All the 1 star reviews of this place was exactly my experience. I'm a young patient with abnormally retinal nerve per my optometrist and was recommended to see DR Dang. The front staff was rude, short tempered and actually lied to me about sending my records to my primary care physician. The doctor told me to get a surgical procedure after 1 visit and doesn't tell me about any eye complications that could result when asked about the surgical procedure. His business is from referrals from HMO insurances, and medicare where they are forced to see him in-network. people who have the same experience as myself should give a complaint to their insurance to have them re-evaluate. In addition, he is not board certified on the American board of Opthalmology. you can try to search below. My husband cousin got a referral from Nhan Họa Doctor to Dr Viet Dang for her right eye cataract surgery today. My husband cousin does not speak English nor know how to drive. Therefore, ask for my help. When I drove her here, I saw about 7-8 patients were there already and waiting. Some already got eye drops and waiting for doctor. I agree his office work very slow from Dr to staffs. Two things I noticed about his treatment to all of his patients are 1. Eye drops to all patients 2. Schedule for follow up, but no surgery. Today I expecting surgery for her right eye of cataract. But no, Dr Dang said this is a very complicated surgery and very dangerous because she already blind with this eye, maybe she can see the light a little better with surgery, but if surgery is not successful then she might had to remove the eye. Therefore, patient had to think harder whether or not to have surgery. Dr. Dang asked me if this patient had mental illness? I said no, she just a little slow, but very honest. He said a little slow means mental. He told me next time if this patient come back, I should come, but no others because I had more knowledge of his speaking. After I left the office and went to optometrist to get her a prescription for glasses. The optometrist saw she had cataract and said she need to have surgery for her eyes then I told her, we just left from Dr Dang office and he said surgery don't bring her sight back because it is too late, that eye is blind now and no use for surgery, but if still insist then maybe can see a little light more, and maybe none, but might had to remove her eye. After the optometrist heard a story then she said he is a terrible doctor and needs to get a second opinion. Then I thought about all of the patients at Dr Dang office then come to conclusion there were about 10 patients were there including my husband cousin, but none of the patient had surgery except every single one received eye drops from Dr Dang and went out wait for 15 minutes before seen by Dr Dang again with the result. Now I am curious and check the Yelp saw all of the past reviews even 9 years ago and I must say I agreed to all of the reviews except for one with 5 stars. I don't know about this review and wondered if this is his family member review. I I noticed The two front staff are old ladies with impatient attitude and the back staff are younger, but aggressive. The Dr is not nice with a cold heart. This doctor don't have a warm heart instead just want to collect money from insurance or government money. I agree the board should provoke his license and all of the others doctor should never refer any of their patients to this Doctor. This place does not even deserve 1 star. I should have read these comments prior to coming to this doctor. This was an insurance referral and since I was on a time crunch, I decided to just make an appointment. Worst ophthalmologist I have ever interacted with and he was not up to date or knowledgeable when I asked him questions regarding what I could do to improve my eye's current condition. He pretty much said there is "nothing you can do" which was very unhelpful. When I had asked him about vision therapy for lazy eye condition, he did not even know what that was, which indicates how outdated he is. Horrible bedside manner and he even made a comment about how I should "tape my mouth up" so that I would eat less food in order to avoid gaining weight and improve my pre-diabetes; therefore improving long-term eyesight. That was the most offensive and unprofessional comment, and he should be more mindful of how he talks to his patients. Like all the other comments have said, this man is arrogant and a disgrace to his profession. He is incompetent and should have his licensed revoked. I agree 1000% with all the negative reviews about this awful doctor who I think the medical board should took off his license long ago. Here is my story. I took my daughter to Dr. Viet for eye exam a while ago b/c her eye red and itchy. After the exam, he said he needs to talk to me, then he showed me the eye picture, explained about the structures & diseases of eyes etc.. and his conclusion: your daughter eye might be blinded b/c of this, of that, might need surgery whatever etc... Believe how scared I was. After that , I took my daughter to another doctor, he said all my daughter had was just allergy, no need to worry at all. Later, I ran into a friend of mine, and she had the same story with this doctor. "Getting blind" is what he always uses to threaten his patients and their family. He needs to be investigated and lost his medical license long time ago !!! read more

