My daughter takes ballet lessons at Dance Loft of 14 on Saturday mornings and absolutely loves it. The studio just staged a 2-night run of "The Nutcracker" which was both fantastic and happened to feature my daughter. I gave up two very expensive tickets to The Kennedy Center in order to attend and I can now say I absolutely made the right choice. They must have done an amazing job of teaching and coaching my daughter because she did very well in her roles and loved every second of it. In addition to all the children, it was thrilling to see the many adult ballerinas and up close... it was thrilling for my daughter to be on stage with them. I am grateful to the Dance Loft on 14 for the time, attention, and instruction they provide to my daughter, and also for two marvelous nights of "The Nutcracker".

Exterior is rough, but I prefer to imagine it's my Broadway audition!

The first year, we took our kids to the Bethesda school since the Petworth location was already booked. We planned ahead for this summer and booked our kids at the Petworth school. Both locations had the same high quality of instruction. We have somewhat shy kids, and both locations really helped them gain that confidence to perform. We also really like that the schools are bi-lingual. We have been teaching our kids Spanish, and like that they continue to get this language integrated into their daily learning. The school offers a wide range of classes. The first year, the class was more about modern dance and hip hop (by the way, hilarious with 4 year-olds). This past class, was tap dancing (again, pretty entertaining). This is one of the better summer camps. I can tell my kids love it, even if when I ask them, they only give me 2 word responses like, "It's good!"

Let me give you the run down: Booking online is made so easy through MindBody. If you're like me and love group fitness or activities, the app is the best way to add, modify, and delete sessions from your calendar. When purchasing the monthly pass, (which was only $90 for the first time!), you'll be able to select any session that piques your interest and directly add it to your digital calendar. Upon arrival, the friendly receptionists will get you signed in and tell you which studio you're in. You can wait in that seating area for a moment if you are early, or head right on in and use the cubbies for storing your items. Literally my ONLY recommendation to the team would be for the receptionists to share where the bathroom is located... It took me until the second session (the same night) to realize it was behind the door at the back of the Studio A. My first class was Dance Fitness with Mario Cervantes. The class was nothing short of awesome. He had such a radiant and contagious energy that got the whole class moving in this full-body cardio session. My tip for newbies: take plenty of water, take a small towel (you WILL be sweating), and take advantage of when he changes the song. It was soooo fun. And the proof is in the pudding: I burned 700+ calories in 45 minutes. My second class was immediately after with Richard Gil. This was Tier I. Intro to Bachata. The class size was on the smaller size, so the teacher and his assistant were able to provide professional and detailed corrections to our movements and technique. While I still had lots of fun, it was clear that Richard cares about how his students learn and apply proper bachata principles. I really appreciated this welcoming, uplifting, and constructive atmosphere! My third class (yes, in the same night! I was wore out) was Tier I. Intro to Salsa, which was back with Mario. The class size was bigger, so there was less individualized instruction, but the energy was again incredibly engaging. He used humor, passion, and experience to get everyone moving towards the correct Salsa movements and techniques. Overall, a really wonderful experience. I'm super excited to have something to look forward to each week and will definitely be adding onto this review as I engage with more teachers and take more classes!

Today was Day 5 of the Dancing in the DMV. This institute also shares their lovely space as a daycare/summer camp for the neighborhood children. The institute has been home of some of DC's elite dancers who gone on to train at Alvin Ailey American Dance Center. The staff were welcoming and the faculty was very clean. Restrooms fully stocked and smelling fresh because that's so important. There are a set of elevators if someone is unable to take the stairs. Beautiful inside. Nestled right in the park rd area of uptown DC. There's a parking garage located at 3100 14th street, one block up from the institute. Very reasonably priced and takes the worry out of getting a ticket.

I'm somebody who believes that my instructor should be GREAT b/c it shows me, very tangibly and visually, what to strive for. If I'm supposed to mimic you and I am not impressed with your skills, that is not at all good. You can't tell me how to be great, you have to show me. We did some barre work and then put together a short routine. While it was quite chill and all levels are welcome, it wasn't what I was looking for. I'm looking for rigor. I'm looking for someone to point out all my flaws, make me stronger, and improve my form so that I can be a better aerialist. I want great lines, stronger muscles, and to become a better performer. I don't see that at all happening with that ballet class. If you're looking for something easy and chill, then this is probably a fine ballet class. I might be interested in taking the hip hop class or something else, but I'd rather sell off my pass. All that being said, would anyone like to buy my pass from me? Seriously. $40 for 6 classes or best offer.

