Subaru is like Volvo, do the factory recommend service...or have issues down the road. We've had our Forrester for 2 years now, they've been perfectly fine. Issue one was leaking oil from spark plug hole, fixed under warranty and no-charge loaner car. Second issue recently was finding a bad battery during oil change, replaced with new one. Under warranty. Sales guys and Finance guys, same as any other dealership, though better than Toyota, etc. These guys own Honda Westport, have owned Hondas for 20 (3 diff cars) years from them, never an issue when it came to service. Knew a friend that tapped into their lifetime warranty. 10 year old Outback needed new tranny, repaired no questions asked... read more

Father in law took my 2009 Subaru Forester to get an issue checked out. The issue was some pretty intense shuddering when driving at low speeds and turning. Subarus recommendation was to replace the entire transmission. I went around to some other shops and got similar feedback. Turns out... it was the differential fluid. A couple hours of research pointed to the old differential fluid building up and not lubricating effectively, causing the shuddering. Perkins quoted me $6k for a new transmission. Issue fixed for $80 of fluid. read more

Called TWICE about bringing my Subaru in to have the tire light turned off after having tires replaced elsewhere. BOTH service advisors assured me that they could do that there for me WITHOUT an appointment. Drove 30 minutes one way to get there only to be told that I would have to make an appointment to bring the car in and that likely the sensor or sensors would have to be replaced for a significant fee. After driving here to get my heat fixed I was refused service and the tall guy with a light brown beard tells me after waiting all day that they wont fix my heat unless I paid for an expensive detail. They could have told me that while I waited. They could have done it just as another shop did because my car was perfectly clean. I suspect they wanted to get more money out of me after buying the car here and being a loyal customer I was shocked to be refused service. Now I am having trouble getting into premier subaru because I did not buy my vehicle there. Had a really weird experience. The service attendee wouldn't address me (it was my car being serviced) and only addressed my boyfriend. At the beginning of the service I tried to let them know about an issue and was brushed off. At the end of the service I had asked if they did or if they recommended anyone for cosmetic fixes and I was brushed off again. I would have paid to have it all done there! Not sure I'd go back, probably just make the drive to Danbury again since the Subaru places around here aren't the most helpful. read more

On 1/19/26 I came in for an oil change and tire rotation for my 2019 Subaru Outback. While in the waiting room I braced myself that I'd be told additional recommended services would be found and need immediate attention. Dan Perkins service didn't disappoint. 4 services were recommended totaling $3,536.80 in addition to what I came in for. Two of the four items on the service estimate said "customer states", which is not true. I was also told my car wouldn't start when the technician came to get my car out of the bay and needed to be jumped - thus the service of needing a new battery was recommended. I told Nicol, my service advisor of the day, I haven't had any issues with my car not starting ever and suddenly when I've brought my car in for an oil change, it miraculously wouldn't start. She tried to scare me by saying well I hope you have jumper cables in case it doesn't start again. Not buying it. I was sent an email to review my experience and I told them everything. I heard nothing from DP service. I was also sent an email to give my experience to corporate. I gave the same information about my experience. It wasn't until then that the DP service manager called saying he was disappointed that I didn't give them a chance to make things right. He claimed he called and left a message after my first review, which was absolutely false and I told him I never received a call/message otherwise I would have returned his call. I asked when he called and he couldn't give me an answer. I told him I save all calls and voicemails and had nothing from him. He was disappointed because my corporate review brought their weekly or monthly ratings down. Oh well. He didn't do a thing for me except tell me to always ask for him when I come in with my car. Lol. No thanks. Shady dealings over there. I used to like them but now, not a fan. I will not bring my car back there. read more

I booked an appointment for 8:30a (online) for a standard oil change on my 2021 Crosstrek. Got to the dealership at 8:17a. Only 1 other car behind me. Was met by Daniel who was friendly and asked if it was my first time there and I replied yes. He then says that he is new and to bear with him which is fine. After he gets my info he tells me that the info goes into their system and will text me with updates. He also mentions that they will notify me of any additional services that I may need and that I could decline them. I told him I would wait for my car at their waiting room. He directs me to the waiting room. Upon going in there, the place is very spacious and clean. There was about 10 people sitting there but again plenty of seating for people. Around 45min, I notice that new customers are coming in and actually leaving before me. I look at my phone and there was no notification so I texted Daniel to see how much longer it would take for my oil change to be finished. 2 min later a text arrives to ask me if I wanted to do 2 services that they recommend (the cost would be over $500) so I declined it for now. I assumed that they would finish up and get me on my way but after 1.5 hours of waiting, I send another email as to when the oil change would be done and 10min later Daniel shows up and apologizes for the wait. He kept giving me excuses of how they got bombarded with cars and that he will get my car done right away. He also stated that he did a tire rotation and told me that we won't charge and won't put it on the invoice which I thought was very suspicious and absolutely false. Why would anyone do a service without the permission of the owner of the vehicle. Now I don't trust Daniel and anything he is saying. Positives: Clean, friendly, and spacious location. Negatives: Not being attentive (especially to a first time customer at the location); too many excuses rather than rectifying the situation; and not compensating the customer for almost 2 hours of time wasted while other customers have come and gone; not the best first impression of a business. Overall: Although the establishment was nice, friendly, and close to home; I don't know if I will be returning to this dealership for future services. read more

