They were extremely thorough and caught things we felt like should've been caught by a previous dentist. First off, Im not making anything up. They also said I would need to put an implant where my wisdom tooth was, which has been out for well over 20 years. Second off, the cost for me on paper that Im looking at is a total of over 6k. My amount is 5787.00, and that's if I still have the remaining funds from what insurance pays. I just had my first teeth cleaning and exam at this office and words cannot express how relieved I am to have this office just down the street from our home. Finding a good, honest, affordable dentist is about as challenging as finding a good, honest, affordable mechanic, and Dr. Albert and his team could not fit that bill any better. The hygienist, Courtney was friendly and knowledgeable and explained everything using the photos they took of my teeth. Dr. Elbert then came in and further explained the recommendations they had for a couple of problem areas without any pressure or hard-sell whatsoever. They then printed out my options with prices that were more reasonable than I expected. I started coming to Thousand Oaks Smile Design over a year ago from my friend's referral since my last dentist was definitely monetarily incentivized and taking advantage of me. Not only is it a great office, but everyone is so kind and you don't feel like they are just trying to tell you that you need certain procedures to make money off of you. They have great customer service, nice interior decor, easy location, a coffee machine, and TVs in all the rooms so you can watch Netflix (I always choose The Office) during your cleaning :) My main dental hygienist that I see is Amber, and I can't say enough good things about her either. She is nice, gentle, and good at what she does. Also have to mention that Dr. Elbert is the Rams official dentist - GO RAMS! (Now I just have to wait until I'm in the waiting room at the same time as one of the single players....) read more

Thousand Oaks smile design has a friendly staff and they do good work, and that's why I didn't give them one star. They recommended that I needed a deep cleaning, which wasn't cheap compared to other dentist I have gone too. I paid in full after treatment, and about 9 months later I received another almost totaling the amount I had already paid. My insurance denied my claim because they said it wasn't necessary. I spoke with the insurance specialist at TO Smile design, and she informed me she would speak with the owners to see what could be done with my new bill. I followed up a couple weeks later to check the status, and I received no response. I decided to call back before my upcoming appointment to find out they only wanted me to pay for 75% of my treatment, and that I owed money for work they did which I thought was a standard cleaning. Get a pre authorization from your insurance for any work they recommend. And beware of up sales! read more

During this time(COVID-19 pandemic) you can feel totally safe going to the dentist. They have safety precautions set in place following CDC guidelines. I agree wholeheartedly with the review I screenshotted and added as a photo here. My teeth are in good shape but I get one free yearly cleaning through my job so I figured, why not. Dr Elbert is super nice for the brief window of time you see him, but it's his choice to have the office run this way so how nice is he really? He has all the hygienists push these "deep cleaning" and "laser treatments" blah blah blah. I wanted to laugh. It was so aggressive. I was told I should get a deep cleaning literally over 20x. The entire cleaning the hygienist only discussed the deep cleaning I would get "next time." I couldn't talk with her hands in my mouth but the few times I could I politely said "I'm good" or "I'm not interested." It was seriously so aggressive. The hygienist was describing how they wanted to go deep into my gums and could use anesthetic if needed. I'm obviously not a dentist, but that sounds counterintuitive and like it would just damage teeth and gums. To be clear my teeth are fine. I'm in good health. It all made me miss my old dentist in Austin so much! That guy was cool and friendly. We'd talk about life, work, family. He was never in a rush. His staff never sold a single thing. He never pushed any treatments. He believed less is more and explained how unnecessary drilling etc just screws up the integrity of your teeth (which is true by the way). They don't make doctors like they used to. He retired. I'm only leaving this review because I really feel like locals need to take back the community and people need to demand some basic human decency in healthcare. Treat me like you're treating a person, not selling me a broken car. When I tried to leave they made me go into this weird little room I have dubbed the "ripoff room" on the side of their waiting area. I had to try not to laugh as the woman all dressed up in fancy heels and a blazer pushed a piece of paper quoting me a $700 bill if I want to spring for that "deep cleaning."
