I came in with very clear expectations: long, blended layers and a soft brown balayage. I even provided reference photos. What I walked out with looked nothing like what I asked for. Instead of a natural brown balayage, my hair was taken to an almost platinum blonde shade that completely washed me out and severely damaged my hair in the process. The haircut was just as bad. The layers are uneven, choppy, and look hacked apart rather than professionally blended. The ends were aggressively thinned/texturized to the point that my once long, full, healthy hair now feels thin, stringy, and lifeless. It honestly looks and feels like it was cut with a machete instead of salon shears. I loved my hair before this appointment, and now I feel awful every time I look at it. What made the experience even worse was how the salon handled the situation afterward. When I reached out to express my concerns, instead of taking accountability or showing empathy, I was essentially called a liar. They refunded only the haircut portion, while refusing to refund the color service -- despite the fact that the color is what caused the most damage and is completely different from what I requested. Hair damage like this cannot be instantly fixed; it will take months, if not years, to grow out and recover. Paying $560 for this level of work is honestly shocking. At that price point, I expected professional skill, care, and at the very least respect when addressing a client's concerns. Mistakes can happen, but the lack of accountability, poor customer service, and careless results made this experience unacceptable. I have very fine hair but it does have a curl to it. I was looking for a cut that would help bring that out but also help make my hair look more full. I understood that some of the length needed to go but I wanted to hold onto as much of would could be saved as possible, which I tried to explain but fell on deaf ears. I walked into the small salon and checked in with June. This place is dirty even for a hair salon, the corners of the floors and ceilings look like they haven't been cleaned since the day this place opened. I explained what I wanted to Michelle length wise, she showed me where she'd recommend cutting which was a little below shoulder length, which I was fine with. She asked me my hair care routine then walked away in the middle of me explaining it without a "one second" or anything. Then she came back and started cutting it dry which was shorter than what she had showed me but it was too late. She also gave me angles on just one side of my face without asking me if I wanted them or how short around my face to go. In the middle of this, she starts yelling at Jun about not properly checking people in, insulting her intelligence. This went on for a while and it was extremely unprofessional and so uncomfortable. She passed me off to Jun to have my hair washed telling me she would check the cut after. She scrunched my hair dry after this (again yelling at Jun asking her if it was her first day working for not having a microfiber towel ready). She never checked the hair cut again. When I told her the other side of my hair looked scraggly (the one that she cut no angles on) she said that was just my hair. My hair cut is uneven in the front and length wise which she never bothered to check and SO much shorter than what we agreed to - even shorter when it's curled with products, which she never bothered to bring up since I came in with clean, dry hair as directed on her site. I cannot believe she charges $150 for this level of service. I would either avoid this place or go with Jun if you come here because she must really need the money to put up with Michelle's abuse like this. What a mess. Regarding the owner's response: She knows she's in the wrong and rather than take accountability (at the very LEAST, for the way she treated Jun during the hour I was there), she's had friends write reviews to try and push mine down. Michelle, if your honest to god definition of mentorship is asking Jun if it's her first day for not immediately having your towel ready at a moment's notice and telling her "something must be wrong with you" for not checking people out properly, insulting her over and over in circles until she finally meekly tells you yes, she gets it, then I feel sorry for any future employees/victims you take under your wing. There is literally no one like her-- an absolute perfectionist and the best esthetician I have ever been to. Even after moving to California and Miami, I always travel back to New York to see her because she is the best.
