My boyfriend and I took lessons with Jen for 2 years. We mainly learned Waltz, Cha Cha, and Tango,…read morebut we also learned some basics of Viennese Waltz, Rumba, Foxtrot and several Latin dances. She holds 2 dance shows a year: one in the winter at the clubhouse in her neighborhood which is mainly to show parents and family where you're at in your practice with a few routines, and then another in the spring that's at AACC and more of a full on dance show. Jen works with all different types of people, from kids age 4 or so to adults in retirement. She's wonderful with kids, we've seen her interact with them after our classes ended and at the dance shows. She not only teaches Ballroom and Latin to teenagers and adults, but she teaches kids ballet, tap and hip hop. It's amazing the skillset she has. She takes her ballroom/latin students to competitions and trains them to test for different levels. We never did any of that as we mainly just wanted to learn for fun and to be able to dance together, but it was very tempting sometimes as we learned more! We tried out two different dance studios before deciding to go here because we really liked her teaching style. And if you're not understanding something, she will give you different ways to think of it and have you focus on certain areas rather than the whole picture to help you commit different areas to muscle memory, whether it be your arms, your hips, your feet, etc. before moving onto another area. I used to do social dance in college and I was never taught how to make those hips sway in that suave way in Latin dances. I just thought I had to shake my butt, but Jen finally cracked the code for me! Not that I'm amazing at it, but I now know how it works! I could write about this academy for days, but all in all, it's an amazing school and Jen is a wonderful teacher. I would recommend her to anyone.

The concert we attended was a performance of the Peabody Symphony Orchestra. It was free, in the beautiful Miriam A Friedberg Concert Hall, and wonderful overall. It's a gorgeous venue and location for a classical music concert, and the Peabody musicians are so talented. The concert was wonderful. I'm planning on attending concerts in the future! What a wonderful place to hear classical music in the city! If you like/love classical music, want to support the Peabody students, or are in the area and want to try something new, check out their concerts and events page and take in a concert! Enrolled my child into the Moana camp. She raves about it the first day, but her mood changed…read moreafter the next. She is 3 1/2 so trying to understand if there was a problem was difficult. The staff also didn't really communicate at all, about how children were doing or anything like that. They also didn't introduce themselves...that really bothered me. It was a big let down for me, especially since parents were not allowed in. At the end of the day my child I think had an okay time. We were fortunate that she was visible during the Zoom link but I will echo others, if your kid was not in frame you were basically SOL for the recording because they only emailed one view , not both. Now the other issues I have are safety related. They leave the door unlocked during class and slightly open because it doesn't close all the way. There was NO system in place to make sure people picking up children were authorized too. ZERO verification. In this day in age that really bothered me. So I made sure to wait in the parking lot during snack to make sure my child was safe and was there in the building prior to class ending. Finally, they pulled the masking requirements the last two days of camp and told my child the day before they were allowed to go maskless. I really did not appreciate this. I wanted to speak to my child. Based on this conversation she was under the impression they weren't allowed to mask and trying to explain to her that wasn't accurate was not happening. Staff should respect family choices and not discuss things like that with children too young to comprehend the risk. All in all, we won't be back, but I wouldn't say don't go. There were clearly repeat kids that enjoyed it. I will say, we found a dance school closer to our home and my kid LOVES it, so clearly something at Davy Dance was amiss for her. Without being able to attend the sessions I will never know what that was for her, that made her clearly not enjoy it as much toward the end.
