The red and white spiral column out front, or the conversation with the gentleman - so much more than the trivia spilled in most modern hairdressers. And the price? The price is just right - about a tenner. What more could you want?

I'd finished work for the year on Christmas Eve and had just purchased my last Christmas present in Cabot Circus readying to get home and let the festivities begin. But first I needed a haircut! I'd decided that if there was a good place in Cabot Circus it would be a keeper, as would be convenient to get to from my work in Temple Quay and I regularly visit Cabot any way. I knew there was a place I'd walked passed a number of times called Jacks on Penn Street, the road that divides Broadmead and Quakers Fryer from the main under roof Cabot Circus area. I poked my head round the door to ask if they had any spaces free for a last minute Christmas cut and the reply I got was that I could get a chop, but how long it will take to get on the barbers chair was like asking how long a piece of string is. It was unsurprisingly busy considering the day it was, but I thought I'd take a chance that it wouldn't be hours. That's a good point actually, It's worth noting that you can't make appointments at Jacks, you just turn up. Judging by the chap's comments I thought I was in for a wait of at least an hour and a half, maybe a lot longer. However I was actually called over to the barbers chair after about 40 mins. Not bad at all considering. The wait was also made a lot easier as I was offered tea, coffee, a soft drink or... BEER. The Budweiser was tempting but I decided on a Stella. The barber Jed was a sound chap and we had a bit of laugh. He clearly took pride in his work and did a good haircut. This was again made more enjoyable by another Stella brought to me at the barbers chair. The haircut itself wasn't the cheapest by any means at £22.50 which is my only gripe. But the cut was good and they provided beer. I'll probably be returning. Oh one last thing - you can also have a game of FIFA on the provided Playstation while you wait!

He has great attention to detail, urgency, while not feeling rushed. As a hairdresser myself I can say this is the quality of service and the kind of result that you hope for when you walk into a salon. He gave a great massage which is not always part of the service but it's definately a nice luxury when someone takes the time. On top of that the service was only £15 my only criticism is that there wasn't an option to tip on the eftpos machine. The salon it's self is nice, intimate and welcoming, the staff were all friendly and there was a very cute puppy milling about. Would 100% reccomend the salon and Alex!

I've been getting my hair cut here for a while now, as have around 4 or 5 of my mates, and I've never heard anything but massive praise. It's one of those barbers where you don't sit reading a Nuts magazine while you wait for a 5 minutes trim-and-leave! You sit listening to good music and they get you involved in whatever they're chatting about. They take their time to ask what you want and continue to ask if everything is alright as they cut. The graffiti style decor fits perfectly with its Stokes Croft location and you'll feel like you know the guys by the time you leave. Born out of the infamous Shambala festival, Shambarber brings a festival vibe to Stokes Croft in the way of mens and women's hair styling. The guys are involved in a number of club nights in and around bristol as well as Love Saves the Day festival and obviously, Shambala. They also hold invite only parties in the shop called 'The Barber Shop' that are absolutely amazing. Global DJ's playing to a crowd of 60. Festivals and music is their fun side - haircuts and beard trimming is their serious side; and they're blooming good at both!

The experience of supercuts has been grating me for some time, so I feel I have to share the…read moreexperience I had for everyone sake. I booked online for a short cut, which states can includes] clipper cut and scissor cuts. When I turned up on time for my booking, I was told no I can't do it. I replied, "Okay just a scissor cut without the clippers will be fine". (Assuming the lady wasn't confident with clippers) I got a no on that one. "Okay honestly I'd be happy with just a trim on the fringe". - A further firm no I'm not comfortable doing that. To make things worse, there were two hairdressers in and no customers. Now a few years prior this I was turned down in the same way, at the time a younger member of staff looked annoyed with the two ladies on (same ladies as this time) and proceeded cut my hair perfectly. As a member of the LGBTQ community I took myself to a barber shop downstairs which I don't like doing. Hence supercuts a unisex salon seemed a good go to. The barber here simply stated to me, they are mother and daughter and religious. I've had a lot of uncomfortable haircuts in my life but have never been refused service because of gender and the hair cut I was asking for. If you are reading this and relating, I would recommend Shotguns near the bear pit where you gender and cut you want won't be discriminated. Also, similar prices and hairdressers/barbers are skilled to handle any cut. Not that my basic 3 on the side and trim on the fringe was too challenging. But for supercuts in Galleries Bristol, it would seem so.

Basically this place is a bit of a hit or miss - you might find yourself walking away with a happy…read morehair day, or equally you might find yourself crying in front of your mirror when you get home. Supercuts is one of those places that has a range of stylists who are of different levels of experience, and you never really know who will be free at the time you want to get a cut. I had an okay experience with this place, but I only went in for a trim - I wouldn't trust them if I wanted a whole new style, I think I'd rather pay well for that! The one bonus about this place is the cheap prices. They are very popular with students and anyone on a budget, because they charge very affordable prices - unlike many other salons that charge you an arm and a leg for a hair cut. It really does cater for anyone on a budget who isn't overly hair conscious - and they offer a walk in service so generally you don't even need an appointment. On the downside though, this Bristol branch doesn't offer any colouring services - but then again, I'm not sure I'd trust them with bleaching my hair! I personally would only recommend this salon to men, because its quick, cheap and easy, and generally men's hair cuts are more reliable and less of a risk! For the girls out there though, I'd probably say it's worth popping in for a trim - but maybe find somewhere else if you want a new style!

All the guys that work here are quiet young (20-35) cut you'll find bloke and boys of all ages getting their barnets trimmed. This isn't a trendy barbers, it is an old school, barbers with some really funny characters. The 3 lads that I've seen working their are always a great laugh and get the customers involved. There really isn't much to say about it, apart from great haircuts and great banter.

Back in the recent past when I still had just about enough hair to justify actually going to a…read morebarber's I always used to go to Kamuren's in St Nick's market. The two main reasons are service and price. Firstly, a haircut here only costs £7, which is pretty reasonable. Plus Kamuren is a really nice guy, he's always welcoming and remembers you, and has even said hello when I've seen him out and about. It's also a lively place, with a lot of his Turkish mates popping in for a drink and a chat (though they still keep working as they do this). One warning, it can get busy as it is popular, though it never seems to be more than a 20 minute wait. Also, even when I had hair, I didn't have much hair, so I never wanted anything particularly elaborate doing. Therefore, if you're the type who normally goes to Toni and Guy, I'm not sure whether or not they are capable of that sheer level of ponciness (they may well be, I just couldn't vouch for it).

I decided I had to take a plunge, step into the deep end, so after reading on the outside of RSR that I didn't need an apointment and could just walk right in I thought... Now or never! As soon as I walked in I was made to feel at home, they invited me to take a seat, asked if I wanted a coffee or tea (the coffee was pretty good) and i relaxed while I waited to be seen. When my time came, the stylist was brilliant, I think she could tell I was out of my depth and suggested a few things she thought would look good, then I said as best I could the sort of thing I would ideally like, and she set to work, and I have to say it was probably the best haircut i've ever head. To make the whole experience even better, when it came to paying upI began to get a little woried, what with all the coffee i'd drank, plasma TV i'd enjoyed and great hair cut i'd recieved, then came the price ... a mere £9! I couldn't belive it, I'd payed more for 'a trim' at the barbers! So for all you unure blokes out thier, give it a go!

RSR came up and it was the perfect fit for me - a 5 minute wait, 10 minutes in the chair, a friendly but not overly chatty female hairdresser and a haircut that everyone from my wife to female colleagues have said looks good.
