I started learning dance with Ceech with very little dance experience. I've taken a few dance classes elsewhere but with Ceech, the learning experience has been more rewarding. He focuses on making your foundational skills more solid. For a beginner, it's easy to rush to look cool but with Ceech, a lot of patience is involved from him into making a move really solid. This is exactly what I'm looking for from my dance coach -grounding the basic moves really well. In helping his students get to a move, I appreciate the progressive approach he takes into getting to the final move. Not only does Ceech break it down into smaller and easier steps, he also improvises progressive steps that starts from the easier moves that leads to the more complicated moves and eventually to the move we're trying to nail down. He does this based on what he observes real time about your situation and your current dance skills so I actually end up learning the move faster than if I were to just practice the harder move 10,000 times. I also appreciate Ceech's knowledge in dance in general. I also share my experience from my other dance classes with him and sometimes we talk about moves from my other classes as well. You can also learn a lot about the history of hip hop from him, for those who are interested. So far, I've had about 6-7 lessons with Ceech but I do see myself learning from him long term. I hadn't truly danced since I was 6 years old, and wanted to get active again, as I wanted to keep fit and keep some of the weight off from years at work. As I was searching dance studios, I cam across Ceech's yelp profile, yet time didn't allow me to enroll. Fast forward to Summer of '16, and I was out of work and registering for classes at the time. Physically, not in the best of shape, I decided to register for Yoga and Hip Hop classes. As my schedule didn't allow, I registered for the Intermediate class, and was just intimidated by the thought of all these advanced dancers. But on the first evening, I was immediately greeted with a smile and introduction from Ceech. Shortly thereafter, current students started roaming in and introducing themselves. Already being anxious, I was reassured that this was going to be great and I had no regrets. I hadn't moved in a very long time, and Ceech just instructed me to follow along. Long story short, I've taken his Hip Hop courses for the past year, signed up each term in Intro, Beginning, Intermediate, and now Advanced. I've been trying to get to the gym, but dancing always makes the rote routine of working out fun and challenging. Ceech will always challenge you, and it's always up to you to do your best. I hand't always attended class before as I had been busy with work and/or school, but when I'm committed, Ceech is always happy to help and push me get better. The people you meet in class are really friendly and humble, and come from all walks of life, from Engineers to Realtors, International Aid Volunteers, local friendly Servers and Customer Service people you meet at the local restaurant, to dancers looking to hone their skills in their career in Fine Arts & Dance, or just people who are trying to find a good workout and tired of the daily gym exercise. And of course, Junior College students moving on to Universities. We come from all walks of life, and not everyone is good at dancing. But that doesn't matter because no one judges, we all do our best, and we all try to have fun while getting a good workout. I could literally write an essay about how this guy is hands down the best hip hop dance teacher in the bay area, but I'll give you a summary of why I feel this guy is 5 star across the board. 1. Lives and breathes music and dance - His understanding of the two and the part that they play in his life come out so transparently in the passion he puts into not only is dance but the way that he teaches. 2. An amazing Teacher - He has a way of breaking down complicated dance moves into simple instructions so that your mind can process them. "Pretend there is a drum in front of you that you have to hit with your head by bowing". Each person is different and he has a way of changing that instruction up depending on the student so they get it 3. Dances at your level - Believe me Ceech is an amazing dancer, however he knows that everyone is at a different place and people have different goals. Our first lesson was a conversation on what I wanted to get out of hip hop dancing. 