Minus that one star that's there Let me tell u about my experience So I went in for an appointment and waiting almost 2 hrs. Honestly .. it took that long. By the time I saw the eye doc. (That my family doc. Referred me to) it was like if u walked into a cheap docs. Office. All lights were off even the hallway to do your eye exam before u see the doc. Was really dark I didn't even know where I was going Anyways long story short the doc. Gave me my exam and started telling me that I need my both eyes lasered and told me that I can be blind if I don't get my eyes lasered and hearing that of course it was some scary news to hear esp. When a doc. Telling u that... They gave me an appointment to come back. But I never ended up coming back or even picking up their calls. A month later my mom happened to end up at the same location and waited for a long time and guess what he told my mom If u don't get your eyes lasered when u get old u don't be able to cross the road. He even refuses to give the patients more information. He seems to be unqualified to practice. The receptionists have no manners at all. Dr. Dang does not discuss necessary information with the patient. The first time I visited his office, the test showed my intraocular pressure (IOP) at 24 which is higher than the normal range of 10-21. Even then he did not tell me that the particular IOP reading was at my left eye only. A month later and after 3 tests today, Dr. Dang told me I had glaucoma and needed eye drop for my left eye the rest of my life without any further elaborating about the situation of my eye such as how severity of that eye damage, what other option I have for the treatment, what life style I should adopt to reduce the progressive of the disease. He never asked me if I had any question. When I asked about my situation he stood up and left his office as a way to send me out. This is rude and unacceptable. I was capable of understanding about the disease which I had researched before I came to his office. In short, he showed that he did not care much about the well being of his patients. There was sign of his arrogance the first time I was in his office that I ignored. When I mentioned that I didn't see the ball well when playing tennis. He said tennis was bad for health and went on to give some reasons that I thought his knowledge about overall health and exercise was very limited. In addition, he prejudged me as someone who did not know much about that topic or as much as he did. Both were not true. My advice: avoid this ophthalmologist. read more

If you forget the day of your upcoming appointment, they will tell you to make another appointment, knowing that that it takes them less than 1 minute to pull up the information from their computer. I wish Yelp has negative points so I could truly rate this terrible place. The doctor is mean, and his staffs are even much worse! They treat people so badly with their arrogance & attitude. After my mom desperately follow up for 3 weeks & calling 4 times & we asked cvs to fax 3 times, she still could not get refill for my dad glaucoma medication. I called the office & they said the pharmacist has to call them in person so that they would say yes. And they told me that how they work, and they are much busier than pharmacy or any other office. Did they forget that they are paid to do their jobs & they are doing nobody any favor. I'd give zero stars if I could. This is the worst doctor's office I've ever been to. The staff has no customer service and the doctor was rude and condescending. I did not feel comfortable as a patient with him at all. He constantly scolded me, cut me off while I was speaking/answering his questions, and wouldn't give me warning before shining bright lights into my eyes in a dark room, he even yelled at me for my automatic response of squinting. My dad had an appointment to have a laser surgery with this uneducated person today. This jerk came in and got ready for the surgery ( he put the medicine in my dad's eyes which made him "blind" for a short period of time so he can do the surgery). However, right after he put the medicine in my dad's eyes, he told my dad to go home because he couldn't get the money from my dad's insurance. Like what the hell was that?!?! He was supposed to check EVERYTHING before he told my dad to go home after putting the medicine in his eyes which, I repeat, made him blind for a short period of time. We live close to the office so my dad had to walk home even though he couldn't see anything. Thank God that my is okay. If anything happened to him because he had to walk home with the medicine in his eyes. I swear, I would sue this a**hole until he broke. you are a doctor!!!!!! Act like one!!!!! Worst Doctor ever! The doctor was rude, his way of talking is not welcoming at all. I was told by my last 2 optometrist visits that I have very dry eyes, that's the reason why I needed to see an eye Doctor. Actually, I only have the problem with my right eye, the left is perfectly fine. But this doctor said that I don't have dry eyes, it's just my eyes are so dirty from my eye makeup that's built up underneath. He ordered me to not wear eye makeup anymore !!! If that's the case then almost all women on this planet have "dirty" eyes??!? Also, if that's the case, how come my left eye is not dirty from my makeup? I only wear makeup on my right eye or what??!? He dilated my pupils to exam my eyes....I know that we're not supposed to be exposed to the sun right after the procedure. But this so-called "doctor" DIDN'T even: (1)give me any shades to go home with (2) advise that I should sit and wait until my vision is safe to drive home. So, I took my aunt there today for some question regarding here surgery appointment. He walked in UPSET and start bad mouthing us for wasting his time like it wasn't his profession to care nor answering