A quick search led me to goldplaited and their male grooming package, which seemed exactly like what I needed. I was looking for something really subtle and natural--just a more polished version of myself--and they nailed it. They took the time to understand the look I was going for and didn't rush the process at all. They also checked in along the way to make sure everything felt right, which I appreciated. Nothing felt overdone, but it made a noticeable difference once I got in front of the camera. I felt a lot more confident going into the shoot, and the photos turned out better than I expected. Super professional, easy to work with, and you can tell they care about getting it right. Really glad I found them.

Unfortunately, my experiences with one of the owners have been very different. I've since moved away from Chicago but have returned 6-8 times over the past year and a half, and it has become increasingly clear that my loyalty as a longtime client is taken for granted. When this particular owner is involved in my appointments, I often feel rushed through my service rather than treated like a returning client. I've also repeatedly been placed with less experienced stylists, even after years of consistently supporting the business and spending a significant amount of money here. What is most disappointing is the overall attitude. My interactions with this owner have consistently felt cold, dismissive, and unaccommodating. After four years of loyalty, I don't expect special treatment, but I do expect the same level of care and customer service that any client should receive. The rest of the staff has always been kind, hardworking, and welcoming, which is why I continued coming back for so long. Unfortunately, the way one of the owners treats a longtime client, and the feeling that my continued business is simply assumed rather than valued, has really changed how I feel about a salon I once loved.

She has such a calming, joyful presence--and she not only made me feel so beautiful, but also so comfortable and confident. Kelly and her wonderful assistant, Nikki, took the time to talk with each of my eight bridesmaids, my mom, my mother-in-law, and my grandma to understand their preferences and styles. The result was makeup that felt true to each person while still looking cohesive and elegant. Best of all, everyone's makeup lasted perfectly--through laughter, tears, dancing, and everything in between--from the very first application at 9am until the last song at 12:30am. I'm really impressed with their business model because it's damn hard to find great makeup artists and hair stylists that stick to a pretty solid routine so you know what to expect. I feel like Goldplaited is the like the Lettuce Entertain You of hair and beauty. Like... you can ask for completely different styles or even get different makeup artists (like when you walk into different LEY restaurants) but the level of service and outcome is consistently on point to your level of satisfaction. One time I asked for a stylish pony, another time vintage hair half up/half down, and both times I was obsessed! The makeup artists know how to make you look natural but elevated. Your skin looks like your skin, just better. For make up, I've requested twice (from two different artists) "a natural, me - just better, look," and also a soft glam warm smokey eye - all of which were PERFECT! I did not have to touch up through out the day. All I did was either add more moisturizing spray or UD's All Nighter Spray. Note: If you want airbrush, request it beforehand when you make your reservation. An added plus is that these artists have RANGE! I'm in my 30s but I've seen ladies with mature skin (50+), Gen Z, I mean the skin types ran the gamut and all of the ladies that walked out of there looked beautiful AF. Not to mention the different hair types and requests that they knocked out of the park. The girl that did my hair (twice) was confident and knew exactly what to do even with a brief description or photo. Her confidence gave me confidence knowing she knew her sh*t. And my hair came out perfect every time. The place is very clean and I've consistently seen the artists wash their brushes between each new client. Making appointments online is easy and metered parking is always easy to find. The makeup and beauty industry can be hit or miss but whoever is hiring/training at this place deserves a damn award. And of course, the artists there are just SO talented. If you've got an event, check this place out! You won't be disappointed.

I have to say, while I was ultimately pleased with the way things turned out in the end, my experience didn't go according to plan. First, my stylist (who was awesome overall) arrived almost half an hour late. I understand that her Uber broke down, but no one called to communicate this to me on the morning of the wedding, and I was FREAKING OUT and had to run around trying to track down someone from Sonia's salon, which I was finally able to do, but it was super stressful. Hair and makeup ultimately came out great, but initially when I looked at my hair in the mirror I was not at all pleased, as it looked NOTHING like the photos I had given my stylist for reference. As she had run late, I didn't say anything because there wasn't time to fix it. It's also true that I didn't do a trial, which could have helped, but for the huge amount of money I was already paying and the fact that my ceremony was a small Chicago elopement, it didn't seem worth the price ($195 PER SERVICE, so over $400 with tip). Also, throughout the time my stylist was working on me, I kept asking if we'd be done on schedule and she kept assuring that we would be, but she ended up running about half an hour over, so everything about my wedding was delayed by 30 minutes as a result, including the ceremony itself. Everything turned out well as I was pleased with the look once I put my dress on, but overall I was not happy with the way everything went down. For that high cost, I expected the highest possible customer service, which this place did not deliver.

