Before I go on I should warn that it does charge Clifton (high) prices. Getting my head shaved (I imagine the cheapest thing they offer) cost eight quid, which is a little bit extortionate, but there you go. Whilst I think it must be pretty hard to justify pricing a once of with an electric razor that high, they do make an effort to improve on the usual barber shop experience. For example, I once got a cut throat shave that involved a shot of whisky for the sting afterwards. The staff are friendly without being annoying, and didn't mind when I took a call halfway through a hair cut. The wood fixtures and general ambience mean it doesn't feel too relaxed. This is a gentlemen's barber shop rather than anything trendy.

I enjoy the cool, clean cut vibes and the therapeutic feel of someone who is essentially grooming me. The experience at Bristol Barber Co is along the same vein and quite enjoyable. Being at the heart of Clifton Village and with another sterling offering in the barber shop world just down the road, this one is forced to keep firmly in line. Comfortable leather seats (both whilst you wait and during the trim), sterilised kit and a close shave that Shaun the Sheep would be proud of - this barber is definitely a winner.

They even shut off the road a couple of years ago for a mini festival to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the shop! It was fun. There's always a bit of a buzz about the place, especially on Saturday mornings. Franco and the lads that work there are a laugh and there's generally a conversation going on through the barbers around the latest albums, movies and prem results. On the radio it's either 6 music or a live big premiership match. It's a good crack. The hair cuts are generally pretty good, I have been more pleased on certain visits than others though. There's no appointments required and you just turn up and wait. While it's always a laugh in their it can take quite some time to get a chop at its busiest. I've waited over 2 hours on a Saturday morning before which can be a bit much with a hang over! If you're looking for a quieter time try turning up just after opening on a week day. Price wise it's not to bad at £17, not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. It's worth noting that you can get a loyalty card where you get a free cut after 8 visits. When ever I've been their it's clear that a lot of the customers have been back time after time, so they must be doing something right! its a great little barbers with good conversation and can be a bit of a laugh. Defo worth a go.

The first baber shop where I've heard that, and something I reckon a few others should adopt. Franco's got two young assistants who banter about are nice and friendly. It's relaxed in here and they'll have a quick chat as the push you through as they try and bring down the queue of guys that's always there. Five to ten quid seems to be the price range, not to bad really. My haircut was absolutely fine, but then I only got a number two and that's pretty difficult mess up. Don't worry too much about the opening times as they seem to just stay open until they've run out of customers. Also good because their choice of newspapers (Guardian and The Mirror) is much better than the usual garbage you get at barber shops, but I suppose this view does depend on your politics rather what you think of their haircuts.

He has great attention to detail, urgency, while not feeling rushed. As a hairdresser myself I can say this is the quality of service and the kind of result that you hope for when you walk into a salon. He gave a great massage which is not always part of the service but it's definately a nice luxury when someone takes the time. On top of that the service was only £15 my only criticism is that there wasn't an option to tip on the eftpos machine. The salon it's self is nice, intimate and welcoming, the staff were all friendly and there was a very cute puppy milling about. Would 100% reccomend the salon and Alex!

Shambarber will give you a top notch trim or full re-style with great banter and awesome music; all in their tiny but ultra trendy barber shop. I've been getting my hair cut here for a while now, as have around 4 or 5 of my mates, and I've never heard anything but massive praise. It's one of those barbers where you don't sit reading a Nuts magazine while you wait for a 5 minutes trim-and-leave! You sit listening to good music and they get you involved in whatever they're chatting about. They take their time to ask what you want and continue to ask if everything is alright as they cut. The graffiti style decor fits perfectly with its Stokes Croft location and you'll feel like you know the guys by the time you leave. Born out of the infamous Shambala festival, Shambarber brings a festival vibe to Stokes Croft in the way of mens and women's hair styling. The guys are involved in a number of club nights in and around bristol as well as Love Saves the Day festival and obviously, Shambala. They also hold invite only parties in the shop called 'The Barber Shop' that are absolutely amazing. Global DJ's playing to a crowd of 60. Festivals and music is their fun side - haircuts and beard trimming is their serious side; and they're blooming good at both!

The experience of supercuts has been grating me for some time, so I feel I have to share the…read moreexperience I had for everyone sake. I booked online for a short cut, which states can includes] clipper cut and scissor cuts. When I turned up on time for my booking, I was told no I can't do it. I replied, "Okay just a scissor cut without the clippers will be fine". (Assuming the lady wasn't confident with clippers) I got a no on that one. "Okay honestly I'd be happy with just a trim on the fringe". - A further firm no I'm not comfortable doing that. To make things worse, there were two hairdressers in and no customers. Now a few years prior this I was turned down in the same way, at the time a younger member of staff looked annoyed with the two ladies on (same ladies as this time) and proceeded cut my hair perfectly. As a member of the LGBTQ community I took myself to a barber shop downstairs which I don't like doing. Hence supercuts a unisex salon seemed a good go to. The barber here simply stated to me, they are mother and daughter and religious. I've had a lot of uncomfortable haircuts in my life but have never been refused service because of gender and the hair cut I was asking for. If you are reading this and relating, I would recommend Shotguns near the bear pit where you gender and cut you want won't be discriminated. Also, similar prices and hairdressers/barbers are skilled to handle any cut. Not that my basic 3 on the side and trim on the fringe was too challenging. But for supercuts in Galleries Bristol, it would seem so.

Supercuts is one of those places that has a range of stylists who are of different levels of experience, and you never really know who will be free at the time you want to get a cut. I had an okay experience with this place, but I only went in for a trim - I wouldn't trust them if I wanted a whole new style, I think I'd rather pay well for that! The one bonus about this place is the cheap prices. They are very popular with students and anyone on a budget, because they charge very affordable prices - unlike many other salons that charge you an arm and a leg for a hair cut. It really does cater for anyone on a budget who isn't overly hair conscious - and they offer a walk in service so generally you don't even need an appointment. On the downside though, this Bristol branch doesn't offer any colouring services - but then again, I'm not sure I'd trust them with bleaching my hair! I personally would only recommend this salon to men, because its quick, cheap and easy, and generally men's hair cuts are more reliable and less of a risk! For the girls out there though, I'd probably say it's worth popping in for a trim - but maybe find somewhere else if you want a new style!
