Most organizations offer help only paired with a catering service, and are extremely limited in what services they will provide. Fortunately Portland Party People were available - jack-and-jills-of-all-trades, and genial, to boot. Michelle was kind, gracious, and a complete joy to work with as we planned our event. When they showed up to the venue, right on time, dressed in black pants and black shirts (they looked great!), we were blown away by how friendly, and willing to help they were - with anything and everything. Michelle and her crew showed up about an hour before our ceremony, and because of all the craziness I ended up walking them around the property with our brief, and admittedly incomplete "To-Do" list. I think Michelle could sense I was in a bit of a crazed state, so after a few "Um's" and "... I think there might be something I'm missing..." she smiled, said "Honey, go get ready for your wedding, we'll take care of it," and sent me on my way. Not only did they take care of all the items on our list (and executed them with speed and professionalism), they went above and beyond by serving our guests wine as they sat at dinner, skillfully excusing tables to get their food when it was ready (seriously, I've seen people do this and it can turn into an all out Hunger Games situation!), and making sure everything was running smoothly by taking initiative in all the right ways. At one point it started to rain (thanks Pacific Northwest summer!) and Michelle's staff, without being asked, grabbed a portable tent from the other side of the property to cover our desserts before I could even blink. This kind of initiative was not only impressive, it saved us from stress and worry on our wedding day. Seriously people, these folks are great! When they left the event, all the dishes were rinsed, stored, bagged, cleaned, etc. Again they went above and beyond and made sure the candles were out, and everything was tidy. As if the professionalism of the services weren't enough, Michelle and her staff are a genuinely good people, and truly a delight to work with. Planning a wedding and communicating with a bunch of vendors is a lot of work so it's incredibly nice to be working with someone who knows what they're doing and can simplify one of the many many details! At the start he sent us a customer profile for our event where we listed our preferred types of music, the songs we wanted played in our ceremony and reception, a schedule/order of events for the whole day and details about the venue and equipment provided. He ended up bringing and using all of his equipment which was perfect! I (the bride) am kinda picky and when looking for a DJ was worried about the big awkward stereo equipment taking away from the prettiness of the venue. Ryan's set up was great! It was not over the top or distracting for the ceremony and for our reception he had a really cool looking set up with some LEDs that fit into the venue very nicely but wasn't obnoxious! We were lucky enough to be able to be able to have him set up during our rehearsal the night before which was so relieving because we could do a few run throughs with the music and it meant one less thing to get done the day of the wedding! He got the music for the ceremony perfectly mixed and set up a mic for us and our officiant to use. Our ceremony went so smoothly and beautifully with his help! For our reception he kept everything on a perfect schedule which was incredible because I am the most unorganized and late person every but he kept it all on track! He announced all the important details and events at the perfect time and helped keep the flow of the party going. Our music for dancing was PERFECT!!! He got our music taste spot on while making sure to pick songs everyone would know and want to dance to! I had so many guests tell us that they loved the music!! When we started planning music for our wedding, Eric sent us 30-pages of top hits from his inventory, categorized by genre and event (first dance, parent dances, garter and bouquet toss, etc.) My husband and I reviewed each page, checking "yes" or "no" to be played at our wedding, and highlighting our must played options. When we didn't see certain songs we wanted to be played, we asked if we could make requests and he was more than willing to work with us. We met with Eric a month prior to our wedding to review our day of timeline, music selections, and to give him our list of our song recommendations. Eric walked us through our entire day, what he would do, set up/tear down, etc. I left feeling confident and accomplished! About a week before the wedding, my husband found an AMAZING song that required cutting. Eric accepted my cut version and graciously used it for our grand entrance. During our wedding, my husband and I weren't feeling some music choices and we asked our day of coordinator to speak with him to make some changes. Eric was receptive and on top of it! He took guest requests day of, and knew when to tell my guests no, because I had put that song as a do not play. He was even willing, when I asked him to, to lead some trivia to send my guests by table to dinner. My husband does not typically like DJs. He usually finds them loud and obnoxious, and I lean towards this opinion as well most of the time. Chris is not like this. I knew he was the perfect choice when I met him. There were a number of reasons we were drawn to Public Provisions: local, lady-led team (yay, small businesses!), sample menus were aligned with our taste in beverages, genuine communication (flexibility, and desire to hear what we were looking for), and overall professionalism.
