Daniel Stowe is a wonderful spot for a fun outing, just outside of Charlotte in sleepy little Belmont. Recently, we've been to their Chinese Lantern Festival and Holiday Lights Display. Both were beautiful and perfect field trips to take with our friends and their young children. While there are usually food trucks on site for these events, we always pack a picnic. There are lots of tables near the main entrance (both inside and out) that you can hunker down to eat at before setting out to explore the garden. While all of Daniel Stowe's grounds are beautiful, my favorite is their orchid greenhouse. It can be kind of easy to miss, tucked to the side of the main path. So, be sure to make it a point to find it before your visit is over! read more

Honestly, I did not think the $16 admission fee was worth it. Maybe I came at the wrong time of year, but the whole place just seemed very unkept. There were hardly any plants blooming, the water in the fountains was gross and full of algae, the greenhouse was closed (most likely because of COVID restrictions which I completely understand), the grass lawns were not mowed, and all the pergolas were infested with carpenter bees. It was a nice short walk throughout but I wouldn't do it again. read more

This is a beautiful place. Such pretty flowers and so much land!! The first time I visited, it was for the Chinese Lantern Festival. AMAZING!! The intricacy and detail that went into creating these art pieces is out of this world. There were so many pieces and such variety. They did a great job of organizing the pieces by type of animal, etc. it was also great to see food trucks lined up too because otherwise there are not many if any, food options on the grounds. There is a gift shop and they sell wine, soft drinks, ice cream and King of Pops popsicles but I don't believe they sell any food. read more

I visited DSBG on 4/7/2021 and couldn't believe how bare everything looked. Only 3 fountains were working and the others looked in need of repair. I had heard good things about the gardens and was really looking forward to our visit, but honestly I wanted to ask for a refund. If not for the wonderful people that were with me that day would have been a bust. We did spread a blanket and have a picnic which was the highlight of the day. The person taking your money should make you aware of the condition of the garden so you can make an informed purchase.....otherwise it feels like you were being taken advantage of. This place is a treasure year round. After visiting during the holiday celebration with the lights at night, I am finally breaking down and getting a membership. SOOO disappointed. My boyfriend and I went for the Christmas lights today. It took us 20 minutes to see all of the lights. The green house is closed and so are other areas. The greenhouse was our favorite part and it would have been nice to know so much of the garden was closed. Since everything is dead I expected there to be more lights. Honestly I would have not paid $14+ per person if I would have known it would be so bad. The lights aren't even impressive, I genuinely feel like I got scammed. read more

Fantastic florals and special exhibits! We went to see the butterflies, a special exhibit. The butterflies are amazing! They had several varieties and you could see them up close!! They also had wands with sugar water to attract the butterflies. The gardens have unique flowers and beautiful designs. The ticket fees cover the grounds and sometimes special events are extra, like the butterflies. read more

Really enjoyed this venue, my review is specially in regards to the Chinese Lantern Festival which takes place after hours at Daniel Stowe. My family and I are booked to visit China and the lantern festival up close and personal. This Festival was a great preview of the beauty of the actual festival in China per or research and friends who've attended. My husband ordered tickets for the Sunday date in advance which is something I usually do so I was super excited about him taking the lead on this. Thank God he did as we approached the car line was super long and as we got closer there was plenty of signage that stated "Sold Out, advance ticket holders only" = SCORE we had advance tickets. The festival starts at 5:30, we arrived to the car line at about 5:45pm and was parked and to the door and into the building tickets scanned by 6:15pm. We made it through all exhibits by 7:25pm and got a good space at the 7:45pm Kung Fu Panda Live show which was very good and kept our son entertained. He hasn't stopped talking about the lantern Dragron, Bears, Alligator, dragon flys and more. We can't wait for him to experience the show in China as we LOVE building experiences with our children all over the World. Experiences last a lifetime. read more

