One of my friends who got married last year referred me to Dancing Together as my now husband and I didn't want to look like total fools on the dance floor at our wedding for our first dance. We signed up for 12 lessons as we made it a point to start learning 6 months out from our wedding, but Dancing Together also offers an introductory rate for your first lesson if that's all you have time or inclination for. The appeal was that the lessons are private and take place in their studio in Pacific Beach, so we didn't have to worry about stumbling around in front of others. While I'd taken dance for PE once upon a time in high school, my husband is not a dancer at all, so this was a stretch for us, but we were immediately put at ease at our first lesson with Miki. She is so kind, friendly, and most importantly, patient. Lesson by lesson, she put together a routine for us that was within our abilities but also managed to impress our friends and family the day of the wedding-and I'd say we looked good doing it too! We also carved out a handful of lessons to learn a sisters-brother dance for my husband and my father-daughter dance with my dad, and it was fun to learn different dances. Miki, thank you so much for your help. Dancing Together also offers group classes once a month at their dance hall near USD where they focus on 1-2 styles of dance. We were lucky enough to debut our dance a few days before the wedding at one of these group classes, and it helped with our nerves the actual day of the wedding. Everyone in the class was very supportive and it was also fun to take our minds off the wedding for a bit and try different dance styles. My then fiance's friend took a dancing lesson before her wedding and mentioned it to my then fiancee. We (fiancee and I) decided to take a discounted first lesson and then immediately signed up for a 12 lesson package. It was 110% worth it. Our instructor Miki, was amazing and put our nerves at ease. Each lesson built on the last and incorporated new moves. Miki clearly is an educator and a dancer. She took us from two people who could sway together and put together an amazing dance that impressed our guests. I am not a dancer and have 3 left feet and by the end felt comfortable with our dance. We did use a few lessons with practicing our groom-sister dance and her bride-father dance. At Miki's encouragement towards the end of April/early May (our wedding was mid-May) she encouraged us to attend an open dancing event held monthly. We did and found their other instructors and guests equally supportive. They allowed us to practice our dance at the beginning of open dancing to settle our nerves in front of strangers. Highly recommend and would go back to both their open dancing events and use them for private tutorial. read more

We came to Rebecca after we purchased a $700.00 package for 10 one hour lessons for another studio, and our instructor decided to quit and become a flight attendant after our third or fourth lesson, leaving us with an unfinished dance. I will start with our positives: -Rebecca did change some parts from our previous instructor that were cheesy and not our style -Rebecca was on time -Rebecca uses PayPal and provides refunds when appropriate Cons: Rebecca came in when we had 1:32 of a 3:09 song, and that 1:32 we knew coming in had been learned in about 4 lessons. Thus, our dance was halfway done, meaning it should have been reasonable to expect that the dance could be finished in 4, at most, 6 lessons (to include some lessons for cleaning). Having danced competitively in tap, jazz, ballet, and hip hop from ages 4 to 16, I have never met a dance instructor who does not come into a lesson with a set plan and say, "I'm going to teach you one 8-count today" (usually, most instructors teach two 8-counts). Yet, when I asked Rebecca how many lessons we should buy, she was evasive and non-responsive, alternating between (1) refusing to tell me how many lessons it would take to finish our dance (so I would know whether to purchase a package, and if so, how many lessons in a package) and (2) pressuring me to purchase the largest package possible. Our lessons with Rebecca were (1) less effective (in terms of moving slowly and learning significantly less per lesson), (2) more expensive per hour, and (3) 15 minutes shorter than our lessons at our previous studio (45 mins as opposed to 1 hour). During these lessons, Rebecca often speaks really slowly, repeats herself, and belabors points. For example, usually you learn steps and clean later (usually the next lessons if the dancer couldn't adequately clean on his or her own at home after practicing) to be efficient, but Rebecca teaches and cleans immediately, which is not usually the norm. We also had to constantly remind/ask her to take a video of us doing what we learned that day so we COULD practice whereas our previous instructor would not let us leave without taking a video of us doing what we had learned that day. Between this along with her refusal to guarantee she could finish our dance with a certain number of lessons and pressuring us to buy the largest package despite coming to her with a halfway complete dance, I can't help but think Rebecca just wants to milk her clients/customers for as much money/as many lessons as possible. To make matters worse, Rebecca had to cancel our lesson because she was sick, and then, we got sick and had to postpone to the point that we started panicking because despite doing 6 lessons, starting in March (our wedding was July 2nd), our dance had 24 seconds left (from 2:45-3:09) that was not choreographed and we were a month or so away from our wedding date. While in a previous lesson Rebecca did say she was "choreographing the ending that day," I assumed she had started (and not finished) the ending because (1) when we left, there was still additional music with no choreography and (2) Rebecca NEVER discussed cutting the song we so carefully selected. If she had, I would have told her I did not want to do that out of concern that having the DJ stop the song at the right place is just another thing we needed to worry about on our wedding day. Thank God we squeezed in a quick practice because during that practice, our DJ did not, in fact, stop the song in the right place, which would have made us look like idiots. This additional stress could have just been avoided if Rebecca had just finished our dance. To make worse still, Rebecca was clearly upset I expressed frustration with her unilateral decision to cut OUR first dance song. Thus, rather than apologizing and finishing the dance, she ignored our attempts to schedule our last lesson, for which we had prepaid and never did the last lesson. Thankfully, at the very least, she gave us a refund when we demanded one. Long story short, please go elsewhere for your wedding dance. Rebecca wants to milk you for as many lessons as she can get, drags her feet, provides lessons that are shorter in time than other studios but also more expensive, and has an attitude. read more

