Honestly I feel pretty bamboozled, which is unfortunately very common when searching for a naturopath/functional medicine doctor. I had been dealing with some mild hormonal issues from discontinuing birth control and wanted help getting back to normal. Tests cost a fortune at certain practices, and with the pandemic I didn't have many resources, so I wanted to see what Dr. A would suggest. He had really great reviews so decided what the heck, I'll trust him. He suggested a 20 cleanse. Usually I am absolutely against cleanses but he seemed to think it would help me and I thought if I could detox my body, then it would go back to normal. Absolutely not. Everything got worse, and new conditions came about because of this cleanse. I made an excuse not to see him again and went and talked to other doctors who informed me, without having done any tests and just taking a history, that in NO WAY was my liver ready for a cleanse. I've lost so much hair, broken out all over my face and body, and have to pick up the pieces from negative square 1. Dr. A said that if my symptoms got worse during the cleanse, then we were "right on the money". Yet every other doctor I've spoken with tells me "you should never get worse. You should stay the same or better than the day before". I wish I had done more research and gone with my usual instinct on cleanses. I was told I would get a follow up included with my new patient appointment fee but that went out the window after the first appointment. Money wasted. Hair and skin, wasted. Health, wasted. I came to see Dr. Auer for my chronic fatigue, insomnia, allergies, immunity (or lack thereof) which had been gradually getting worse since I hit my mid-20's. Considering that I am a relatively young adult, it made no sense to be feeling horrible every day. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Auer's practice but I will try! I first came to see him because of lower back pain that was keeping me away from the gym. Not only did he help me address that, he improved my quality of life by more than I could have imagined. First of all, he quickly realized my lower back problem was muscle-related and as such, chiropractic work was not going to address it. Not to worry, he referred me to another chiropractor (Dr. Ly Ho in Los Gatos) who specializes in the painful yet extremely effective "Graston Technique" and my lower back is "back" to normal after about 8 weeks of treatment. Where Dr. Auer really shined was in addressing other health problems I was having, including but not limited to poor sleep, slight depression, and gastrointestinal issues. We ordered a hormone panel and found out my testosterone levels were extremely low (I am 26 and had T-levels of a 70 year old man!). Before I met Dr Auer, I had a severe allergic reaction to certain foods. I itched for hours and days, my fingers were tingling and my legs were restless. Dr. Auer has been a God send! I have TMJ, and my jaw was dislocated for 2 weeks. It was awful. I've been able to relocate my jaw in the past, but not this time. It's never been out this long. I saw several doctors, specialists, and practitioners, and no one could help me...except Dr. Auer. He is very compassionate and empathetic, and saw me as quickly as he could. He treated me almost everyday, relaxing my jaw muscles with massage, cold laser, and adjustments, until one day, after a few treatments, he gently popped my jaw back into place! No traumatic, forceful relocations like I've seen on You Tube, where the ER doctor sedates you and pops it back in with great force, like his entire body weight. A dentist did that to me once when I was young (only no sedation - that was fun), and my jaw was never the same again. That's why I learned to relocate it myself, but this time, I knew I needed help. So thankful Dr. Auer saved me from further damage that would've been sustained at an ER or or practice that uses force. I trust him so much that I took my 6 year old to see him for his hip, which has been out for the last year, and other practitioners have not helped with. After Dr. Auer adjusted him, he no longer limps or complains of pain (which he did intermittently for the last year), and his range of motion is like I've never seen. He's so much more active too. I went to see Dr. Auer after some pretty fairly significant injuries and a bicycle crash. At the time I was in significant pain and had serious mobility issues in my shoulder -- initially barely able to lift it from my side. Over the course of a month, I saw significant improvement in motion and the pain had almost completely subsided. Dr. Auer also gave me some basic physical therapy exercises to do to help improve range of motion. Over the course of two months, I've gone from having 10 - 20% mobility in the shoulder to around 90%. I'm back swimming again and able to do all my activities again and cannot say enough positive things about my experience with him and the practice. Don't get fooled by their 97$ (for services worth $750) offer. Before booking the appointment, I checked with Brett (their office manager) if I will get a treatment plan with list of supplements to start etc with this plan. Note that this includes initial consultation and a follow up with review of findings. She said yes and she also said I can setup follow up appointments after this for a price of 75$ per 15 min consultation. Initial consultation was okay. Since I am already following functional medicine and got much better than where I was, Dr Auer said I am an easy case and won't take long. I needed some help to connect some dots and looking at the rave reviews, thought he can help. In the follow up consultation, he provided a payment plan with nothing useful other than a bill for $3600 (which includes 10% discount) if paid in full that day!! I know everyone wants to make money but this practice is in for way too much money. When initial consultation and review of finding is already covered, look at that 1000$ again for case evaluation. No wonder he insisted so much to get the brain map done(though I didn't ) so that he can charge 100$ per session. During the consultations, i realized that his knowledge of functional medicine is poor. He doesn't even know what levels are optimal and what should be improved by looking at the blood work. Some of his suggestions like , when my TSH increased from 1.3 to 2.4 in a month, he said I am getting better. Really!! Everyone knows that ideal TSH value is between 1 and 2. It just means that I am not absorbing my levothyroxine dose because of the other supplement I just started a month back. There were more such incorrect and vague (note he doesn't want to let out any information) suggestions. Wish I had taken 1 star reviews seriously. I would have saved 2 trips wasting my work hours and that 97$. People who got better and paying him loads of money are probably too new to nutritional deficiencies that when Dr Auer gives them high doses of B vitamins, megadoses of L glutamine etc to repair gut, they feel their life is saved. Instead of paying thousands of dollars here, read up about some good functional medicine doctor blogs online , get your primary care write tests for vitamins and minerals and add supplements (Amazon reviews are a great place to start). read more

I actually used to go to Dr. Scott Swarthout, who was Dr. Dan's partner in the past, but Dr. Dan would fill in any time Dr. Scott wasn't available for an appointment. Now, I've been a Dr. Dan faithful for years. He and his staff are so personable and professional, and I've never had a problem getting an appointment at this office. Which is great, because I tend to only call for appointments when I'm in agony! I mostly go for just chiropractic adjustment services, since I've had intermittent back, neck, and shoulder issues over the last few years from working at a computer too many hours in the day (first as a student with a lot of research papers to write, then as a full-time desk-job-type employee). He almost always pinpoints and addresses my issues within 1-2 adjustments, which (if you've ever gone to any chiropractor) is a huge added bonus! I don't often subscribe to holistic medicine (in all fairness, I don't usually like going to the medical doctor either), but when I have gone the holistic route at this office, I have not regretted any of it. The inside-out approach to integrative medicine at this office is fantastic and surprisingly effective. I also never feel pressured into trying anything I don't feel comfortable with, which I appreciate. One hour before my last appointment I got a call from Dr. Auer's office cancelling it because "The doctor could not find time to prepare my report". I was asked to come in early Monday morning (before office hours) or during lunch the next day, neither of which was convenient for me. If it were really true that he did not find time to prepare my report (due on a Thursday), why was I not informed earlier? And no, I was not offered an apology on my next visit, not even an acknowledgement. I find this behavior very rude. Since the doctor has a 24 hour cancellation policy shouldn't he extend the same courtesy to his patients? I guess newer patients who are charged a higher rate get priority. Initially at every visit I was handed a protocol sheet which was completely filled. But of late, I am not always handed or emailed one and in the one I do have, the "Duration" column is left blank which leaves me not knowing how long I have to continue taking the medication. And since he won't answer my questions over phone or by email (I have tried repeatedly), I have to make an appointment. I no longer feel he is a sincere and caring doctor, just very business minded. read more