patients' questions. He said "if you have too much questions, I won't perform your surgery". As I always try to be a bigger person, I apologized for wasting his time and mentioning the questions; he then said "I don't have time for you, I have too many patients to care for, I am really tired and I don't want to answer evrything you asked, I already told your aunt (which is a lie)" i then told him "i was busy that day so i didn't come, my aunt doesn't understand everything, she still got questions about the procedure, she is old worried and forgetful" Then, he said "I told the other guy the other day about it already". My aunt said "he just dropped me off and never came in". He the said "I gave you the papers, where is your paperwork?" We took it out and he said "thats it read it!". Mind you, it was a preparation instruction, nothing regarding the procedure itself. I asked the questions about the procedure anyway, he said "it is something you will never understand even if you google or try to spend your entire life learning about it". At this point, in my mind I was like "WTF?!" So, we left. No info was obtained. As we walked out, the staffs were giggling and saying "cho cha", which basically means "that's what you get". I found that was pretty humiliating, too. I am filing a complaint to the Medical Board against this optometrist and his business for this unethical practice. Shame on him, what a waste of education. Worst doctor ever. I don't even know why he even have a license to began with in the first place. Diagnosed a friend of mine with glaucoma when all she did was come in for an eye check up (family doctor referred) since she got teary eyes. Then, proceeds with telling her to get surgery and use eye drops for the rest of her life. I was in the lobby and my friend came out balling with tears after when we left in the car. He had this cockiness attitude towards him like a know it all type of guy. Would not let his patient talk, rude behavior and does not care for his patient one bit. He even yelled at her for blinking one bit during the exam. Would not answer question being asked and just randomly gave his advice. If you want to save your eyes from getting tested with different type of eye drops, not diagnosed with a life threatening disease, a doctor who does not care about you, and letting you go home in the sun right away with no sun glasses after eye drops, then avoid this guy. (I'm reviewing this on behalf of a friend) This office is not punctual with their appointments. I didn't know what to expect. We waited in the lobby for a good 30 min, and another 15 in the exam room. Then Dr. Viet came in. Right off the bat he looks disinterested and unenthusiastic. I told him what's been wrong with my eyes. He then had me read the eye chart. He kept cutting me off mid-sentence and telling me to read faster (like that's not a red flag...). Then he had me tilt my head and put this yellow substance in without even telling me what he's doing, or what it is. Right on contact, it burned like crazy. My eyes immediately shut. What is this stuff? He kept telling me to open my eye, and I tried, I really did, but the pain and burning sensation kept them shut. Now he's got his hands and fingers around the bone structure of my right eye socket, pushing my eyelid in opposite directions as if he's prying open a locked door. (That yellow substance is no longer an issue, my eyes have gotten used to it. But you're just never ready for your first time). Here's where it gets interesting. Viet stood back, and said "Put your purse over there". I looked at him in shock. I did a double take by asking him to repeat that. "PUT YOUR PURSE OVER THERE". I'm a male who plays a lot of basketball. I'm wearing a t-shirt and basketball shorts. And nothing about my appearance indicated that I was a female. On my back was a drawstring backpack (Google that right now if you don't know what they look like) that just had my phone and my wallet. I'm sure it made no difference had I taken it off. I knew he was just trying to get a rise out of me. I kept it cool. By now the pain went away so he examined each eye close up, murmuring things here and there. I heard "why are you the way you are" and tried to say something. He cuts me off, going "Don't talk! When you talk, you move! So stop!" and moments after that he continued with his muttering. I heard "Girl can do this but not you huh...". Viet is very demeaning and makes you feel foolish for speaking up. Doesn't listen to what you have to say. Doesn't invest the time to get to know you. Next couple appointments (following check ups, exams, etc) he wasn't so bad, but he wasn't personable either. He just wants to get through the day. He also helps multiple patients at a time in different rooms. You could hear the doors slamming that's when you know it's your turn. Never once has he educated me about my eye disease and medication, all of the research has been my own. Good interpersonal communication isn't his strongpoint. Other ophthalmologists have been on my radar, I'm just waiting on my new insurance to see who they take. I had to skip class to do an eye exam one time and I couldn't even get a note for an excused absence. Even Viet's staff was being difficult about it. Place needs a lot of work. read more

