Definitely had to give them a great review after I came in there Black Friday about purchasing a handgun for myself and Wade was incredibly patient, with me going all over the place about what I'm looking for in the next year to start my collection and SUPER knowledgeable! I came back in there the other day to look at some more I overlooked that he had shown me, I'm positive everyone else behind the counter is also knowledgeable as well but I definitely wanted to magnify the understanding and consideration for a woman who isn't sure what she wants! I had a great experience here, especially compared to some very specific, not-great experiences at other places in the past. I will preface this by saying that I am a 5' 4.5" lady who dresses like a Stepford Wife so my experience is pretty unique to my circumstances. The lady who helped me was beyond helpful. I was trying to pick out a new firearm, but I need something tiny and very lightweight due to how I conceal carry. She opened case after case to show me all of the lightweight and small ones she could think of, recommended some adorable new CCW handbags they had gotten in. I really liked that there are a variety of different people working here because it is a very different experience for a short woman shopping for what she considers a comfortable firearm, when I am being helped by a similarly-sized lady, versus in the past when I have gone places and been talked down to by a gentleman twice my size who can't understand why something that he finds comfortable will not fit in my hand or my evening clutch... It gets exhausting having them ask my husband if he is going to teach me how to hold a gun, or if he is okay with me getting one, and this has been the first time I have actually been helped by someone who understands that I can be retired military AND an expert marksman AND a lady. I enjoy doing business with Marlon and his employees. They are attentative and friendly. Dances has a well-stocked inventory of firearms and accessories. I am not a polymer type firearms person and am more interested in wood and blued steel firearms from an earlier time. Went today for the 1st time and wasn't expecting much do to some of the reviews. I was completely shocked to find an absolutely awesome fishing store. I got there 45 minutes before they closed and had to power shop the fishing section just to get it all in. I don't think there is 1 bait that Zoom makes that they don't have. Allot of high end swimbaits, Megabass, Rico's, they got it. If the hunting and pew pew side is the same it's gem of a place, I'm going earlier next time so I can see the whole store. I got some really great deals here on ammunition, a gun bag, and a few gun accessories. They also offer a military discount on select items (always a plus). I was mainly in the store for gun items, but they have a little something for every outdoorsman--even have a burger joint located inside!! I'm not a sportsman, but went there to pick up an item for a colleague that he could only find at Dance's. He lives in Virginia Beach, so out of the whole Hampton Roads area, he could only find it at Dance's, which is 90 miles away! To maximize my time and long drive (Richmond was a pit stop from NC to NJ), I was meeting a friend at the nearby Denny's to kill time until they opened at 10 on a Saturday. Dance's didn't look like much from the outside, I gotta say, but by the time I walked out of Denny's at 10:15-ish, the Dance's parking lot was PACKED. They seem to have everything a sportsman could possibly be looking for! If you happen to just be picking something up like I did, don't wait in the front register line! Ask another associate, who will probably grab your item from the back. My item was blasting caps for a Scouting event, so maybe that's a little different than picking up fishing lures or something less explosive lol. But that's how it worked in my situation. Their hamburgers are some of the best !!! Dance's has a Pawn shop, it's towards the back . This is a family owned business that started in a small building that was connected to their mothers Dance Studio in Petersburg. They have a great reporr with the people in the community. The 2 brothers still work here throughout the week . The staff is unique . They are all avid sportsmen so the knowledge is top notch at Dance's. They know and have used the products they sell . Visiting my son in Dinwiddie, he had been telling me about a sporting goods shop he wanted to take me to, so we finally made it a point to go. Located in a strip mall, Dance's is unassuming from the outside, but they pack a lot into an overall surprisingly large space. My son was there to ask them to help replace a trigger on his AR-15, which they did free of charge. I walked around and looked at their offerings but kept being drawn to the handgun counter. Something unusual happened in this Petersburg gun store that evades gun stores in the NoVA area; the workers wanted to help me, and they were friendly while doing it. I was obviously not the only one who noticed this because this area was very well staffed and, even then, still had a patron per staff member most of the time I was there. I was interested in a subcompact for concealed carry and was able to hold all of the brands that I had researched. I finally settled on the one that felt best in my grip after asking to hold about 10 pistols.. I asked if they had a used one, and luckily, they did. A barely used model that knocked the price way down. Purchasing was very easy, and the background checks were rapid. I would not hesitate to return here for any firearm purchases, and for me, it is worth the drive to receive the type of service we did. read more

1 Lonely Star... Store has a decent selection, but unfortunately the Gun Counter's Service is atrocious. Most Gun Store counters are plagued with that one "God Complex Gun Guru" seeming to only be there to sell you the idea that they know everything. Customer Service even over the phone is Horrible... even calling to check on the status of an FFL transfer seems to be frowned upon. I own many firearms and I have never experienced a more unprofessional Gun Counter. 1 star never shopping there again. read more

I have been shopping at Dance's since the 80's...and even before when they had just a little shop with mostly fishing tackle. I bought my first pistol at their Walnut Hill location in 1994. They have always been great folks and always had everything you needed and then some. I am most impressed by their customer service. Just a few days ago (June 2021) I had an issue with a pistol I purchased. Seems it came with a 14 round magazine. So when I went to pick it up from my Maryland dealer the magazines had been confiscated by the dealer. I asked him if he could just trade me for a legal magazne and of course he said no. So I called Dance's and it took a few emails but they sent a return shipping label to Maryland dealer and when they received the 14 rd magazines back, they mailed me two 10 rounder and it was all solved. In these days we live in, it is rare to ACTUALLY recieve GREAT customer service. It is a great place, with great people, inventory, prices and ownership!!! Mathews archery customer service referred me here, stating they are a gold status dealer and the best in the fort lee area. They did warranty work on my bow, limb replacements with 6 days (including weekend and parts to come in) down time. On top of that they returned the bow to factory specs, tuned it and assisted me in sighting it in at 20 yards (along with some knowledge and tips/pointers). Dances Sporting Goods has proven to be a solid sporting goods vendor to the local area of colonial heights. The staff is courteous and helpful and that is a lot to ask for in this day and age with the labor shortage. Their lunch menu is priced as more than reasonable. Yesterday, my spouse and I went there to buy a firearm for each of us. The folks there were cordial and friendly, busy and business like. And we arrived right after they opened. The thing I noticed was the parking lot and store was packed. We dropped a nice chunk of change there and everybody was friendly and all. But, the thing that hit us loud and clean was that they weren't following the COVID-19 guidelines at all! People at the gun counter were shoulder to shoulder, in the check out line too! Went in here twice. I can't say that the staff is rude since the ONLY person that talked to me was one I tracked down to ask an archery question. Yes, that is one person I had to hunt down after two trips. Spent alot of time at the counter looking at there long and short guns however. They have a great selection of new and used firearms. They also have an OK selection of ammo. If you are looking to buy however they make Bass Pro look like Walmart. I have never seen used guns sold for more than MSRP NIB!! Waste the gas and drive to Short Pump and go to Bass Pro or Green Top. The wasted gas will be worth the drive. read more
