Despite a recent blizzard and freezing temperatures, I took two forms of transportation to get to the MaxHealth Center office. When I arrived, I was told I did not have an appointment. I showed Dr. Fernandez the text messages confirming it. At that point, she said she didn't realize she had agreed to see someone who is not a "frequent" patient. I had previously used her services once before. During that visit, I found her sales tactics to be aggressive and she could not really adjust my back, but I decided to give her another chance. I explained that I travel often for work, which makes it difficult to come into the office regularly. Her demeanor immediately became hostile. She refused to provide an adjustment solely because I could not commit to frequent visits and told me to "see my way out." I was in real pain and pleaded for help, but I was treated with shocking cruelty and dismissal. Thankfully, I was able to find another chiropractic practice nearby that was professional, compassionate, and willing to help. I do not recommend this provider to anyone--especially if you value professionalism, empathy, or respectful treatment. Unless you can commit to frequent visits and tolerate being spoken to harshly, I would strongly advise going elsewhere.

I have had a fantastic experience with Dr Rief and all the staff at Max Health!…read more I first went to Max Health 4 years ago after experiencing terrible neck and back pain. Initially I selected Max Health because I only go to female doctors and I was planning to see the female chiropractor in the office. When I arrived, I was told I would be seen by Dr. Rief, a male chiropractor. I was understandably surprised but agreed to speak with him. He let me know that his female colleague had an accident earlier that week and broke her arm so she would not be able to treat me. I explained my hesitations to him about working with a male chiropractor and he reassured me of his professionalism and dedication to providing good care. He made me feel safe and comfortable and so I decided to go forward. I saw Dr. Rief 1-2 times per week for several months and he helped me immensely. Fast forward to This year- I had a terrible fall in July, tore my hamstring and hurt my neck and back. I had the worst headache of my life and after visiting several medical doctors I turned to Dr. Rief and the staff at Max Health Center. Unfortunately they don't take my insurance but I pay out of pocket because it's totally worth it! What a game changer! When I first started seeing Dr. Rief in September I could not sit up or stand without experiencing immediate, excruciating, debilitating head and neck pain. I had laid in my bed for a month straight at that point it was so bad. He listened carefully to my situation and then he and the massage therapist worked on me for 90 minutes! (Game changer!) I have been going twice a week for more than a month and the difference is night and day. I am getting my life back!! Dr. Rief and all of the staff at this office care deeply for their patients and their wellness. I have never had to wait for an appointment. I have never once had to wait in the waiting room. I show up on time- they see me on time. The massage therapists are fantastic- in their care and their spirit. The staff are professional and all are a pleasure to deal with. They don't even complain when I ask for a note for my job after every appointment! Dr. Rief has changed my life twice and I am so grateful. I cannot recommend this practice enough! Go there!

I would rest up, start to feel better, and then out of no where I would re-injure it. Over and over again for a month. Finally, I was talking to my barbell coach and he said "oh, Rena here from Match Fit Performance can help you". The answer to my problems had been lifting right beside me all along. When I met with Rena, she walked me through a few diagnostics, had me try a few moves in front of her and when I was about to say "see, its hopeless!" before I could open my mouth she had it all figured out. She gave me workouts to do daily. They were relatively simple, clearly demonstrated in an app that would remind me what to do daily, and didn't take that long to do. The improvement was rapid once I started doing my exercises. I couldn't believe what a difference Rena made. So happy she helped me through my recovery.

