Maybe I caught them on better days these days or they've gotten a bit more life. For the most part it's the same, but seems a bit more lively. There were zumba classes and various other small shows in the central atrium which were fun to watch. I think the Sun Star Mall isn't a bad way to spend some leisure time though. This is why it was such a delight to discover Kultura Butik during my latest trip to Taal Vista Hotel. I found souvenir items that were specifically made for Taal Vista and Tagaytay, which were obviously geared towards tourists. For a frequent visitor like me, I was particularly delighted by their selection of bags and pouches that had beautiful and funky graphic prints, resembling and inspired by traditional weave patterns of indigenous tribes form all over the Philippines. Despite having several pouches and coin purses that haven't been used in my cabinet, I couldn't resist getting one. Well, not for myself, but as a "gift on reserve" for those times when I'm suddenly invited to a birthday party and I have no time to buy a gift. Again, pushing for "our very own" with every chance I get. Hooray for patriotism! Hooray for local talent! Hooray for me and you!

A very welcome change is the complex built by Robinson's Land collectively called Summit Ridge. Aside from the hotel, it's a very convenient stop as the shopping or mall area has several restaurants like Gilligan's, Razon's, Shakey's, Hap Chan, Starbucks, etcetera. There are also specialty stores at the second level for other needs. What I like most about Summit Ridge is that there's a supermarket (Robinson's, ofcourse) where we can get last minute or emergency stuff we fail to bring to an out of town trip. There's also several stalls (tiangge) in the open area selling an assortment of items from clothes, shoes, souvenir items and even delicacies. For those who do not necessarily intend to purchase anything and just need a toilet break, you'll be glad to know that theirs is quite spacious and kept relatively clean most of the time.

Maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit but the stores do look fancy: Longines, Pandora, LaCoste, Tissot, Bocu, Marks & Spencer. Honestly I wasn't paying much attention to the shops but more of the restaurants like Wolfgang's Steakhouse. There is also a casino and a movie theater inside the mall. The Mall is first of all maybe more than half leased out. That's always a bummer and doesn't add to the atmosphere. Recommend to wait awhile if making a special visit to this Mall. So far compared to Sunstar it doesn't add a lot of added value. There is little reason to visit this mall versus Sunstar so far. Looking at shops already open. As far as the supermarket is concerned that was a disappointment. Yes nice modern en fresh look but cramped compared to Waltermart and no additional selection that would make me go change super. Waltermart is roomy and at least 25-40% bigger. Beer selection is less than at 7-11. So, hopefully some nice shops will be added soon that would make me excited.
