They even shut off the road a couple of years ago for a mini festival to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the shop! It was fun. There's always a bit of a buzz about the place, especially on Saturday mornings. Franco and the lads that work there are a laugh and there's generally a conversation going on through the barbers around the latest albums, movies and prem results. On the radio it's either 6 music or a live big premiership match. It's a good crack. The hair cuts are generally pretty good, I have been more pleased on certain visits than others though. There's no appointments required and you just turn up and wait. While it's always a laugh in their it can take quite some time to get a chop at its busiest. I've waited over 2 hours on a Saturday morning before which can be a bit much with a hang over! If you're looking for a quieter time try turning up just after opening on a week day. Price wise it's not to bad at £17, not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. It's worth noting that you can get a loyalty card where you get a free cut after 8 visits. When ever I've been their it's clear that a lot of the customers have been back time after time, so they must be doing something right! its a great little barbers with good conversation and can be a bit of a laugh. Defo worth a go.

The first baber shop where I've heard that, and something I reckon a few others should adopt. Franco's got two young assistants who banter about are nice and friendly. It's relaxed in here and they'll have a quick chat as the push you through as they try and bring down the queue of guys that's always there. Five to ten quid seems to be the price range, not to bad really. My haircut was absolutely fine, but then I only got a number two and that's pretty difficult mess up. Don't worry too much about the opening times as they seem to just stay open until they've run out of customers. Also good because their choice of newspapers (Guardian and The Mirror) is much better than the usual garbage you get at barber shops, but I suppose this view does depend on your politics rather what you think of their haircuts.

Aldo is no spring chicken, but that just means he's experienced and his hands don't shake nearly as much as you'd think (I'm kidding they're steady as a rock). He will give you the best cut-throat shave in Bristol and the conversation isn't too bad either, so pop in for your Monday morning shave and get your short back and sides; he will always fit you in. He is in fact a legend of those parts. You think he'll be more like Luca the barber from The Armando Iannucci Shows, and he might ask you something like, 'why they do all those experiments on animals...very cruel yes?....maybe they should use puppets from children's shows, like clangers....let's face it, the clangers, they'd remove one of our testicles if they had to...etc.' But don't worry he won't.

The brushes and scissors are kept in pots of steriliser that smell of Top Gear and London Pride. Then the memories flow back. The red and white spiral column out front, or the conversation with the gentleman - so much more than the trivia spilled in most modern hairdressers. And the price? The price is just right - about a tenner. What more could you want?

This is one of the more traditional barber shops in the area, running an appointment only scheme in this one man show. The benefits of this are no waiting around and a friendlier, more personal cut. There's a good choice of men's magazines if you have to wait at all although this is pretty rare. Most trims cost between five and ten pounds with exceptions only for bleaching and high lights. This is also a really good place to pick up some high quality hair products that you may have difficulty finding on the high street such as Dax Wax and Fudge.

As a hairdresser myself I can say this is the quality of service and the kind of result that you hope for when you walk into a salon. He gave a great massage which is not always part of the service but it's definately a nice luxury when someone takes the time. On top of that the service was only £15 my only criticism is that there wasn't an option to tip on the eftpos machine. The salon it's self is nice, intimate and welcoming, the staff were all friendly and there was a very cute puppy milling about. Would 100% reccomend the salon and Alex!

Born out of the infamous Shambala festival, Shambarber brings a festival vibe to Stokes Croft in the way of mens and women's hair styling. The guys are involved in a number of club nights in and around bristol as well as Love Saves the Day festival and obviously, Shambala. You may like it washed, but you can do that at home (we all know the only reason you get your hair washed is because the head massage feels nice), you might want a Flock of Seagulls but all any man really needs is a French Crop. Obviously I'm joking and I'm very sure they are more than capable of cutting your hair however you would like it, I just love the completely honest, non-pretentious experience this barbers offers. I think they could probably cut 12 peoples hair an hour. It's quick and great value. I was walking past, poked my head through the door and even though they were very busy, they were more than happy to see me, after I perused the selection of magazines (of course) and watched some sky news.
