I was inspired to make a DIY journal cover and went here with no experience of leather working. They have a bin of scrap leather for purchase and some sale items. Sale items are on refundable. Minimum purchase is a whole hide or half hide for bigger ones. Their smaller hides are lamb skin which was around $50-60 bucks for a medium size. Their cow hide, they can do half hide which is what I did since it was so big. I got quite a few journal covers out of that as well as a couple passport holders.

Instead, the person helping me took a look, got to work, and had the zipper unstuck and running smoothly in about 15 minutes while I waited. What really impressed me is that he didn't just fix it, he showed me how to handle it myself if it ever happens again. His technique: overstuff the bag so the fabric draws out and the tension increases around the zipper track, then give the caught area a few firm flicks with the edge of a credit card. The added tension plus the flicking releases the fabric from the zipper teeth. Simple, clever, and the kind of trade knowledge you only get from people who have been doing this for a long time.

The bags were returned by FedEx and have a glossy luster and shine now. The black bag looks like new and the white is better but not perfect.