4. Starts with a foundation - Since my skill is not very high, I appreciated this so much. Ceech started me off with just feeling out the music and getting into the groove of it. Once I had a good handle on that, we started building from those foundational moves and I feel ultimately this has and will continue to make me a better dancer 5. Dancing class with Ceech is definitely a very unique experience. I did trials of multiple dance class around the bay area. Most of the classes focus on showing the techniques. I joined the class and learned some techniques then went home knowing nobody in the class. In Ceech's class from Mission college I met so many people who love to show you how to dance. It doesn't matter what level you are at, you will always be included and considered as a group. I noticed that he purposefully makes it a point for his students to connect to each other. He's forming a dancing family/community that makes everyone feel comfortable and confident in learning how to dance. When I started working with Ceech, I had no previous dance experience (with the exception of looking ridiculous on the dance floor at a club Friday night). Thanks to Ceech and his family!!! When I joined the Ballroom Dancing Class last year (Fall) at Mission College, I really thought that it was the Dance moves that I wanted to learn. I can't say enough about this guy. He's a great teacher--totally patient and respectful to all level of dancers. He has a genuine love for dance and has always been nothing but encouraging to his students. I had taken classes and private lessons with him, and have learned much that I can even take onto the dance floor. I didn't know which one, so I decided to take this online test and the results were Hip hop. Why should you dance with Ceech? He will teach you the basics. Ceech does teach beginning, intermediate, and advance hip hop. His class is a very friendly/positive environment. Students will meet all of kinds of people from different backgrounds. Ceech will show you a move then he will break it down into small steps first. He will build upon those steps into bigger steps and the actual move itself. A few years ago, my then boyfriend and I stumbled across Ceech's hip hop class at Mission College. I've taken a few dance classes at other studios before, but Ceech's class was completely different. He makes it a point to have everyone get to know one another, so you feel comfortable dancing with each other, and as a result, form a fun, friendly environment. I took two semesters of hip hop classes from Ceech and it's awesome! I have been in jazz dance, modern dance, ballet, and other dance classes, and this is the best one I that would repeat! Ceech is enthusiastic and not to mention he dances really cool, and he knows how to bring people into the dance, and connect students into a group instead of individuals that dance on their own. For the Mission College classes I take, we cover one or two sets of choreography each semester and there is an optional public performance for each of them. It's optional but I highly recommend everyone to go for it because it's so much fun to dance on stage and it will be your life time memory (at least for me ^_^) Well, you never know when you need to dance... Last month I have a chance to be on a TV show and I am asked to show some "talent" (which I don't think I have any). Guess what, I just show them what I learned from Ceech's class and it rocks! Ceech is just plain awesome. He is an exceptional, well-connected dancer with a long list of accolades, but what makes him the best kind of instructor are his heart and his character. He is respectful but also pushes his students forward. He is serious about dancing, but also fun and wants everyone to have a good time. I had taken a couple of hip-hop classes before his, and they were mostly souped-up aerobics, but still decent and fun. However, what you get with Ceech is beyond that--it's an experience. You gain knowledge and an introduction to dance culture and history while truly learning the arts of hip-hop, popping, and locking. Folks that worry about no prior dance experience should not turn away. There are lots of drills to practice the moves that you will learn. I'm an older woman who loves to dance (in my 60's). Ceech's Advanced Hip Hop Class was happening right next door to my Ballroom Class. I could see them through the window on the adjoining classroom door... WOW ! I felt I could do SOME of those moves... I JUST HAD TO SIGN UP for Ceech's Beginning class. WHOA ! Not only did I work REALLY hard to learn to dance cool ;) ... I made friends with great students of ALL levels of hip hop ! I've taken about a year of dance classes with Ceech, and it's been a great experience. He's great at motivating beginners and helping them build the foundation movements for more advanced moves. Sometimes his former/current students (some of whom dance professionally now), come visit the class to share their experiences with competing and dancing full-time. Others formed dance groups that compete in local competitions, and they also come to our class to tutor and practice with us. The students end up forming a community around his classes. I think it's because he also imparts the thinking and the feeling behind hip-hop, so even those of us who aren't great at dancing get a better idea of the hip-hop community, and he keeps it fun enough that most of us keep trying to get better. His classes are pretty unique, cuz I've taken other hip hop classes at 3 different places before, and in most classes, we're just trying to stare at the teacher and mimic their movements as best we can.
