I recently spent two weeks in Europe visiting 10 cities, eating out everyday, and I must say this was the best dinner I had during that two weeks!
I always loved food in Lyon from my previous visit, hence my expectation was high. When I arrived at downtown Lyon, I did some online search looking for dinner near by the train station. This one came up on my search and marked it on the map.
It was approximately 10 mins walk from the Lyon train station (may be less) and was fairly easy to find. I wanted to make reservation but I wasn't sure if they would speak English and I was too tired to go back to my hotel to ask them to call. So I decided to get there 5 mins before opening hour, hoping they have a table available.
Within a half hour of arrival, this place was totally packed, so I felt I just got lucky to be able to get a table without reservation.
They do not have English menu, only in French. I used my translator app on my phone to get some ideas about what they are.
A bottle of wine from the area was very good, nothing fancy but I am always pleased with wine from this region.
I started my dinner with a soup, veloute de topinambour et carpaccio de foie gras, eclats de noisettes. Basically artichoke soup with foie gras. It was so creamy and flavorful, I thought I would be just happy with this soup alone for dinner.
For my main meal, I ordered travers de cochon fermer (cuisson 72h), celeri, carotte et salsifis. This area is known for pork dish, and had to try especially when I saw cooking for 72 hours! Oh the meat was so juicy and tender, really loved the sauce served with pork. Perfectly presented plate was gone very quickly.
For desert, I had brioche pain perdu, banana caramelisees au rhum. Basically French toast with caramelized banana. I didn't know french toast as desert can be so good. It wasn't as sweet as I was afraid it might be. It was just right amount of sweetness and really loved that texture that melts in my mouse.
I highly recommend for dining here for dinner. read more