I found Match Fit Performance through the Gotham Knights Rugby Football club. As a new player with…read morethe Gotham Knights, I had found a new passion. I received two injuries, one contusion and torn MCL in my left knee, and one rotator cuff injury. Needless to say, at age 36, the frustration and desire to get back to playing rugby was pretty high. The process of finding in network treatment was a nightmare. After my initial appointment with the doctor (which took more than a week to schedule), a MRI was ordered for my knee. It took another week and a half to get the MRI scheduled, and a few more days for the results to come in, and then another few days to get a follow up appointment with the doctor. The doctor then told me he could not recommend me for physical therapy in network until I got a referral from an orthopedist. After an extensive search for an in network orthopedist with available appointments, I finally got a referral for in network physical therapy. Ultimately it took more than 6 weeks from initial injury until I finally got treatment. My first appointment with the physical therapist I told her that I also had a shoulder injury. The therapist simply told me to "get it checked out" and would not give any advice for treatment. After two appointments and two more weeks I was notified that my sessions would no longer be covered by insurance, and I had no take home exercises from the in network physical therapist. At that point I had it in my mind that I would never play rugby again. All of the wasted time, energy and missed work for appointments at my age seemed foolish. My first appointment with Rena of Match Fit Performance was the first time I felt like I could continue playing rugby. They interviewed me extensively about my injuries, where the pain was, where I was physically before my injury, and what my goals were for physical therapy. I also felt a tremendous amount of empathy for my situation. Rena understood that I was an athlete, and that I wanted to be an athlete again. Immediately my attitude changed toward my recovery goals. I believed I could play rugby again. Rena came up with a comprehensive and personalized plan for my recovery for both my knee and my shoulder injury. She sent me a list or exercises, stretches, and treatment methods, as well as an explanation of what was going on with my injuries and what each treatment was designed to accomplish. As my condition improved the exercises and weekly goals were adjusted accordingly. After two and a half months of weekly sessions, I was back to rugby practice again. All the while Rena was checking up on my progress via email and text and promptly answering any questions I had. The sessions were effective, challenging, fun and personable. They were also tremendously flexible and accommodating with my busy work schedule. I recently returned from playing Rugby in the Bingham Cup. I played five rugby games in 3 days, without any relapse from my previous injuries. Whenever I felt a slight pain or tightness in my shoulder Rena would work with me to on treatment. My team made it to the semi finals of the tournament. The experience was far better than anything I had imagined just 8 months earlier when I became injured. I am forever in debt to Rena and Erwin for their dedication to my recovery process and me. I am certain I would not have returned to playing rugby without them.

The receptionist was rude to me as soon as I walked in, interrogating me about why my paperwork wasn't filled out (no one had ever sent me any paperwork to fill out). Then I waited for about 30 minutes to see the doctor -- who turned out to be a DIFFERENT doctor, not Butera, because apparently Butera was out of town for the whole month, though no one had bothered to mention that to me before I came in. As I was sitting in the waiting room, the receptionist and the doctor who WAS in that day (Moskowitz?) were audibly discussing the frustration of dealing with annoying clients -- the receptionist kept sighing and complaining about the clients she'd been talking to on the phone. As Moskowitz was leading me into the exam room, she stopped to ask the receptionist to go out and buy some donuts for them. Mid-afternoon snack time, obvs! Then they discussed exactly what kind of donuts they should buy for a few awkward minutes as I hovered there, not sure what to do. (We hadn't entered the exam room yet; we were standing right outside it). When we got into the room, things continued to go south. It took Moskowitz at least 20-30 minutes to read over the forms I'd filled out in the waiting room. She asked me inappropriate questions about being single without children, and she laughed when I told her I wasn't pregnant (why that's funny, I have no idea). Then she stepped out of the room to help another patient get set up, leaving me in the room with nothing to do for about 10-15 minutes before any type of treatment had been started. Finally she came back and began the actual treatments, which were fine, except that I was inadvertently flashing her because the gown she'd given me to wear kept opening up -- the velcro had worn off the closures. (Time to invest in some new gowns, please!) All in all, I was in their office for almost 2 hours for what I'd assumed would be a simple chiropractic adjustment (I thought I'd be there for an hour, max). Plus, most of that time was spent waiting around while the doctor and receptionist gabbed about irrelevant stuff. (They continued to gab behind the desk while I was checking out.) This was the most unprofessional doctor's office I've ever been to. I don't know if Dr. Butera behaves the way the other folks in her office seem to, but I hope not!? From all the positive reviews I've seen here, I'd guess not. Maybe you just need to see Butera herself to have a good experience there.