I was really disappointed with this garden. For the price, I was expecting so much more than what was provided. The entrance is absolutely beautiful with the glass ceiling and drive up. You see the map and the property looks pretty big. We went to the butterfly exhibit first. That was pretty neat. They had butterflies and sugar sticks so you could actually hold the butterflies. Many landed on your shoulder and the attendant inside was very knowledgeable explaining which species of butterflies were social and which weren't. We stayed in there a little over 5 mins. It is really small. They have a beautiful water fountain with gorgeous flowers surrounding it... and then that's it. There aren't really any more flowers. The rest of the "gardens" were weeds. They had some jumping water fountains, but there were no other actual flowers. It would have been much cooler if there were gorgeous flowers surrounding it. I'm not sure if COVID had an impact on the quality of care they offered the gardens, but there is so much untapped potential. They have great real estate, but don't do much with it. The kids area was pretty neat, but not worth the entry price. Honestly, if this garden had been free I wouldn't have minded coming. However, we drove about 30 minutes from Charlotte and paid $30 for tickets and left in less than an hour. For the price, it was extremely lacking. I have been to free gardens that offer way more than this establishment. I would not recommend coming here, but if you do, find something else to do in the area because it's just not worth the trip by itself. read more

Came here with my husband and in-laws for the Christmas lights in 2021. It was an amazing experience! Inside the building they had a little village and train setup. The Christmas tree last year was an Orchid tree and it was gorgeous! Outside there were TONS of lights. The Biergarten was flowing with beer, hot drinks and snacks! It was just cold enough outside that it made the experience that much better. I cannot wait to come back during the spring and summer! read more

I love the botanical garden! Funny enough, I still haven't made it in the spring to see the flowers. They host a lot of cool events here. Most recently, I came for the Chinese Lantern Festival. It was absolutely incredible. It was packed because it was so popular and sold out when we were there, but it was definitely worth it! The lanterns were gorgeous. I also go every year for their holiday lights exhibit which I really like. It's my favorite light display in Charlotte. Maybe next spring I'll actually make it there to see the flowers! read more

The garden itself is gorgeous. I am only giving it 3 stars because the customer service is so bad. A friend and I were planning an outing there, and it took 9 phone calls to get somebody to answer, and when they finally picked up, they were rude and curt. I didn't call at a busy time, either. However, if you can ignore the customer service aspect, the place is really pretty. We went for the lantern festival, which was stunning. And we also went just for the gardens, which were lovely. I think it would be that much nicer if the staff's attitudes were just as lovely . Then the whole experience would be beautiful. read more

My husband, mom, sister, and I visited the holidays lights. It was $16 a person and we bought tickets in advance. We live in uptown Charlotte and it was a 40 minute drive to get out to the garden. We were underwhelmed. The lights were ok, but I wouldn't return. The walking paths through the gardens were not appropriately lit for walking. It was quite difficult to see where we were walking and we felt it was a safety hazard. This would be a cool place to bring kids, otherwise I'd do something else. read more

Went for the Christmas Light Spectacular in December 2019. It was a beautiful brisk night. For a $15 admission you take a beautiful winding walk through the gardens. The light display is gorgeous and paired with Christmas music it really does feel like a wonderland. Gorgeous decorations all throughout. I look forward to going back in the daylight. read more

Ugh! Want so bad to give them a five but I have to base it on customer service also. So we come up as new members for our first special event for Mothers Day. We walk up give them our membership card and say 2 Tickets please! The young lady at the ticket counter you are members it is free. So we proceed to the wine table and ask how does this work?? The ladies at the wine and "Info" table tell us you have to go back to the ticket lady in the blue shirt. Really? So we go back to the "blonde" and she tells us that we have 2 buy tickets for the wine walk, really? So when we came in gave you our membership card and said 2 tickets, you were not customer oriented enough to think with common sense if you are members and put and two together and even if not try to upswell your event or at least offer? Then this Mellon heads for the event do not let you taste the wine before pouring so they pour you a full glass check it off your total of 5 glasses and if it is not good, you just dump out a full glass of wine. I will think twice about attending another "Special" event, I do not think I could take deals NGOs with ignorance more than once. In my opinion read more

