Definitely have alot of little unique beads and crafts my daughter and I spend a good hour in there going through everything they had. Located in the industrial section of Escondido rests a gem of a store, Dancing Bear Indian Trader. The business started over 15 years ago by plying their wares from a truck at local (and not so local) pow wows. The owners then got a brick and mortar space in Vista, eventually moving to their current location nestled in amongst an industrial mall in Escondido. Dancing Bear Indian Trader has now been in Escondido for over six years. Once inside the store, you are welcomed by friendly staff and a wealth of buttons, fabrics and lots of other trinkets you might find at a pow wow. The prices range from very reasonable to rather high end, the quality is excellent. The staff is very helpful and can make accommodations for just about any shopper. This is a store that you'll want to spend some time in, there's that much to look at. Most everything in the store has a Native American leaning, from the buttons and pins to the bolts of fabrics. Family owned businesses are the best! The new location is a bit smaller but they can still get you what you need. They also offer online ordering which is helpful if you don't live in the area. But the best place to catch them is at one of there pop up shops or a powwow. read more

Friendly, helpful staff make this a fun outing. I was really intrigued by the cultural and historical displays and the vintage and new books. There is a large bead selection...I'm more of a gemstone bead girl and I didn't find everything I was looking for, but I was still impressed. They do have some high end beads in a special section. There are raw crystals, though I'm told there used to be more. Lots of beautiful native American jewelry, leather goods, medicinal plants and craft supplies. It's totally worth a visit. read more

I visited this store for the first time ever earlier this month and I was so delighted!! I wish I had visited sooner as I found a lot of items that I needed, like specific charms and beads for the jewelry that I make and sell on etsy.com. I found many items that Michael's didn't have (in stock), and many similar items as the Indian Store in Vista, but at a cheaper price. There was so much to chose from, and I can't wait to go back. I'm happy to hear they will be moving to a new location to be able to expand. I also look forward to how the store may have expanded and also I am very interested in attending one of the many classes that they have available. read more

We've Been coming to Dancing Bear Indian Trader for quite some time. We loved their first store but this second store is fabulous. There is more selection than ever before. The gals will help you with any of your questions, they will point you in the right direction and you can spend as much time there as you want. You will find things that you will never find at Michaels or Hobby Lobby. They actually have things that I have not seen in other bead stores. You cannot go wrong by coming to dancing indian bear and make it your favorite spot to stop. They teach awesome classes. You will not go home unhappy for you have learned something new and we all need to learn something new. We will definitely be coming back more often. Last minute my daughter decided to change her wedding dress. The one she found needed bead work fixed on the bodice. I did not have experience doing bead work but it was too late to hire someone. So I took her dress into this shop. The owner laid the dress out on her work table and showed me exactly how to fix each section of bead work. She found all the matching beads I would need to replace the missing ones and the special needles and thread. I was all prepared to do the work. It took about 9 hours to complete but thanks to this kind owner I was about to accomplish it by the night before the wedding! Tiny shop that is truly a waste of time. Nobody greeted me or asked if I needed help - until I was almost out the door. Strange, because there were 3 staff members and only 1 other customer. Awesome store! I am a quilter and started learning the basics of beading. Store caters to both habits! I am in trouble now ;O) They have unique assortment of southwest, native american, and fashionable prints. A couple of friends and I took a Rosary Making Class and had a great time and made beautiful rosaries. Svea is an great instructor with lots of patience! Great customer service in store and online. People here are very friendly and helpful. They treat you like a friend rather than just a customer! They have beautiful natural gemstones and a good variety of craft supplies. I came to Dancing Bear Indian Trader in an effort to find somewhere to buy regalia beading supplies that I couldn't back home in New York. I was not disappointed! The storekeeper was very helpful in giving my the materials and supplies needed to start myself out in appliqué beading. I also bought 3 yards of fabric and a pattern to make a ribbon shirt, something I've been wanting to do as well. They have a HUGE wall of Czech beads on thread, and Japanese beads as well. I came away with a huge amount of materials for my projects plus a small gift, a bracelet, for my sister. Prices were very fair for the material, especially considering the difficulty of finding such items. The store is medium sized, but very well stocked, and everything was very clean and new. The only downfall was that the checkout took a bit longer than expected, but they said they are in the process of digitizing their store, so the checkout time was ok given that it will be amazing to be able to purchase these items online soon.
