Went to Groove Nation today with my 3 yr old godson for hip hop class. We were greeted with smiles at the front desk, some snacks were available for my son while we waited for our class to start. Very large space with multiple dance venues and rooms to practice. You can tell this is a place that is geared towards kids, teens, and adults with a variety of opportunities from beginner to advanced. I had the chance to talk with a couple of the other parents who were a all really encouraging and friendly as our godson was a little shy for his first time. They said their kiddos were the same way when they first started but as they kept coming we're more outgoing. I really like what Groove Nation is doing and we will be back! read more

We really wanted to bring our daughter here. Today was her first class. In the middle of a pandemic, and when we are seeing the highest spikes in infections, this establishment is making it optional for adults and children to wear their masks. Inside the building, staff at the front desk were maskless, parents were sitting right next to one another without a mask, and children were given the option to wear a mask around one another in a small studio. Doesn't seem very responsible or safe for anyone. Disappointing! So bummed. read more

Our kids have been part of Groove Nation for the past 8 years, first as recreational dancers, then competitive company dancers and now even as assistants and teachers. This studio cares more about making money than anything else. Setting up for events is part of the students training also parents are required to volunteer many hours per year and if they don't the studio will charge them on top of all the fees. Not a good place kids or teenagers. read more

I am a professional dancer in Los Angeles, CA originally from Oregon. I started training when I was a young kid at a small town studio. Eventually I outgrew the training that the studio I was at could provide and my junior year of high school started looking for a studio elsewhere that could further my training. I tried multiple studios in the Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA area throughout my junior year. After a year of trying different studios I decided to spend my senior year with the best choice, that being Groove Nation Dance Academy. Immediately I was accepted into this studio like family. I was always greeted by parents, other dancers, staff, and the business owners, Beau and Rose Sem. I had never met a friendlier group of people in a competitive dance studio, including parents. My whole year there, I never met a single dance mom or overly competitive parent. Groove Nation builds up more than just your dance technique and skills but also your character as a person, and your faith in God. They are a Christian based dance studio and in all aspects, but especially my relationship with God, they have built up and strengthened. As far as training and how rehearsals are run, it is nothing BUT professionalism. Classes start on time, discipline is taught, choreography is cutting edge and up to date with what is going on in the professional industry in LA. And above all Groove Nation is all about being friendly and supportive at competitions. Beau and Rose are all about going to competition with our best foot forward, being kind to all of our competitors, cheering for and supporting other teams, and representing who Groove Nation is to the fullest without bringing other teams down. I drove 1.5 hrs there and back (3 hrs total) 3 days a week to train with the choreographers and instructors at Groove Nation my senior year of high school and it was the best decision I could have made for my final year of training before moving to LA to become a professional. So sad for my six year old! We scheduled and paid in full for her birthday party over a month ago that was scheduled for TODAY. I even received an email confirmation with the correct time and date. Email says the party was 10-12:30. We came balloons and cupcakes in hand to a completely dark studio! No one answers the phone or email! Seeing the heartbreak on my daughters face who was so looking forward to her dance birthday party was so, so sad . It has been hours since the party was to have taken place and still no response. In 2004 I was a performer for Radio Disney here in Portland. Everyone on my Disney squad knew how to dance to choreographed routines except for me. That is when I found Beau and Groove Nation. I am from Vancouver, so at the time, I thought it would be perfect. And it was... The friendly staff at Groove Nation took the time to sit down with me and find out where I was at with dance, school, and just life in general. Needless to say, they made me feel welcome from the very start. They recommended I take class that they felt would better my abilities to pick up choreography and advance quickly in their programs. I worked my butt off for a year or so, and was eventually recruited onto one of their competitive dance teams. As I look back at the years I spent as a member of the "Remix dance squad," those years were some of the best in my life to date. The Groove Nation organization was very christian based at the time and continues it's influences to this day. It was never shoved down my throat or forced upon me in any way. The window was always left open if I ever wanted to join in on a prayer before a performance, or any other christian related events. I grew up attending Catholic mass every Sunday, my entire life, and absolutely hated it. No one in my family would have ever guessed that 2 years into joining Groove Nation, I would be a member of a unique ministry dance team. The best part is I was proud to be a part of that. I learned to love the man upstairs, and found out He loved me just as much in the process. Groove Nation made me the Christian that I always wanted to be. Today, I take my family to church and recognize that not everyone will follow in the same journey I took. I value that Groove Nation never forced their views and Christian inspired teachings upon me, but rather left it an option for me to make my own decisions. I did, and have no regrets. It has only made me a better person. More importantly, a better father to my children. I can relate to some of the negative things people are saying in their reviews about Groove Nation. However just because I can relate, does not mean I agree. As a member of the competitive/performing team for almost 3 years, I spent a lot of late nights rehearsing, a lot of last minute practices, and a ton of unplanned hours in the studio perfecting routines. Again, none of this was forced upon me and I was never looked down upon if I was not able to make it to a rehearsal or performance. I did all of this with no complaints because it was what I wanted. At 14 years old it made me extremely happy to be apart of the Remix Team. My parents valued that, so they didn't fuss or feel bitter about driving me to and from these rehearsals and performances. Groove Nation taught me so much, and I wouldn't change the experience I had with them for anything in the world. I now own a successfull small business and to this day i still call Beau and Rose for business advice. I trust them and they have supported me through everything in my life for the past decade. I encourage you to ignore some of these criminal reviews a few folks have left. I encourage anyone to just try it. Even if it's one class. There are plenty of dance studios to choose from in Vancouver. Some kids are meant to dance at a particular studio for particular reasons. If you are looking for a trustworthy, supportive and positive group of people to be around, choose Groove Nation. If you are still in question, don't be. The GN family is one you will want to be a part of. Take it from me. Ten years ago I was taking beginners hip hop classes from Beau at a local gym. 2 years after that I was a member of 2 GN performing teams, and 2 years after that I was teaching for Groove Nation. I am a proud believer in their mission to be the best and strive for nothing short of it. Took my children to "Groove Nation" for a trial, it was exciting for them and they enjoyed it. The only thing that I found inappropriate was some of the dance instructors were pushing that "BLM" (blacklivesmatter) agenda as well as wearing BLM attire, it stood out. So, not cool for children! I shouldn't have to pay for a performing arts studio if I wanted them to be influenced by that. I would just sit them at home to watch it on TV! When you first walk in you can see that they have "Groove Nation" attire for sale to everyone, but not one employee was wearing it, mmmm! I want my children to go there to focus on dance and be the artistic selves that they are, they shouldn't have to be going there to be swayed away from the true purpose as to why this place exists! We have one more trial to see if they like it, I know that they will....... But, I do not want them going there to be influenced in another direction away from dance. Unless BLM is their agenda, you just never know these days. And yes, our children in our family are Indigenous, Japanese, Haitian, Jewish, Irish, and African, but that doesn't matter, they just want to learn dance better! read more

