I saw Bailey Johnson-Rae…read more When I walked in, the provider was messing around with the three other women at the front of the office. Fine to an extent, but not very professional either. They were discussing tattoos and playing around when I was sitting fairly close to them. I described my complaint to the provider, and got the response of what do you want me to do for you? Uhm.... Well, I told you what problems I was having, which meds I've taken already to try to help it, and which I had not. Finally, she decided that there was a few options for medications that we could try out. It was more so stated to me, and then decided entirely by her, rather than a collaborative experience or discussion about my care. I didn't feel like I was a part of the decision, and the whole experience in general was so disappointing. The med that was prescribed has MAJOR interactions with two meds that I take every day. I was not made aware of this fact by the provider, but rather told by the pharmacist who insisted on meeting with me when I went to pick it up, due to the major interactions. When I reached out to her/her medical assistant about it, and to ask to switch to one of the other options she told me about, I got the response that it's fine to take the original one prescribed, because both meds are PRN. When in fact, the two meds that I take that have a major interaction are not PRN and are taken every day. I know that they could see the instructions for those prescriptions in my file, because they had turned to their computer screen towards me to confirm what meds I was still taking and which ones I was not. They didn't even talk about or address the request switching to another medication in their response. By this point, I was so disturbed by the whole experience that I didn't want to keep fighting with them via messages, because I had decided that I would not be returning. It's unfortunate too, because the office was nice and clean, and the location was convenient with ample parking. I was looking to switch to her as a primary care. Hopefully this experience is just a reflection upon that one provider, and not the practice as a whole, but I almost feel like I would be reckless and to return to her and try again.

And Dr. Dale, I can't speak highly enough of him. Dr. Dale is more than informative about what is going on, with your symptoms. He actually takes time and explains to you what is going on, he also doesn't make you feel like your just another patient. I would recommend Victory Medical to all of my friends. And welcome Dr. Dale to West Lake Hills Victory Medical!

He's a good listener, too. Seth has helped my husband successfully gain control of his Rheumatoid arthritis without drugs and he is now in remission. I had been to countless doctors over the years trying to find a cause for my ongoing fatigue and muscle pain. Seth was the only medical professional who took the time to dig deep and tried to find a root cause. He is also the only medical professional that tested me for Lyme disease. Unfortunately, that came back positive. He's been overseeing my treatment and I am making progress. Words can't express how much we appreciate Seth and the work he's doing. I was given a zero estimate, meaning my insurance would cover all the tests and I would be billed $0.00. However, I was billed $323.58 after about a week. I called the office and spoke to Lamitra(rude cust serv) Veronica(rude cust serv) and ultimately I was routed to Katie(billing/escalations/coordinator). In the most simple way, I tried to explain, to all 3 individuals, that any medical office I have ever been to in my entire life, has always told me what I will be paying out of pocket and what my insurance covers. However, at BSW, they(lamitra, veronica, katie) all told me they don't have a clue what the insurance covers and I would have to call Blue Shield myself to find out. I was dumbfounded. It's very simple, either lamitra/veronica or kaitie simply need to check my specific plan with Blue shield, see what it covers, if there is still confusion, they(lamitra, veronica or katie) would need to get blue shield on the phone and ask them specifically. Problem solved. All 3 individuals said that they "don't do that, the client(me) would have to do that". You mean every single time I go into BSW I will also need to take time out of my day to Call Blue shield, hold for 15 minutes for a rep, and discuss what they cover and what they won't?? who has time for that?? IN A NUTSHELL: PLEASE BE AWARE THAT AT BSW, YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE PAYING OUT OF POCKET BEFORE DOING ANY PROCEDURE,BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO IDEA I paid the $323.58. It wasn't about the amount, it was about the principal. YOU DONT GIVE SOMEBODY A ZERO ESTIMATE AND THEN SAY "SURPRISE, YOU STILL NEED TO PAY OUT OF POCKET". Also messaged the specific Doctor I saw that day which was Doctor Pena-Delgado. She never even replied. Do yourself a favor and go to a professional primary care facility where professionals work. Wish I could give zero stars.

Dr. Ikbal is shockingly misinformed about nutrition, pushing urban legends that were disproved…read moredecades ago. This is all the more astounding because nutrition was her undergraduate degree. She also doesn't appear to practice evidence-based medicine. After her asking me what I eat in a typical day, she asked, "Where do you get your protein?" (Ugh. The idea that protein is hard to come by is flatly wrong and severely outdated. As Dr. Nestle, chair of the NY University nutrition dept. said, *26* years ago "We never talk about protein anymore, because it's absolutely not an issue, even among children. If anything, we talk about the dangers of high-protein diets. Getting enough is simply a matter of getting enough calories." The DV/RDA is ~8% of calories from protein, while grains are ~13% protein, vegetables 23%, etc.) She then tried to tell me that I had to combine plants foods to get a complete protein. (That was an urban legend promoted by a popular 1971 book, whose author recanted ten years later. The USDA nutrient database shows that individual vegetables, grains, and beans have all essential amino acids, in higher amounts than what we need.) Finally, she said I should eat more fat. I asked if there were science to support the idea that an addition of fat to an otherwise healthy diet improves health outcomes. Her reply was like, "I've been a doctor for 20 years...." Meaning, no science. By the way, she asked why I chose her, and I said that one of her patients wrote in a review about how he was able to get off all his meds for Crohn's Disease. Dr. Ikbal replied that the patient took himself off the meds, it wasn't her doing. Anyway, after hearing so much misinformation in just a brief, limited interaction, I have to wonder what other misinformation Dr. Ikbal is operating on. If you want a physician who practices evidence-based medicine, you'll probably want to look elsewhere. UPDATE: After I left the above review, suddenly DOZENS of glowing 5-star reviews appeared within a few days, about 1/3 of which are from people not even in the Austin area, many not even in the same state, and many of whom have zero other reviews on Yelp. Yelp has understandably moved most of these to the "Reviews Not Recommended" section. Is Dr. Ikbal buying fake reviews? Draw your own conclusions.

In an age where healthcare costs $1,000s a month with high deductibles her medical practice model is the future of healthcare. She's reasonably priced, we've rarely had to wait more than a day to see her and in a crunch she'll make herself available by phone. One of the sweetest people you will ever meet. She's well versed in both conventional medicine and alternative approaches.