Everything always goes well here. Salesperson Uziel is my favorite. He's a really great guy. Service person Jose greeted me in such a way that made my day. Melissa Marie as well, very kind. Overall, this location is, far and away, the best car dealership I've ever been to in my 38 years of driving. I'm serious, nobody else even comes remotely close. My car was misdiagnosed or something was fixed that wasn't broken, the issue returned shortly after and they weren't accountable. I didn't have a good experience and was so stressed. They also didn't have the loaner cars they advertise. I went to premier Subaru instead and they were great! Even got my issues to be fixed under warranty (Dan Perkins didn't even try) and had a loaner to use while they fixed it. They were willing to go the extra mile for my Subaru. read more

Beware of the car salesman who goes by the name Edison!! And the Used Car Sales Manager! The car I was interested in had just been listed that day on Autotrader. I called Edison and told him I was very interested and we set up an appointment. I immediately got an email and a text both confirming that appointment. I called back about an hour later and said that I was going to come in sooner because I was "extremely" interested in the car. They gave him the message and again I got an email and a text confirming the appointment. I left work early and drove an hour to get there. I was on time for my appointment. Edison finished a phone call and came over to me, greeted me by name and calmly told me he already took a deposit for the car I was interested in. I understand that cars get sold to the first person with cash in their hands. That's not my complaint. I should've been called. They have multiple ways to contact me. Why did they let me drive an hour for no reason at all. And believe me, he knew I was an hour away. When I questioned it, he said he was sorry, but he had an "even better" car for me! I said OK how much is that car? That's what he told me it was 50% more than the car I was interested in!! 50% more? He knew all the time that he was going to lure me in and do a bait and switch. Extremely poor customer service! I wasn't born yesterday. Once you lose my trust, you lose me as a customer. I asked to speak to the sales manager. I was brought over to the used car sales manager. I told him what I was feeling and he said he would make up for it and still wanted to sell me the bait and switch car, this time for only 20% more than I had intended to pay!! My son recently purchased a used Forester from this dealer. After a few weeks the check engine light came on, our regular mechanic diagnosed the issue as a bad catalytic converter. He also told us that there's a recall on this unit that involves replacing the converter and reprogramming the ECM and it is still open on his car's VIN. However, someone had replaced the original converter with an aftermarket one that subsequently failed. My son called this dealer to address this. They knew about the open recall but admitted they didn't fix it because of the aftermarket converter. At the time of sale they did not disclose any of this and he was also assured this car would pass emissions inspection (it will not without a major and costly repair). In spite of knowingly selling a car with major mechanical issues, Dan Perkins Subaru refuses to honor the recall or take the car back. read more