I needed someone to treat a recurring elbow injury that I had let slide from "general aches" to "complete immobility" over the course of a few months. Normally I'm the type of person who ignores injuries and hopes they'll resolve on their own--and sometimes they do! However, when my arm just refused to heal, I scheduled an appointment. In the past I've been to different PT's around NYC to address other injuries that wouldn't heal (broken bones etc), and typically a session is about 20 minutes of manual therapy and 20 minutes of stretching on your own while the PT works on someone else. Dr. Rick, however, spends the whole 50-60 minutes assessing your injury, finding the root cause (in this case it was my neck and shoulder causing my arm to malfunction), and manually working on it. I didn't sit in a corner half-heartedly stretching while my appointment time ran out! Dr. Rick really dug in deep (pun intended) for an entire hour, assessed my movement patterns carefully, and gave me additional movements for at-home therapy. Within 2 sessions my elbow was back to full-range of motion. It's a fantastic thing to be able to access Dr. Rick's deep body of knowledge just by making an appointment (his impressive list of certs/degrees is online). For any type of injuries or performance issues--I can't recommend Dr. Rick highly enough!

I have been through physical therapy before and I've worked in a PT office; I can honestly say that I have never seen another therapist more attentive to their patients than Dr. Rick. Each session you're greeted with a warm smile and genuine interest in how you're doing, but from there it's down to business. Dr. Rick works with you to not just solve whatever is ailing, but to find the root of the problem. Too often doctors and therapists rush to treat the symptom rather than find the actual cause--not Dr. Rick! Because he spends the entire session with you, he is able to track down the root causes and works through both manual therapy and rehab exercises with you. (Ex: I had an issue overhead pressing, but the problem was actually an issue with my triceps.) In addition to his attentive nature, Dr. Rick is very knowledgeable and has an impressive stable of technology that he utilizes to help him solve the problem. The first time in the office you'll notice that there are gadgets and machines all over the place for testing everything from your 3D body image to running analysis. So, whether you're looking for someone to help you recover from an injury or help you check in on your current fitness levels Dr. Rick at The Body Lab is the person to see. I suggest a visit to anyone seriously interested in maintaining peak performance or recovering from injury.

After injuring my ankle, I was uncertain if I would be able to run like I used to. I became increasing worried about this pain and decided to get it checked out. When you enter the Complete Body gym, there's a juice bar and then you proceed downstairs into the main lobby. Don't worry about getting lost once inside because there is a huge physical therapy sign assuring that you have found the right place. Right away, I was struck by how Dr. Lee genuinely wanted me to get better, asking me questions and doing a thorough assessment. He joked that the goal was not to see him ever again after finishing the course of therapy. During my session, he helped remedy the scar tissue on my ankle and showed me the exercises I needed to do to improve. I also mentioned pain in my back and he helped relieve it with his adjustments. I have to admit, I was a little scared at first because you can tell he's a strong guy. But after turning my limbs and applying pressure, Omg did I feel relief.. I don't even need a chiropractor. The practice is very spacious and we also have use of the Pilates machine in the next room. There are a lot of physical therapists out there, but Dr. Lee stands out in his attitude, adjustments, and expertise.

Dear Dr. Kulla,…read more Thank you so very much for your help and support while I was on the 21 day standard process cleanse. I weighed in at 245 lbs. Now I'm 174lbs. I was able to do this within a year, or just over six (6) months, I am so excited about my decision to try the program and the positive outcome I have accomplished with your help. The 21 days cleanse has literally changed my life. I have been able to keep the weight off. I don't like diets, they have never worked for me, but this program did. I have basically started to examine good food. I love my smoothies, I enjoy greens and luscious salads, salmon, and fish, and oh the fruit never tasted better. There is something though that is funny and kind of weird too. It is that sometimes a certain kind of food (like a cupcake) or something becomes just eye candy. Really, I'm like uh. I feel it, but I don't feel the need to eat it. I don't know that's just me, but how sweet is that! The vitamins and stuff that go along with the program I took. I think what made this program so manageable for me was that I planned it out, my preparation, the planning part is so important. I talked it over with my family. I discussed what I wanted to do. I also tried to prepare for setbacks, when I might feel discouraged. I sectioned out my space in the refrigerator, the cabinet. I lined up my water, got my containers ready, baggies too. This way I could carry my food whenever where ever I went, If needed like in the street with me. I am really happy about the changes in my everyday life due to the program. I just don't have the food craving I once did anymore. I can't always have a perfect day, but planning in advance is much easier when you understand how our bodies responds to the food we eat. I am really happy and grateful for this kind of awareness. I think it's priceless. Thank you, you and your team are the best! L. Scott
