I've never had hair service that felt like a warm hug. So here's my salon background: nowhere near this, I can tell you that. I've been going to the same little shop in Chinatown in the city since I was a broke college kid for ten years. Paying $30 plus tip just to get the job done, just for a semblance of put together hair. Well... I'm a grown up now and it's time for an upgrade, time for new things to try. And comparing Hair Saloon and my little reliable shop... the phrase I would use is you get what you pay for. The quality Brianna and Danielle exposed to me to is something I would never turn my back on now that I've had a taste of it. When I walked into the salon, which shares a little building with a nail salon next door, my nervous little self was greeted with warm smiles and welcomes. I was given a little tour of the cafe/bar side, and then the section where the actual magic begins. Seeing as how they've open during the height of COVID, they're still very infection control friendly! The chairs in the cutting/stying section are more than generously six feet apart, and the chairs by the washing station are separated by clear screens. 10/10 for cleanliness because you see these other businesses and since late 2021, you know hygiene has definitely been thrown out the window. You know you're dishing out a little more $ when there's massage chairs during the hair wash. In my head I was just wow'd because Chinatown could never lol. Brianna was great during the wash. One thing I have to commend them for is the communication step-by-step. She asked me my preferences in shampoo, and I usually opt for products that offer volume, so she introduced me to R&Co, which was pretty much *the* brand that was used on me throughout my appointment. I really appreciated how she explained the different types of shampoo they used and who would benefit from what. The shampoo, the hair serum, and hair spray I'm pretty sold on because I'm that person who's always looking for the next best thing when it comes to hair and face products. Now Danielle. You are the GOAT. Thank you for showing me what it's like to be well taken care of as a client. There is something in that customer service of yours that feels so warm and it's like, of course the business would be 5 stars on here! You're like the big sister of hair, telling me what works and what doesn't. I told you this during the service, but you are absolutely absolutely absolutely the master of your craft! :) Dear future customers, the way Danielle can utilize and manipulate round brushes? It's honest to God like being in the audience of a magic show lol Hair Saloon fulfilled everything I was looking for a new salon: trendy, modern, close to home, young and kind stylists who are willing to collaborate with you for a fresh take on your appearance, and I didn't ask for this but it's a welcome bullet point: drinks!!! :) Cannot wait to be back!

There's always something new to discover. While I was there planning to visit the Italian Art Gallery nearby, I came across Cold Spring Coffee House and saw that it had great reviews, so I figured it would be the perfect place to start my day. Getting there: If you're coming from NYC, the Metro-North is super convenient. The coffee house is an easy walk from the Cold Spring train station, which makes it a great stop when spending the day exploring the town. Inside, the coffee house isn't overly decorated, but it has a nice, relaxed atmosphere. I wasn't a huge fan of how close together some of the tables were, but it was quiet enough to sit. They also have a few tables out front if you'd rather enjoy your coffee while taking in the charming street. But the real showstopper here is the pastry selection! With such a beautiful display of pastries, who needs extra decorations? There were so many tempting options that it was hard to choose, but I ultimately went with the Goat Cheese & Honey Danish and paired it with a medium coffee. Overall, I'm glad I added this stop to my Cold Spring adventure. I always enjoy spending time here, strolling through the town, popping into the different shops, and finding little spots like this along the way. This bodega follows the normal bodega counter setup but boasts a little three-top dining counter inside the window, as well as a shaded picnic table outside. We got the tacos de chorizo y huevo con aguacate and two of the fresh juices--the sabato and the summer juice. We waited for the meal outside at the picnic table and dined there as well. After about 15 minutes, the order was ready. I went in to get the juices, and the kind gentleman working there brought out the tacos. The juice was delicious and was juiced then blended for the perfect velvety texture. It was super fresh, as evidenced by all the fruits and veggies washed and displayed in the deli case. The tacos are served with a piece of queso frito, a side of salsa verde, and a side of salsa roja. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the portion was generous. The salsas were very flavorful with great heat. I only wished the filling had a little more salt or a little more chorizo to give it the additional saltiness it needed. Overall, a good solid meal. Definitely will be back.

What a difference in design from the previous Brrzaar café in this same spot years ago. If it's an upbeat café you're after, this husband+wife team at LuDy (named after the couple's 2 children) are bringing their Melbourne coffee culture to quaint Irvington, NY. They partner with Proud Mary Coffee to bring coffee to the masses, Flour Power from Pelham, NY to offer scrumptious baked goods and Spirit Tea. Judging by the number of people I found sitting at the tables chitchatting with their friends/co-workers, etc during my Tuesday 11am visit, this is the place for a hangout over bites and beverages. But do also know, LuDy is loud. I'm not sure if people nowadays know common conversation 101 courtesy using a normal volume. Anyhow. Since their June '24 opening, LuDy's owner is setting himself apart in the community and is the epitome of a friendly neighborhood cafe. It's just as expensive as Dominique Ansel in NYC but without the amazing ingredients and overall quality. The staff seemed nice though, so it pains me to leave this review, but I seriously feel like I got jerked, so I must... Cappuccino - Very bitter, strong to the point of tasting harsh, not enough milk. Peach mousse - Small, fake/artificial tasting peach filling, very unappetizing. Pistachio mousse - One dimensional, heavy thick consistency, fake tasting cheap pistachio flavoring. Sleeping grizzly bear - This was the best one but still not worth anything near the price tag. Vanilla mousse tasted ok, passion fruit center was ok but still tasted rather off putting. The coffee and all desserts except the bear were thrown in the garbage after a few bites. It was just inedible. What a waste of $45.
