We found Sarah Kennedy Ballet for young people to be much better choice for our two daughters than well known alternatives in New Haven (which we tried for a full year before we found out about Sarah's studio). Particularity for very small girls, I like the way Sarah combines stories and dancing to capture kids attention, and use their imagination to develop a love for dancing. Our younger one keeps dancing at home every day and she is in complete awe of her ballet teacher. Wish I had that kid of influence on my own kid. For a bit older girls the practice is more "traditional" with focus on their ballet technique, as far as I can tell. What I found particularity striking is that performance of older girls (13-to-15) is on a very high level. Not all of them showed the same level, obviously talent plays a significant roll too, but for the ones that have a talent - their dancing was spectacular. We went to see Yale students perform just weeks before Sarah's show, and in our opinion three girls from Sarah's school were better than any we have seen at Yale (and let's keep in mind that those are under 15, while at Yale those were students). Impressive. I also want to mention that Sarah studio provides workout classes that are combination of stretching and strengthening. If you have a desk job, like me, you have to try this. I was a bit reluctant, but my wife persuaded me to go, and I must admit now that I owe her a big time, as this workout has done miracles for my back pain.

There were other beginners in a class of about 10 so that immediately made it less intimidating. Classes are $20 each and they have an unlimited option for between $100 & $115 per month. The salsa taught here is not ballroom, it's for salsa club dancing and it's taught on 2, as opposed to 1 for those who are familiar with dance terminology. There are beginner classes on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 7 and 12 pm on Saturdays. I am told that one night they even go to a salsa club to test out moves. Overall it was a very warm and inviting experience. After teaching you the steps on your own they even conduct part of the class paired up which makes things interesting. If you're looking to learn how to dance salsa for fun or a different way to get some exercise and are in or close to the New Haven area, I would highly recommend checking out Rumberos.

The baby has been there for a week and loves it, easy transition, and we are comfortable leaving here as well. I was thinking we'll use the Groupon and then never come back. Imagine How surprised I was when I found the classes to be amazingly fun! David, our Instructor, is Hilarious and a great teacher. We have signed up for the follow on curriculum and I'm happy to say that I think I can now consider myself an intermediate dancer. The other regular instructors, Sandy and Kevin, are likewise amazing and very knowledgeable. They, along with David, Have formed a close knit group of people into a very tight community that make coming to dance class fun! An example of how great this is is group class. Now many people, and i was among them, think group classes are awkward and weird: You go to dance with your partner, not with other people! but with this group it's not weird at all and very helpful! Located in downtown, Middletown, CT, Vinnie's is home to a bunch of different alternative classes, including (but not limited to) Yoga, Belly dancing, swing, B-Boying, and the list does not stop there. This is the dance school that seems to caters to adults first, and then the children. The ages of folks taking these classes varies from 17 to 67 and probably beyond! The classes are also affordable. As a bboy, I stepped into a swing-dancing club night there and it was amazing - they treated me like one of their locals and when the beat was right, I was able to do my thing and they loved it. It was a great show of reciprocated respect and admiration for how we expressed ourselves. Anyway, I would take a look at Vinnie's, see their schedule and take a class or two!