Today was my first time visiting Daniel Stowe. The main entrance is stunning. The large white manor house is surrounded by lush gardens and water features. I really enjoyed the butterfly enclosure and learned so much about butterflies from our gracious and knowledgeable guide. There is also an orchid display, a children's garden, and so much more to see and do here. Knowing I'd be coming back, I opted to purchase a year-long household membership. Wine Pairing event was great!!! Shared table with great couple and good conversation. The wines offered at this event was ok but not impressive enough to purchase. The sequence was mixed up to the listed complimentary food items and this seem to make a difference. Included in this event was the garden entrance and carriage ride was additional. The holiday light display was pretty, classy, and relaxing. I don't have kids, but I thought the Santa room (gorgeous) and interactive kid activities (such as the outside xylophone, carriage rides, and smore fire pits or heat lamps) were great - happy, warm families make the walk around the garden much more enjoyable. I also loved the train displays, my favorite being the small, whimsical tree house display inside the greenhouse. They served hot drinks and wine as people gathered to wait for the sun to officially set. They even had 1 or 2 food trucks around the garden, so a little of everything. The entrance fee itself is worth it, but the food and wine (not the best selection) is pricey, of course. I'd recommend bringing your own smore kit to help pass the time, and the greenhouse does look better before the sun sets. read more

Such a magical wonderful garden. When you enter there is a gorgeous stained glass domed ceiling...so pretty! The gardens were lovely with butterflies fluttering all about. There is a pretty indoor conservatory filled with orchids and really cool artwork that really blends into the surroundings. Each garden kind of leads to the next which was really fun. Cute but small gardens. Visited in late August and not much plants were in bloom or flowering with colors. The Orchid house was the only thing that left an impression on our visit. Quick visit but a long drive from city. If you're looking for just a mini road trip and wanna chill with someone special bring a picnic and this might be the place. But compared to other botanical gardens I've visited this was a once and you're done. But I do appreciate the work of gardens that was done here. read more

I am a HUGE fan of gardens, so I was a bit disappointed when I drove all the way to Belmont to see this one. I admit that the layout of the garden is nice, but the fountains and flowers were not that impressive - except for the arched fountain and the conservatory. PROS: - There's a conservatory/greenhouse, which was actually my favorite part of DSBG! Inside there are cool flowers and its interior design is lovely! There's even a little waterfall! (If you go, definitely check this place out if all my exclamation marks haven't convinced you already) - It's pretty quiet and there are lots of benches scattered across the gardens, which makes for good relaxation time - Tons of great photo-ops CONS: - There's a $13 entrance fee, which is not worth it at all. Plus, I think people can enter through the end of the garden by a side road. I think of my payment as a nice donation though. - Plenty of fountains, but not really impressive. The only one I was amazed by was the arched fountain (this one was actually really cool). - There were not many flowers in bloom, which was surprising because I went mid-May. This last one could just be due to bad timing of my visit though If you're looking for something to do, DSBG is an option, but it's not one of my top most recommended places to go for sight-seeing. read more

The food trucks and spiked hot coffee/coco was a great idea, and the customer services was great. We visited tonight to see the lights in the garden and decorated interior and it was awesome! Strolling through the exterior gardens was fun and they were decorated so nicley without being the Griswold fashion. There was a pianist outside pkaying music as we wandered around...that was a nice touch. Admission was $12 each adult and an additional $6 each to take the horse drawn buggy around the garden area, which we did not do. The Christmas orchid tree in the main lobby was gorgeous and the train sets all throughout the property were really neat to look at. Members get a discount and if you decide to join after the Christmas tour, you will get a price cut as well. There is a little over a week I think to check out the holiday decor, so make plans to do that now! read more
