Danny's Pub is a college bar located near the University of Wisconsin Madison. Downstairs is a restaurant with decent bar food while upstairs is a dance floor and DJ booth. The bartenders and other staff are always friendly. Our group walked into Danny's for a quick drink and some curds. The cheese curds were slightly above average while the beer was delicious. Great prices for a downtown bar. Overall Danny's is nothing fancy but it hosts a nice place for a cheap drink. read more

I visited Madison a few months ago. We went to Danny's Pub for dinner and drinks our first night in town. We ended up closing them out at 2am - What a great place! My first time trying to go here last weekend with my friends and they denied my id. After the bouncer that was checking ids handed it back I assumed I was good because it's real but he told me it was fake and I couldn't come in. I was taken back because I just turned 22 and when he took my second form he denied that too because I just started online schooling through ASU and he said it wasn't valid?? I'm not sure they're competent employees because when I demanded to speak to someone else he was just as worse. The next guy said he was going to let me in after I started getting really annoyed but I would absolutely never go to this place again after I saw how the guys treated me and others that I was around while waiting in line. Danny's happy hour is great. $3 beers on tap and half off on most their appetizers. You can also use your Cork app here. The bar service is usually pretty quick on weekdays, but a bit more hectic on the weekends. Of course, some appetizers are better than others. The best deal is the chicken tenders and fries. The chicken tenders are HUGE and you can easily have it for two meals. As for fries, get the curly fries, which are a great combination of crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Then, I'd recommend the 50 cent wings. The sauces are extra, but are worth it. I highly recommend the honey sriracha, perhaps the best spicy wing dip I've had in a while. The cast iron nachos used to be on the happy hour menu, but has since been removed. It's absolutely delicious and should definitely return to the happy hour menu. The beer cheese sauce was delectable. I've had their tomato soup before--it was soup of the day--and it was way too salty. The quesadilla is not much better than what you'd get from Taco Bell. The WiFi here is pretty good. I sometimes enjoy studying here with my laptop with a happy hour beer. They do blast loud music on weekend evenings (so not ideal for intimate conversation) and they have a pretty crazy dance floor. Their Wednesday trivia nights are pretty solid. They cover a lot of popular categories, mostly movies, television, science, geography, history, and sports. There are a lot of teams who are regulars. The first, second, and third place teams get Danny's gift cards. One last note: They should add garlic fries and sweet potato fries to their menu. We really enjoy coming here weeknights or earlier in the evening on weekends when it's a little less crowded, but it's always a good time no matter when you come. Definitely my favorite bar near campus. The food is all homemade and so good. I love all of the chicken sandwiches because you can tell how fresh everything is. During the week they have great drink and food deals too, like $3 beers and mixers for happy hour or 50 cent sliders on Wednesday and wings on Thursday. Danny's always has great music playing because of the wide selection on the jukebox, and on the weekends they have a DJ and awesome dance floor. It's so much fun! Besides great deals and a fun atmosphere, Danny's has a great staff. I always feel so welcomed by the bartenders and you can tell they are all working hard to provide great service. Things can get crazy during the weekend, but the bar is usually much cleaner than other spots in town. read more

The servers here are wonderful. Only redeeming quality of this pub. Food was not horrific if you like Sysco food service product. This had basically everything from some form of mix think instant mashed potatoes and the equivalent of hamburger helper. For an Irish pub distinct lack of Irish drinks. So im up here in Madison for business and I needed a place to go unwind after work and I came across this place .I'm not a heavy drinker but since I'm out here might as well. so I get to the bar and I was immediately greeted by this very very nice guy and it's rare to go places and people greet you without bias with such authenticity his name is brian So the only drink that I drink is Jameson but I never knew that they were different levels of Jameson. Brian introduced me to a different level of enjoying the drink that I love which to me is great customer service and to the business he works for it shows that he's doing his job. you know it's rare that people be like hey I see you're drinking this and I think you might like this and with in depth description and knowledgeability which turned my 4 dollar drinks to almost double and it was well worth it . Even with there being such a large level of anonymity between the two of us he's still approached me as if he was well known. it seems to be that he's just a gregarious guy and that is his idiosyncrasy that differentiates him from any of the bartender that I've met Ive been back many times because of this and his service. If you go there be sure to ask if he is there because he is the best bartender ive met and im in my thirties . Awesome place! No cover, good drinks. At night, the first floor has casual bar vibe but there's dance floor and "club" dynamic upstairs. The dance floor can get pretty hot but you can always just walk back downstairs, post up, and drink some water. read more

You may remember how much a dump Madhatters was. Don't let that dissuade you from checking out Danny's. They did a full remodel of the place and expanded into the space next door. This has become my go-to bar after a long day. They have great drink specials during the week like $6 jumbos (true jumbos), $2 single call drinks, $3 Jameson and Jack. They seem to attract a better clientele than Wando's and the like. They just started serving food too. I had the burger with an egg on it - they did a pretty decent job with it! I have not been there on the weekends, but I have seen the huge line curving around onto Broom Street. I think they have a dance floor going on the second floor on the weekends, but I can't really speak to that. What I can say, if you're looking for an upgrade from the usual college bars in the area, look no further than Danny's. read more

Full disclosure, I never got to see the inside of Danny's Pub and cannot attest to their drinks, but I can say with certainty that I never want to. I went to Danny's with a few friends around 10:00 on their opening night, there was a short line and all of my friends entered without an issue. When I handed the bouncer my ID he immediately barked "no" at me and practically threw my ID back at me. Being the oldest in my group of friends (who are all of age), I was quite taken aback. What's worse than being denied as an of age adult is the complete lack of respect I was shown; he acted as if it was somehow my fault he couldn't verify my ID, he would not allow me to show him a secondary form of ID and refused to let me talk to a manager (insisting he was the manager). While I was trying to get a hold of my friends who had already been let in, he told me to get out of the way and that I was holding up the (very short) line. I'm from out of state and I understand there can be issues with verification there, but there is absolutely no excuse for treating a customer with such disdain and blatant disrespect, especially on their opening night. If you aren't equipped to verify your customer's IDs, maybe don't "manage" a bar. read more

bouncers are terrible. i have gotten denied with a hard no (i'm of age) from the bouncer refusing to see any other second form of ID in my wallet. after convincing him to look at my student ID, i was told i needed to get a new license photo (?). this incident was annoying, but it doesn't compare to my next experience at Danny's. i had a vape in my hand and a bouncer told me to leave. i asked why and he said i couldn't have a vape in the bar. i proceeded to apologize because i didn't know that was a rule they had. it was midnight and i live a mile away from downtown so i was getting the attention of my boyfriend to leave with me for safety reasons. the bouncer was making it extremely difficult and then touched me trying to get me out. the fact that they don't give any warnings is completely unreasonable, but putting their hands on customers is UNNACCEPTABLE and ILLEGAL. after talking with my friends about the incident, i learned this isn't the first time the same guy has not only touched but used force on other females to make them leave faster. in short, fuck this place. read more