This rating is long overdue since I have been coming to Dr. Auer for about a year now. I first sought him out because I had gone to nearly 20 different doctors, all of whom could not diagnose my issues. I had almost every specialist I could: endocrinologist, ophthalmologist, cardiologist, pulmonologist, allergist, immunologist, dermatologist; but none count pinpoint what was going on to cause so many issues. I finally gave up on normal MD's because no one could fix me, and my PMD just wanted to put me on an anti anxiety or depression med. After an emergency surgery to remove a cyst and an appendectomy in 1 year, I just about had it with being sick all of the time. It was interfering with my work life, my ability to care for my family, and left me feeling very helpless. When I found Dr. Auer, he listened to my myriad of problems, ordered many diagnostic tests to rule out all kinds of underlying problems, and gave thorough explanations to my multitudes of questions--since I needed someone to restore faith in any type of doctor after so many disappointments. The functional medicine tests that were done pointed to some serious deficiencies I was having, as well as inflammation and gluten intolerance. I began Dr. Auer's Nutritional plan and within 1 month of cutting out gluten, began feeling a lot better. Following that, the genetic testing we did revealed a mutation that causes me to not detox very well, and with the inclusion of B vitamins, I really began to improve. Not only has Dr. Auer helped me with my overall health and identifying the underlying problems that caused my malaise, but he also was there for me in really bad one-off situations with my health. I had planned a trip to LA to see family for the first time in a year, and the day I was supposed to drive 6 hours down the 5, I got terrible stomach flu. I called in first thing in the morning and although he was full with patients, he fit me in and palpated my stomach and figured out the issue. He gave me a supplement to treat acute stomach pain and inflammation, and without that supplement I never would have made my trip. I never even thought I would need a chiropractor, but when my GI issues began affecting my lower back, I began seeing Dr. Auer for chiro adjustments, too. His adjustments are top notch and he always finds exactly where the issue is. If it seems like there is still something out of whack after an adjustment, he has always listened and allowed me to hop back on the table for more work and treatment to get everything as good as possible. After spraining a butt muscle recently (activity undisclosed), I called in yet again for another emergency visit, as I could barely walk, and couldn't even put weight on my left leg. Dr. Auer fit me in that day, and identified the sprain as well as parts of my lower back that were affected and also out of place. I am so grateful for these two times he has taken me in last minute for emergencies because I know at my PMD or an urgent care, they would have just given me a pain killer or some other band-aid approach, and he actually identified and treated the cause. Finally, and possibly most impressive is that for a year and a half, one of the big issues I was struggling with was a strange dull pain in my heart that seemed very constant. I had gone to the E.R. maybe 15 times for random EKGs, a heart xray, a heart sonogram, thinking I was having heart attacks or some other weird heart issue. I even had a Stanford cardiologist monitoring my heart, and he did his own set of EKGs, a sonogram, and a 24-hour holter monitor. He couldn't figure out why I was having such bad chest pain, and it was causing me constant discomfort and anxiety. After a few visits with Dr. Auer, he identified that my collar bone was out of place. With a few chiro adjustments of my collar bone, sternum, and shoulder, it finally began to stay in place and the weird cheat pain subsides. I can't recommend Dr. Auer enough for his functional medicine and chiro work. He has always been so meticulous in his approach, and has somehow miraculously restored my faith in the medical field, or at least I should say-- the most naturopathic and holistic medical field. Dr Auer is amazing! My son has had a lifetime of stomach issues and the last 8 years of acne and he is now 21 and we were referred to Dr Auer and after a very short time! He had my sons issues all figured out and now my son is 99% better! After the scope test and Gastrologist and Dermotologist and years of misery, he knows exactly what to stay away from in his diet! I had a few casual conversations with Dr. Auer before he took over the practice which made me think he was focused more on the business (i.e. $$) than the practice. Unfortunately, I found this to be true when I scheduled an appt. with him (thinking he was another chiropractor) in 2012. For that visit, I was charged about $700! However, because I was very light-headed and felt like passing out (not Dr. Auer's fault but I was told that they needed the room I was lying down in so I needed to leave), I just paid it. I also did not feel much of any difference in my back or body from the treatment. If you do go to Dr. Auer, be really careful that you're asking "how much" before agreeing to any treatments. read more
