Get out and Dance!…read more Wanted to take a moment to review our daughter's dance studio - Movement and Sound Dance. She has been enrolled in multiple classes here for the past four years or so (namely tap and jazz). She is excited to go and has made many new friends here. The staff has a ton of experience and work great with the kids. The studio has many different classes for young toddler/pre-k kids all the way up through high school. Lots of enrollment in competition events. Our daughter's class actually just got a Platinum award over the weekend. A few years ago, the owners relocated the studio to the Busch Parkway address. So, the facility is new and updated. Over the past couple years with Covid, they have incorporated many safety protocols as well. They do a good job promoting positivity among the kids and above all having fun! You can't go wrong here, if you have a kid interested in dancing, check it out.

It may not be as big as bigger cities (LA, NY) but I'm glad they had one. Here was my experience here. AMBIANCE: It's in more of a suburban area of Chicago. Relatively close (15 minutes) away from the airport and from downtown. The place itself is on the 2nd floor of a building. It seems like a pretty historic brick building with a spacious layout. The layout is basically one big floor to dance on with ceiling lights and string lights to bright up the place. The class consisted of a lot of talented 40+ which was cool as they had a lot of knowledge to share. The size is great for group practices and socials. Parking - Pretty much just street parking. Customer Service - Awesome! My instructor was Dawn Lara and she was great! Knowledgeable and friendly. I felt pretty welcomed in this place. TL;DR OVERALL 4.5 Stars. I had a great experience here! The instructors were awesome and my classmates were pretty fun. One of the main things for me was always feeling will people be condescending and whatnot, but the vibes were pretty welcoming here. This was a good start to learning more about the dance community and scene here in Chicago, I just wish I stayed longer to learn more! She clearly had favorites (we weren't one), and we observed her not even address my daughter despite her running toward her yelling her name out of excitement in class. Sure, you might have a couple favorite kids, but never show it. It got to the point that my daughter made comments to my wife and I at home that "Ms. Nicole won't say hi to me." For anyone with young kids or had young kids, for a 3 year old to say this, it must be a pattern of behavior. It broke our hearts. And to cap off the experience, the night of the recital, my wife and I admit we forgot to pay the remaining balance with everything else going on in our lives (expecting baby #2 in 3 weeks to name the biggest). Nicole greeted my wife and mother-in-law in quite possibly the rudest and most disrespectful way imaginable...."I don't have time for this tonight. She can't come in until you pay!" Thankfully we had enough cash to pay, but she released our tickets the day before and would have sent us home for an oversight we clearly were willing to pay. She caused a scene, and it was completely out of line. Her tone, demeanor, attitude, and overall treatment of people she doesn't care for is unbelievably disappointing and unfortunate. Not to mention, the lack of organization at the recital, the lack of food and drinks for young kids, etc. was all shocking (it was from 4-7p). Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

She started at 3 years and has been with the same group of girls since starting. They are now her pals! The atmosphere is welcoming, kind and supportive. Miss Nicole (her teacher and owner) is a savant with the kids. They love her and are always so excited to see her. She teaches a well organized class that covers dance basics in a fun and creative way. The location is super convenient - big parking lot with a Dominics, Old Navy, Marshalls and Starbucks in easy walking distance! The facilities are great and well kept. The business is run smoothly, efficiently, and the communication is fantastic! I never feel like I wasn't notified about something or that I'm out of the loop! I would highly recommend Collective Dance to anyone wanting to put their child into a dance class. It has been such a great time. Forget about your visions of country music in a barn. It is fun, fast and the people in the group are so friendly and helpful. Bruce is a great teacher. Very patient and accommodating and usually pretty funny. Don't worry about needing to be able to "dance". Square Dancing is choreographed walking to the music. Bruce mixes in the Pop with the country. Last night we danced to "Call Me Maybe, Hit Me With Your Best Shot and Penny Lane". I highly recommend this as a great way to have fun, meet people and get some exercise.

She is great at reading the room, challenging the group and then giving a simpler dance to let you regain your bearings. I've been meaning for my 3 year old to follow in his siblings Lil Kickers footsteps for about 1.5…read moreyears now, but when it comes to the 3rd child convenience is key...and the old Hi-Five location just wasn't convenient for us. However, when I saw they were moving to Northbrook Court and had a morning class that worked with my little one's schedule I signed up immediately. He's been in the class about a month now and I get pics from my nanny every week of him with a huge smile kicking the ball. It turns out he's not totally following in his big sister's footsteps who instead of participating would twirl in the middle of the soccer field. Last week I joined my little one for his class and was so impressed. The space itself is absolutely amazing. The old space was fine, but nothing in comparison to what they've built here in Northbrook Court. And the Lil Kickers class itself was great too. It's not easy to keep the attention of a group of rowdy 2 and 3 year olds, but they were all listening perfectly to Coach Dan...and I couldn't believe it was the same child who had been a terror for me all morning. A few days later we attended a birthday party with Coach PJ. My 3 year old went running towards Hi-Five screaming "Yay! It's kicker time!" and my 6 year old was also eager to check out his little brother's favorite activity. PJ worked his magic and did organized games with a large group of 2 and 3 year olds for an hour ( + my equally enthused 6 year old). I"m not sure what his secret is, but he may need to move in with me to teach me how to control my own children. They had rented a portion of the space so there were a bunch of classes going on at the same time, but the bday party was in a private enough space that it was perfect. However, I couldn't help, but already start thinking about doing a joint bday party for my own boys later this year since it's one of the few spaces that would work for a vary large group with multiple ages. My little ones will be excited when they realize our calendar the next few months is booked solid with hi-five parties. I highly recommend looking into their classes (their flag football looked really fun too!) and checking it out for your bday party needs.
