the decoration and the cool Deep House fusion type music are all great and probably better than all the other Persian restaurants in the GTA. BUT, Darbar is easily 50-60% more expensive than all of them too. Maybe that's what you have to pay to eat at a classy Persian restaurant with good service and trendy atmosphere. Other perisan restaurants in the GTA definitely lack in that department if not in the food quality. My usual is always the koobideh. The Koobideh in a Persian restaurant is like the brisket at a southern style bbq joint. If a place can do that well you can be sure everything else on the menu is good. Darbar's koobideh definitely didn't disappoint. Their Barg was also excellent, very tender and juicy. I'm not sure if we would be back though, simply because we're blessed to live in Toronto with so many Iranian places to choose from and we're not used to pay this much for Persian food and koobideh. My husband and I treated a small group of family here for a special event and spent well over $400 for dinner. My 19 month old daughter was also present. First - just for any parents of young children planning to dine here: It's incorrect to say this is a family-friendly restaurant or 'good for kids' when basic amenities like a change table are not available. Having high chairs isn't enough to warrant that claim. I was forced to change my daughter in our car across the street in 0 degree weather. The ambiance is ok, I guess, for a Persian restaurant attempting to stand out from other take-out ethnic restaurants in the GTA. Our waitress was polite and well-informed, although she was only really attentive when she was trying to get us to buy the overly-expensive group platters and then seemed to disappear when I was trying to figure out why we had all ordered promptly yet waited over 45 minutes for our meals. It was busy, granted, so we didn't say anything, but there were people (with five to six people in their parties as well) that came after us, were seated, and got their appetizers AND entrees before us. The food was not bad, as far as Persian food goes, I guess. Just dump a lot of butter on the rice and kebabs and you're good to go. I was surprised a bit by the things we got charged for - for example, flat water that was part of the table. What high-end restaurant charges customers for flat water? It was misleading and I feel like for a place where we were clearly going to spend so much money, it makes it seem sort of cheap and off-putting. From my seat at my table, I also noticed a tupperware container sitting on a shelf near the kitchen entrance filled with what looked like boiled hot dogs the entire night. Totally random - but why was there a container full of hot dogs out there the whole time? LOL It just confused me. Staff continuously went back and forth from the kitchen and the bar area with more Dollar Store tupperware filled with sliced salad ingredients...again, just looks off and such a stark contrast against the classy feel they are clearly aiming for. I think this is one of those unjustifiably expensive ethnic restaurants that is not worth the hype. Decor is very nice here. Very beautiful. Food is expensive and taste like other Persian places I know. Would probably go to a least expensive place next time I am craving Persian food. However, this place is good for a celebration because it's beautiful. Pita is thin and I prefer the thick ones. Meat isn't bad. Flavourful. I didn't like the eggplant we ordered, but this is due to the dish itself and not how it was made. read more
