I found DJ Short Change (Change Dem Productions) on Yelp and read through his reviews at the time - all 5 stars. I checked out his website to learn more about him, saw that he had experience doing corporate and private events so I decided to initiate contact. Despite being out of the country on vacation and on basically different time schedules initially, Short Change was quick to respond to get the conversation started and the basic questions answered. He indicated he was available for our event and immediately made us feel comfortable, assuring us that he had everything under control. Boy, did he deliver. Having given him such a short runway for planning and with everything else going on, there was bound to be some sort of hiccup that came up yet DJ Short Change navigated the evening professionally and everything was executed perfectly - if there was a hiccup, we couldn't tell. Short Change nailed the all of the "must have" songs, played great music overall and read the crowd well. He kept the party moving... so much so that I asked him to stay an additional hour as there was no way we'd be able to keep up the same vibe. Do not hesitate to consider DJ Short Change (Change Dem Productions) for your next event!!!

Booking DJ Shortchange was the best event-related decision I made. He's a total professional--proactive with communication, able to roll with last minute changes, and supremely easy & pleasant to work with. Change served as party MC, keeping the energy up and directing folks to the food, Photo Booth and (of course) to the dance floor. While this cat can throw down any musical genre like a pro (you gotta check out his reggae shows), I needed 80s music running the gamut from heavy metal and punk to R&B and New Wave. Change happily took requests from my classmates leading up to the event and during the party and brought his own flavor to the party. So the one worry I didn't have on the night of the event was that the music would be totally Off. The. Hook. Change is more than a DJ. He's a one person Party Machine. If you are hosting an event and you need music, good music, across any genre, do yourself a favor and book this dude.

Lexie & I had the ability to meet with Jesse via Zoom to go over what we needed the day of the wedding in terms of processional, recessional, first dance, and so on. Jesse was extremely easy to get along with and understood exactly what we needed to make our day special. As our wedding day arrived, Jesse did an excellent job with all our DJ needs. Jesse was extremely professional, on time, and efficient. It was intuitive, easy to navigate, and made selecting our must-play songs, do-not-play list, and special dances simple and stress-free. It took so much guesswork out of the planning process. Our ceremony was outdoors on the beach, and the sound quality was excellent. Every song and every spoken word came through clearly, which was especially impressive given the beach setting. For the reception, DJ Thump provided uplighting in the ballroom, and it completely transformed the space. The lighting was beautiful and created such an elegant, fun atmosphere throughout the evening. The entire day flowed seamlessly thanks to his professionalism and experience. A couple Paradox negatives: in the initial phases the way the company website and communication is set up is intense and super pushy. I also didn't like the app they have as it isn't usable on a computer. I also didn't like the payment methods they prefer. Sending Venmo payments that large felt really odd. One area they really shined was during the speeches. We had a tragic death in the family that morning and no eye was dry still in the evening. Jess was patient, empathetic, and kind. We cannot recommend Mason and the Higher Ground Productions team highly enough. From the moment the night started until the very last song, Mason completely nailed the vibe we were hoping for... and then exceeded it. Our friends are still talking about the dance floor. Between the incredible music, the multimedia screens, and Mason's ability to read the room and keep the energy building all night, the atmosphere was absolutely electric. My wife and I got married in July 2019 at Waverley Country Club and had Higher Ground MC the whole event (dinner, speeches, etc.) as well as DJ the reception. Ben and Mason were OUTSTANDING!! The dance floor was electric and everyone had a great time. They were able to read the room perfectly; with the beginning of the dancing including music the older generation enjoyed dancing to, but smoothly transitioned to music more geared to the younger crowd and kept the party going late into the night! The dance floor was so fun that we asked them to stay later than initially planned. My wife and I are in the stage of our lives where our whole summer has been filled with weddings. Ben met with us ahead of time to gather info about the type of music/games/entertainment my daughter would enjoy, and gave access to an app where we could enter specific songs, etc. He used the info we gave him and also did a fantastic job of reading the crowd in realtime. From guiding the guests through the Horah, to leading an enthusiastic "Frozen" sing-a-long - perfect for our disney-loving daughter, to splitting our guests into 2 teams and facilitating a dance-off, Higher Ground created an awesome party dynamic that was truly fun for both kids and adults. My 13 year old son is very opinionated and prefers rap 100% of the time. Planning his Bar Mitzvah, he unequivocally stated he did not want dancing. My personal experience working with him was deeply disappointing, and I feel compelled to share what happened. As someone who is extremely detail-oriented, I planned every element of our wedding carefully. I booked Alex almost two years in advance and was very clear early on about the complexity of an Indian wedding. At first, he seemed to understand. Our initial invoice was around $6,000, but by the month of the wedding, it had grown to $7,790. Every conversation about my expectations seemed to lead to new charges -- for additional speakers, more DJ hours, uplighting, etc. I paid all fees in full via Venmo before the wedding and never pushed back on any of the added costs. When Alex arrived, I personally felt he was unprepared. We had issues with the cold sparklers during our flash mob dance, and I recall him running onto the dance floor and shouting at people in the middle of a carefully rehearsed routine. It really threw me off, and the sparklers didn't go off as planned. His energy came across as frantic and, to me, not very warm or professional. On the day of the wedding, I was told by both my planner and maid of honor that Alex was being difficult to work with and inflexible about changes. I understand that some vendors have strict policies -- he stated he didn't allow any changes within 7 days -- but weddings are fluid events, especially Indian Weddings. He was the only vendor at our wedding who didn't seem able to adapt when things shifted. At the reception, our grand entrance felt chaotic. The music was blasting, and we couldn't even hear our names. Many of my Indian family members' names were mispronounced and felt rushed/mumbled. Alex had not checked pronunciation in advance. One thing that really stood out to me was that Alex had his own videographer filming HIM during the wedding. This was not part of any service I paid for, and it felt strange to see someone creating promotional content at my event. It made me question his motives. I later learned that these recordings are used to document his presence at weddings so he could prove brides wrong if he needed to. During the reception, Alex approached me while I was sitting at the sweetheart table to point out that I hadn't written "instrumental" on one of my entrance songs. It felt unnecessary and poorly timed -- especially since I had created seven playlists, detailed cues, and organized a two-wedding weekend. Mistakes happen. Not even 15 minutes later, the cocktail hour playlist started repeating songs, which made the whole "I'm detail-oriented" comment feel a bit ironic. After the wedding, I felt incredibly let down. In my personal opinion, I was overcharged and underwhelmed. I also didn't feel respected or treated kindly by him during the wedding weekend. I sent Alex a long email explaining how I felt. In response, he firmly stood by his performance, blaming the planner and me for any shortcomings and offering a $300 refund (with a non-disparagement agreement). I declined and asked for a larger refund, and the tone of the conversation shifted. I perceived his responses as defensive and even intimidating. At one point, he mentioned making a video about my wedding (in a negative way) and warned about potential defamation. I decided to rewrite this review to express my side of the story. This is my experience, from my perspective. Of course, Alex may have a very different interpretation of events, and that's his right. But as someone who invested a great deal of time, trust, and nearly $8,000 in this service, I feel it's important to share what it was like for me -- especially for other South Asian brides navigating similarly complex events in the Portland area. I deleted my original review out of fear, but I no longer want to stay silent about how I felt. I refused to be intimidated by someone like Alex Ramey.

I feel like they captured us so beautifully and we truly get to relive our wedding day all over again. Him and his DJ team were also so great. My family absolutely adored them, and everyone had so much fun. It was one of their highlights of the night. I'd definitely hire them for a DJ or videographer.