First of, let me begin by saying that I never really considered myself the dancing type for a long time, but after some encouragement, I decided to take break dancing classes because I thought it would be fun to try something new out. I am very thankful for the great instruction and patience that was displayed by this academy and I was made to feel welcome at all of my classes. If I could leave a review without a star I would. Go ahead and ignore when the classes get out, because as they tell kids to their class will get out at one time, they have kids call their parents to tell them it gets out 2 hours earlier them they said, then make you wait 30 minutes, or until you go in asking what the hell? If you are late though, careful because they will bully the kids who aren't their favorites that they'll be kicked out( people usually know it's not the child's fault if they are late) Also, they claim to be godly, and Christian, but are the first to judge you, and probably violate some child labor laws, in the process. Awful people! It would be nice for people to know that the world doesn't revolve around their horrible ethics and attitude. read more

The staff at Groove Nation are amazing from the front desk to the coaches to the owners. The new facility is top notch and beautiful. When my daughter started dance there almost 2 years ago she was super shy. Now she is bubbly, spunky and has a passion for dance. They have taught her self confidence and to believe in your self. As a dancer for 16 years, 8 of those being on a professional company, it was so nice to walk into Groove Nation with High Expectations and have each of those expectations met. The staff is wonderful, always there to help and answer any questions you may have. And the teachers blow me away with their talent! For preaching Christianity and having a business rooted in God, this place is very hypocritical. My daughter went here for two years and had so many teachers and substitutes it was ridiculous. After 1 1/2 of beginner dance she was told she would move to the next level and we showed up to class and there were kids much younger than her who have never danced. We were driving 30 minutes get to the studio and this was the last straw for me. I emailed them and told them she was withdrawing and why. They told me I needed to come in to fill out a form to withdraw her. I said I live far away and after everything, I don't feel that I needed to drive an hour round trip to fill out their form. They continued you to charge me month after month because of this and call my phone every other week. Sometiems I would answer and reiterate that I wasn't coming in to fill out the silly form. THEN I find out today that they charged my card (an account I don't usually keep money in) for the balance I DONT OWE THEM. This is after numerous phone calls and emails. I've taken a few random classes at other studios throughout my teenage and young adult life but none compare to Groove Nation! I've brought friends with me who have NEVER danced before and they were able to help all of us catch on quickly. She looks forward to her once a week class, even asking to go early to watch the class before and visit with the other dancers. We were blown away with the level of skill and professionalism during the June showcase. The atmosphere within the studio is welcoming. Everyone one we have met has always been kind, helpful and prompt to return inquires. The communication is excellent, whether it's through email, direct and or both. Groove Nation is definitely a place I can consider home now. Living in California almost all of my life I was looking for a place to teach and came across the owners Beau & Rose while in Portland. My first impression of them was very pleasant to where I got the hunch of not needing to look anywhere else to teach. As I drove to the studio for the first time I entered the parking lot and saw a huge Groove Nation sign with a large informational banner that can be seen before entering the parking lot. The first time I stepped into the facility it was nice and clean and felt very welcoming as there is a front desk with a beautiful Groove Nation sign that is lit up. There are snacks and a vending a machine available for the dancers which is important because there are always students who spend a lot of time training and taking classes. There is a nice big lounge where parents and students can be comfortable. There are tv's that display Groove Nation's values. There's also a small retail area to get some fresh Groove Nation gear. The staff is very friendly and the students are very welcoming and supporting of each other. The few days there is sun or warmth outside the staff puts out a couple of tables and chairs. Inside the dance rooms they are equipped with nice dance floors and awesome club style lights that allows dancers to get the performance feel. Great idea! Overall, based on my previous experiences at other studios I feel Groove Nation really goes above and beyond to provide an inspiring, welcoming and friendly environment for both the students/dancers and the parents. I'm giving this studio a star for having an instructor of the tiny tots class. She is great with kids we have been attending the class there for 3 months and in that time I had to make the staff clean the room twice before beginning of the class. This is the most filthy facility for kids, especially for the toddlers that attend the class: dirt, clumps of hair, candy wrappers in the corners that has been there for weeks. When asked if the room ever gets cleaned, they say it gets cleaned every day, however every Saturday morning it is a disgusting place to go to. I'm not talking about the marks that dance shoes leave, it is literally piles of dirt. Unfortunately we already paid for this months and they won't return the money, so we have to withdraw next month. read more
