I needed an outdoor fan & I needed it fast. (My handyman is available just tomorrow.) The two big box stores had no fans I liked, so Dan's was a last resort. I had no idea this location has been open 18-19 years! Donna is the store manager. She stated that the company is in Oldsmar (so it's a LOCAL COMPANY), owner Dan is actually the son of the original owner (Dan Sr.), & Dad started in the fan business after working for an automobile company in Detroit. With Dan's, you have a choice of 5,000 plus fan combinations! YES, 5,000+ COMBINATIONS!!! Not all fan parts can be combined, but many can! I selected my fan base; the blade size, style, & color; a light kit & finish (from a wall of light kit choices); & I added a longer down rod. Fans here are NOT INEXPENSIVE. Be prepared to spend around $300 & up-- & UP! (My fan was on the inexpensive end-- $299, but it totalled over $400 once I added a down rod & light kit. Definitely more than what I wanted to spend, but Dan's was convenient & offered a fan style I couldn't locate elsewhere.) Each fan comes w/ a warranty. And fan parts are checked prior to an exit from the store; Manager Donna ensured my glass lamp shade & bulbs were intact. After checkout, she carried my fan to my vehicle. Masks are required per state mandate, & I was asked to raise mine above my nose. The store is very clean & it is well-organized. It's also filled to the brim w/ overhead fans of probably every type made. The walls are lined w/ blades, light kits, & other accessories. If you want to see the selection w/o leaving your home, the company website is excellent-- great photos accompanied by prices. Why not 5 stars? Simply because of the prices. Higher prices can be expected w/ speciality stores. The variety of bases, blades, light kits, down rods, sizes, finishes, colors, etc. here are EXCELLENT. If you have the money to spend & love variety, DEFINITELY STOP IN. And if something you like is out of stock, it can be shipped quickly from the company headquarters in Oldsmar. read more

I called Dan's Fan City, because I was looking for help to see why my new fan I bought elsewhere wasn't working. This fan was discontinued, and it was too late to return fan. Jim offered to take a look at it, which I really appreciated. He was able to pinpoint problem. ( wire was disconnected inside) I was so happy he was able to help me out, because I really liked this fan, and now I can actually use it. We paid over $1000 on two DC motor fans. Exactly two years later and both quit at the same time. We called and they said immediately that they must have bad receivers. And surprise, this is NOT covered by the "lifetime" warranty. sounds like they knew these were a problem too. I have cheaper, older fans from Lowe's that work just fine. The Starlight DC fans are just more expensive garbage. We won't be going back to Dans Fans. read more

Nice customer service thus far from Phillip the manager. We came in here just to check out their selection. We have no ceiling fans in our house yet. I think it is a good idea to come in here just to get an idea of what to look for. They have a nice selection of fans. Here, everything is like you customize what you want like the colors, blades, speed of motor, light package, etc. I am sure it can add up that way, but you can get what you really want. My wife and I purchased a fan at Dan's about 10 years ago. We found a great variety of equipment there and my wife got the exact fan with the perfect color. The fan has performed beautifully for all these years. The other day, the fan's manual switch broke, leaving the fan on. I was able to get it off and removed the lamp to find the issue. I took the fan over to Dan's on Bruce B. Downs and with the expert advice and assistance of Jan, left Dan's in 10 minutes for about ten dollars! You get what you paid for and if that fan ever goes down, you know where we will go to replace it. We bought 4 fans at Dan's Fans. 2 work great. 2 do not move air. The blades are simply a bad design. We went thru all the trouble and expense of having an electrician install and uninstall them, took them back, and had Paul tell us there was a 25% restocking fee that they never disclosed. He admitted that they should tell people about it in advance - but did not. We argued with him about it, he took our fans back, and said the manager would call on Tuesday. We never got a call and never got a credit for any amount. Unfortunately, these are the types of business practices that give small businesses a bad name. The other 2 fans are so great that we wanted more. We found them online and paid more for each fan because there was absolutely no way we would return. read more

This store treats it's new customers well but after the purchase is completed it is a totally different story. 6 months after installation the remote controller receiver broke and the fan plus lights would nt work. We complained but the best they would do was replace the receiver. They forced us to pay for the repair. They do not stand behind the equipment poor quality that is installed. read more

Apparently this location has new management and we couldn't have expected more responsive and helpful service. We arrived as it opened on a Sunday. We had just closed on a new home and hadn't bought fans in almost 2 decades. Nothing about the new fans was familiar but Mike Davis, Assistant Mgr, asked us several questions about what areas we intended to purchase them for. Then he showed us a range of options and was quite clear in explaining technology changes in many of these since our last purchases. We bought 5 that day and asked about installation. Although we could have used any electrician, we opted for one that does a lot of work with their products. Not only did they pick them up, but the installation was accomplished in a few days. Dan's Fans City had a great staff. The person that sold us the fan was knowledgeable and nice. The one thing I would change is the install service. I was told the install would be $29.99 and it was written on my invoice. The installer is a subcontractor. When the person came to install my fan the price jumped to $39.99. I was told it was $10 for the light to be put up. I know it is only ten bucks, but it makes me angry to be told one thing and charged another. Sorry Dan! I will not be coming back for another fan. The customer service during the purchase was fine. Used their subcontractor installer. The installation was really poor quality in my opinion. Then, trying to call both Dan's Fan City and/or the installer for installation issues was terrible service. I don't even want them out at this point. I took care of the issues myself ultimately. I would never buy from them again though, given the run around for installation followup. Nothing set them apart from a box store purchase/installation. read more