Down a long, narrow corridor, you enter a dark room with neon florescent paint. The dumbbells are neon, spaces on the floor are neon, paint on the wall is neon. The you notice the best playlists you can think of blasting in the background. This place works for me because I kinda hate working out but I do it out of discipline and for my health. The workouts here are fun and with the lights down low, I can move this jelly with no reservations. (not belly, jelly, you know the lose parts from the neck down? ) The environment is motivating and I see results from the workouts. However, I moved and since I had been missing this place but I always keep in touch with Coach G via stalking on IG because he's so sweet. Well Coronavirus hit. I was home. All gyms are closed. And I was thinking dang- how will I survive without any exercise?!? Boom! That's when I saw Coach G's post about "Sweat Anywhere. No Gym. No Problem." I quickly reached out, signed up (small monthly fee), and just like that I had access to live workouts with the same great trainers at the gym (shouts to Aaron, Sarah, Nazinga, & Stephen) and the lovely people who go there. 30min-40min classes of all kinds are available: HITT, boxing, strength, yoga, Barre, hip-hop step, etc. If I can't make the class live, no problem I have access to the video anytime. Instantly, I was hooked taking multiple classes per week and looking forward to actually seeing someone for a change. Fast forward a month on Sweat Anywhere and Coach G has added more items to this platform: guest trainers, doctors to answer questions, food discussions, happy hours, etc. This has become an all around health and wellness platform for me during this time. It's also given the me the chance to take classes I haven't tried before like Barre. I can take the fee classes from the nationwide companies but Coach G and his employees live in my community. I'd rather support this local business during this tough time. Besides the support they are giving me has exceeded what I expected when I signed up for access to classes. So looking forward to going back to their night club studio some day.

I signed up for the one week trial and had a great time! I was only able to attend four classes,…read morebut enjoyed each one. The instructors were really helpful and gave me some modification options. It would probably help to have some background knowledge of common lifts, but the instructors show the movements and they play on video screens if you need it. Everyone attending was generally in their own zone, so there isn't a lot of chatting because you really focus on getting the exercises done in the set times. I will say that the classes go by super quickly because you're always moving. Cons: The programming is set for the whole month. So each day of the week has its set program and you do that each week for the whole month. For me, this would get old (I really need variety). On the plus side, it does mean you get to see active gains throughout the month. The membership plan is a little pricey. I get why it costs so much, since they do have to cover rent and you only really attend during the class sessions. It isn't a type of gym where you just drop in when you want to use certain equipment. The unlimited monthly membership is $299, but in reality you are getting 30 or 31 classes depending on the month. Since the classes are the same all day, it is unlikely you would do two classes in a day, right? So the pricing is about $10/class if you do the unlimited monthly pass and you go every day. Some of the equipment was pretty smelly. I was at one station that honestly made me gag a little... I think the bench or maybe the dumbells had never been thoroughly cleaned with a bleach solution.

We had premium box seats with in-seat service, which allowed us to place orders throughout the show; my husband and our friends took advantage of that convenience. Other amenities at the concert hall include a lounge with a full-service bar that opens 90 minutes before showtime and is exclusive to guests for the first hour. There is also a rooftop area, available for select performances, that offers impressive views of the Capital, along with merchandise available for purchase. A quick note for visitors: small bags up to 12" x 6" x 12" are permitted, and all bags are searched prior to entry. The theater itself is beautiful--its decor always gives me a jazz-era renaissance vibe that adds to the atmosphere. Recently, I came to see Lalah Hathaway and Robert Glasper, and while the show itself was great, the acoustics for live music were unfortunately not. From where I was seated, it was difficult to clearly hear the vocals, which took away from the performance. The venue itself is stunning and has hosted some memorable shows for me, but based on this experience, it seems better suited for theater and dance performances than for certain live music concerts. Despite the sound issues, I still enjoyed the show as much as I could and would return for the right performance.