10 days before our son's wedding he and his fiancé decided they wanted to learn a dance for their reception. A mother son dance was also on the schedule. I found Dancing Together on YouTube initially. I was searching for wedding first dances and fell in love with one of the first few results. I was pleasantly surprised to see they were local! Rebecca worked her magic in just 11 lessons. We went into our first dance feeling genuinely confident and able to do the full choreography she created for us. We only had a few weeks before our wedding and it felt like a tall order for her and us both but she absolutely killed it on the instruction end, just as long as we worked hard in doing everything she advised us to do (especially practice). She broke things up for us and made it easy, beyond that she was hilarious and we really appreciated her sense of humor (especially when we goofed up). I was even able to text her photos of shoes to help her advise me on what kind to purchase. We cannot be thankful enough to our dance instructor Silke she just blew us away with her expertise in ballroom dancing! This is a remarkable dance studio. We were facing the dreaded "first dance" of our wedding in late August (only dreaded because we don't know how to dance and it is the opposite of that "dance as if no one is watching" thing, right?) so we booked 10 lessons with Silke Miller (one of the teachers there) and she was awesome. She suggested that we work with her on an online, video link up. We wondered how that would work but we decided to give it a try. We were amazed at how effective these online lessons proved to be. Not only were we able to maintain our currency in the steps we had learned in person, she was able to continue to teach us the additional moves we needed to make our dance complete. We've just wrapped up a summer of dance lessons with Isabella to get ready for the first dance at our wedding. She was really wonderful and made us feel so confident getting ready for the dance. We met with her, probably about once every two weeks for three months. The lessons were $65 for 45 minutes. At the end of our time, we had learned the basic moves for our dance as well as an intro and end. Everyone at our wedding thought we looked good and effortless! That's really a testament as I'm quite clumsy and my fiance is not a dancer. Isabella was also a lot of fun to work with at the lessons. I told a lot of people that she was a borderline couples therapist at times. We got really frustrated during one lesson - though we were pretty grouchy having come straight from our bachelor/bachelorette weekend in Vegas, so severely dehydrated and sleep deprived - and she was always able to help us stop snipping at each other and focus on the dancing :) She was really great. Rebecca is the perfect woman. She fun.. She's charming. She's graceful. She has good taste in music. She, uh...where were we? Oh yeah, the yelp review. (FOR THE GUYS: She's good. It's not painful. You'll learn what you need to learn.) How many women can tell you that your moves suck and still have you coming back for a second conversation? My fiancee and I met swing dancing and we came to her for a "refresher" before our first dance (please don't tell her about this review). As it turns out, I needed more than a "refresher" as my technique apparently totally sucked. Here's what I like about Rebecca: 1. She's not afraid to tell you that you suck. I did, and she told me...gently. Again. And again. And again. And again. Even more importantly, she helped me suck less. +1 2. She has a high attention to detail. I appreciate that. If you don't know how to draw a straight line, you can't be an architect. We spent the entire first lesson correcting my frame and a single turn. This was important, because it lays the foundation. More importantly, it allows you to signal to your partner. +1 3. She understands priorities. After the first few lessons, we talked about time limitations before our dance and what we wanted to achieve. We shot for less than perfect but good enough (Voltaire, blah blah blah). This allowed us to get to where we needed...comfortably. +1 4. She knows when to call in help. We wanted to try some aerials (flips). She connected us with a guy who does aerials because he had the safety equipment and the partner to help us with that. By the way, she is perfectly capable of doing this herself as she demonstrated later in helping us troubleshoot the flips, she just felt his setup would be a better learning environment. +1 5. She is a good interpreter. Meaning, she can translate what we think we want into what we actually want. After I almost dropped my fiancee on her head doing an aerial during a session (again, not either woman's fault), we decided to abandon the flips and replace them with lifts. Dropping your newly minted wife on her head in your first dance = bad. Keeping her conscious with no blood on the white dress for 4:08 = good. Thank you, Rebecca. +1 What more can I say? Thank you for keeping my wife safe. Thank you for keeping me sane. Thank you for teaching us how to dance...proper-like. You're awesome! read more

My father and I took 2 dance lessons with Rebecca for our father/daughter Wedding dance.
