Im visiting from the US and I'm a city guy. The haircut I received was up to any cut I've had at "uptown" places and the prices are very reasonable. New Saville Row is one of the oldest barbershops in Bath, having been around for over 50 years according to the owners. Most of the staff have also been around for decades, which, in these changing times, signals there must be some staying power in the business. They are conveniently located near Bath Abbey, and having recently moved into the area as a student I recently tried them out after having had terrible experiences at two other barbershops in Bath. I have extremely weird hair that appears to have a mind of its own, and I need to do some explaining to the barbers before they begin. Most are just not interested and decide to hack away, only for me to be in worse shape than I was before within two weeks. At Saville Row, I found the expert barbers were very friendly and patient- they explained why my hair should be tackled in a certain way and would not let up until I was pleased. A shampoo cut cost me 19 pounds, although there are various options. So it is not the cheapest in town, but I have had bad experiences in Bath with anyone charging under about 15. Very friendly and knowledgeable about general affairs too - felt extremely comfortable and will return!

A waiting room, for starters, with a fine selection of men's magazines and comfortable seats. A few good chairs line the walls with big clean mirrors to catch up on a spot of vanity. The brushes and scissors are kept in pots of steriliser that smell of Top Gear and London Pride. Then the memories flow back. The red and white spiral column out front, or the conversation with the gentleman - so much more than the trivia spilled in most modern hairdressers. And the price? The price is just right - about a tenner. What more could you want?