Researching & trying to pick a great professional makeup & hair stylist for a wedding is a big task…read moreof its own. I've researched for hours trying to pick the best of the best, and I've had my share of MUA/hairstylists in the past who left my face looking raccoon-like & my hair in weird bouffant & frizz ball. I am very particular because if I'm going to commit to pay a pretty steep amount for trials & actual session, it had to be good. Couple of my gf's had their bridal makeup/hair from Sonia Roselli staff so I had some expectations. If I had any worries, Bridgit was quick to address them & offer her advice. (She was great!) pros: * communication with the Manager, Bridgit was great & she was quick to answer any questions, concerns, & was a big help with arranging the trials and rescheduling if necessary. * the two ladies I worked with were lovely & had a great personality. (Korena-hair & Sami-makeup) *korena: she gave me the look that I asked for. I probably would change up the 'do since it didn't flatter my face, but she was great. Cons :( * sigh...... Woah, the makeup. I really feel bad for saying anything because Sami is a doll. But that makeup was not good nor flattering. I was excited because she's a pro at lash extensions/falsies, but after our 2.5-3 hour session, I didn't care for the lashes. With my monolids, it's difficult to create the same dramatic look as others, but when I came home to a better & bright lighting, my mom & sisters reaction said it all. "Omg linda.... You look exhausted, what happened to your eyes ?!? " I proceeded to the bathroom & saw that all the taupe eyeshadow was smothered underneath my eyes. My family knows how much I love makeup & the look that I love, but they exclaimed that I cannot walk down the aisle looking like that. For my wedding, I want to look elegant, but fresh & beautiful. Sadly, the complete look wasn't executed to my expectations. Who knows ?? I may have a better chance with a different artist, but after that long session & talking to Bridgit about my woes, I think I'm going to move on.

Nora…read moredid both hair and makeup for my wedding, and she worked magic into my super straight hair and made me feel beautiful! I suggest to do the makeup trial in advance so you can try out options in advance. It costs extra but I felt it was worth it, as Nora had taken photos and notes after the session and suggested to make some changes on the wedding day based on what we felt worked or didn't work previously (ie - my eyeliner creased later after the trial, so I think we opted to omit the liner - I forgot... But my eyeshadow definitely didn't crease on the wedding day). I don't wear much makeup regularly, so I also wanted to test out how heavy it felt or how long it lasted before I'd need a touch up. I also discovered my new favorite lip balm and natural looking Glossier lipsticks from Nora! As for hair, I didn't have a preview; I just knew I wanted something half up and wavy/curly. Nora understood what I wanted and nailed it! The curls held up all day without feeling crunchy, which is a feat on its own, because NOTHING I have ever put in my hair to hold curls has ever worked after a few hours. My hair was still pretty soft after whatever she put in there, so even better! Communication leading up to the appointment was easy - the team is very responsive to email. Nora is also extremely nice - she's laid back and just super cool. She also did my mom's makeup and hair too, which I thought turned out very well too. Thanks Nora!!

We did a hair and makeup test run a few months before the wedding. After the appointment Nika sent me a detailed summary of the look they created and products used. She can turn up the volume/glam it up as well without it looking too heavy. I also liked that she uses individual lash extensions rather than a strip. It creates a much more natural look. Xochitl is so talented as well. I arrived to my trial run appointment with a few pictures but not a clear idea of what I was looking for. After looking at the photos for a less than a minute she pulled together this Old Hollywood Glamour do with the most gorgeous waves. Probably one of the best investments you can make for your day.