Mom had appt @ 10:30am 12/9/2014. We got there 20mins early just to be on time with the appt. I wrote Mom's name and marked the "New" pt. I was expecting to fill up some forms. 50mins later we're still waiting to be called. Couple of other pts were called in first that arrived later than us. I go up to the desk and asked, "do we need to fill up some forms?" The lady that wasn't wearing a lab coat but a business clothes. I'm assuming she's the Dr's wife. She says, "oh new pt?" I was like in my mind, really you just noticed that? Filled up the forms gave it back and waited again. 30 mins later i ask again if its my moms turn and that her appt was at 10:30am. Another lady with a lab coat said to me, "yeah yeah she's next" and gesturing me to go back to my seat... Finally Mom was called to go in after another 20 mins. She was checked and asked to wait in a corner near the exam room. Theres a line inside the office in addition to the waiting area (lobby)... Another 20 mins passed Mom was ushered into the exam room. She was being interviewed by another lady, now wearing a lab coat. She asked if Mom has Hypertension and Diabetes. Mom said yes. Then proceeded to ask if mom had any allergy. Mom said Levaquin. The lady on a lab coat asked,"did u write that down?" Mom said no... Then she went to the computer searching for something and said "Ok never mind, the Dr will ask you". I looked puzzled as to what she was trying to ask or what she meant about her comments. Then she started working on the computer and never looked at us. It's like she pretended that we were not in the room with her. Afterwards about another 15 mins later, the Dr came and was talking to Mom, asked her a few questions. Did the exam and put drops on Mom's eyes. While he was charting. I mentioned that Mom's eyes tear a lot specially on the right side.... The Dr looks at me and said wait 10mins and I'll check it again ok... And so they had us wait again outside...10 mins passed I asked one of the lady on a lab coat if Mom can go back in already. She say, "you had drops right?" I said yes and she said, "10 mins". I said, "its been more than 10mins". Her respond was, "well its not exact, even the Dr said 10mins its not exact", and she walked away from us. No shit!!! At this time I was already really irritated. 35 mins later Mom is now back again in the exam room. The Dr came did more exam on her eye and said, "you have glaucoma and we can fix it with laser surgery. It's quick, no pain and you can go home right away". Mom and I said, "ok". Then I reminded him again about the teary eye and he said, "that will get fixed after the laser surgery". He didn't entertain much of our questions. It's more like "we'll request for the surgery approval ok". He hands me the chart to take it to the front and he proceeded to the other exam room where another pt has been waiting. We left without much choice but to go by what the Dr said and the follow up. But guess what? We're not coming back!!! Our experience here from beginning to end is really, really awful! They have the "WORST" customer service ever! None of the staff introduced them selves nor any of them wore badges! They are all bogus! We don't know who's who Including the Dr.! What's really sad is that the Dr is wearing a lab coat that I recognize. It's from a hospital that I highly respect and currently work at... I'm embarrassed about what kind of care they provided for my mom. I don't even want to give any star ratings because i don't think this office deserves any! But I can't post this without giving any. Stay away from this "doctor". He is so rude and obnoxious to his patient. My grandma needed laser treatment and he was rude to her while explaining it. He didn't even try to help her understand the situation and her health problem but straight up asked her do you want to do the laser treatment? Yes or no? If yes then sign the papers agreeing to accept any risks that may happen, if no then go home and rethink. When she asked about her eye condition he explained half-ass and gave attitude like "you wouldn't understand anyway." I was so offended by the way he treated my grandma. She was so confused and scared and this "doctor" was acting frustrated when he didn't even try to explain and shuted her down when she had concerns about the process. She asked if it's going to be painful or if there would be any side effects and he cut her off saying how "those concerns are irrelevant, just decide whether you want to do it or not, think about it," then walked out the room. Like what the heck?? I had to comfort my grandma and told her everything is going to be okay. After the procedure, my grandma wanted to know if there is any medication she should take or if she should do something to protect her eyes (like avoid eating certain things or doing certain things) and he and the nurses ignored my grandma and act like they just want to get rid of their patient (except for one older nurse who was being nice enough to answer those questions after being ignored by all of the others). These people don't deserve to be taking care of patients. They have no compassion! Take your family somewhere else if you don't want to be treated like annoying patients. read more

I was not surprised at all to see Viet and his staffs had 1 star from all the reviews. I don't want to write a long story, my comments for Viet is: Viet was extremely rude, uneducated, unprofessional and had no passion in his career. His staffs were unfriendly, they seemed to SCARED of Viet, I could tell by the way he talked to them and they way they responded. I never had any experience like this at any Dr office, after the 1st visit I talked to him just like the way he talked to me, no respect. It's surprised me that he did not care how I talked to him, so people like him deserved no respect. My insurance is HMO and I got assign to his office but once I am done with him i will request to change to a different group. I am sure there're many hearty Optometry out there.