Reached out to Dan Perkins for an issue with not being able to get the key out of the ignition on a 2016 impreza. We also needed an oil change. Was able to get an appointment very quickly...on a Saturday at 1:40 pm. Would you believe that by 3pm the oil was changed and the ignition key repair was completed? The ignition key fix involved removal of the center console and was not a short job. We picked up the car around 5pm and the entire experience was wonderful. I no sooner hung up the phone and received an email confirming the date and time of my appointment. The service staff were friendly and informative. Shana took in my car upon arrival and said it would take about 1.5 hours for the services. At exactly 1.5 hours I received a call that my car was ready to go. We purchased our 2019 Forester from Dan Perkins. We took it for it's first emissions test and it failed. Brought it to the service department where they accused us of changing computer codes (What?!?!?) and said it was fine and that we should just take it to another testing site. They charged a $180 diagnostic fee , which is ILLEGAL given the time frame of the purchase. They gave my wife grief over the fee. My wife presented the law to them latter, and only then did they offer to credit the fee. They said the computer codes were fixed. Omg where do I begin.. I've been warned about coming here and to stay away from the shady employees here. Let's begin... I walked in to get an appraisal for a Subaru that we wanted to sell. I located the front reception desk and asked for Shawn. I was directed to a desk in the corner near the offices. I got there and no one was present. So I waited. .. 4 min later someone asked if I was being helped which I said no and I'm waiting for someone by the name of Shawn. One of the kind people in the offices near his platformed desk paged him and said there is a customer waiting for assistance. While waiting for him to appear a sales person was very loudly expressing his frustration about working with a client. Strange .. did he not notice customers in the building. Anyways Shawn finally appeared from this hallway. And little did he know that I was watching him for another 2 mins while he busy on his phone. The steam that was coming out of my head at this point. Holy cow! So he approaches me and never once did he ask for my name. He appraises the vehicle and says in the 6 range. So he's staring and me and I'm staring at him and finally I ask well what's the offer? How are you going to say 6 range. Like are you offering 6, $6500 $6243.24 like come correct!! I have purchased two Subarus from here and it has always been a pleasant experience (as far as car buying goes). What compelled me to write a review was the experience I had today. My Subaru ascent had a flat tire and I was sitting on the side of the highway waiting for 45 minutes + with my two toddlers with me (who were well on their way to a breakdown themselves). I was waiting for someone to come help me through the Subaru roadside program without an end in sight. A man stopped behind my car, came out to me, and introduced himself as from Dan Perkins and that he was going to get someone to come fix my flat. Help arrived 10 minutes later and they fixed my flat no charge. I then drove to the dealership, only an hour before they closed on a busy saturday, and they were able to get my car in for service and get me a loaner so I could get my very crabby and hungry children home. I found out at the dealership that it was actually the son of the owner, Even Perkins, who saw me stranded from the other side of the highway, got off, came back around, and helped me. He even stayed with us (in his car) until help came. I was so touched by that, and by the help of the service manager Michael and Stanley who came out and fixed my tire. Disingenuous dealership! I utilized TrueCar to get dealer quotes for a Subaru Legacy purchase. Drove over 30 minutes to get to dealership. Handed the salesperson a printout of their offer through TrueCar, he stated they would meet the quoted sales price even though the dealership car pricing higher. Test drove the "new" car which had 11 miles on it, but had scuffs on the doors, stains on the interior ceiling, scratch on the fender, and loose door handles. Test drove another car which had 5 miles on it, but the rear wheels were not balanced and had a wobble. Salesperson assured me issues would be fixed. I spent over 2 hours at the dealership that day. Next day salesperson called to say issues were fixed, I reaffirmed that I was still interested and was prepared to buy at the quoted offer price, but Dan Perkins reneged on honoring the offer price they quoted me through TrueCar. Dealership blamed TrueCar for having a wrong price. BEWARE: Dan Perkins is a dishonorable dealership that will not honor offers they make online. Don't waste your time. Anyway it took me 3 cars and some grief to finally turn away and go to another dealership. Why ??? I really despise the process of buying a new car. The pressurized process, the wheeling and dealing, not to mention that because I am a woman I'm not taken seriously in a car dealership because what could I possibly know? But I did all my research and decided that my family needed a Subaru. The whole safety thing, and I have been pretty pleased with the vehicle. But why can't car dealers grasp that nobody likes the ridiculous car buying negotiation process? It is an ugly comedy,a and it drives people away from the dealer. Cal it the clear factor. The buying process at Dan Perkins was not terrible, but it still had the typical " negotiation" process. I think that dealers that adopt the " one price" policy are forward thinking. The service department gets mixed reviews too. They are very polite but often I call for an appointment and the phone just rings, then I get an answering machine. I need to talk to a human being. Recently I had a problem, a nonfunctional parking light, that should have, in my opinion, been a warranty item but instead was pretty expensive out of my pocket. I don't want to write this review but here we are, five months after I bought my Crosstrek at Dan Perkins still...chasing down the folks at Dan Perkins about various issues. I especially don't want to write this review because I was buying a car during a pandemic. My expectations for the car-buying process at this time were low. I expected hiccups, but I did not expect to be still talking to the folks at Dan Perkins after five months. First of all, five stars to Paul, who made the actual sale. He was kind and flexible, and he truly went above and beyond. We needed a car as the COVID-19 pandemic was ramping up and we were moving to Connecticut. Dan Perkins was the closest open dealer to us, but still a long drive away. When we settled on our car and then found out our CT plates were not ready as we were driving to the dealer from another state, Paul gave us dealer plates for a few days then personally drove to our apartment to give us our real plates. Thank you Paul. Zero stars to the finance manager Nick. It would take me thousands of words to detail all my headaches here but to sum up: I have spent hours of my life chasing responses from this man after various errors in various pieces of paperwork with my lender and the DMV. I suspect other people in other departments also screwed things up, but he's my contact. GM Avrom Sevell has also been on several of my emails to Dan Perkins and has not once reached out. To give one example: Nick made pretty clear that he was annoyed I was not financing with Dan Perkins Subaru from the start, pressing me for reasons that were none of his business. He put two different VIN numbers on that paperwork, and I got a call from my lender about it. I let Nick know. A day or two later, he then had the gall to call ME to follow up with my bank about where the dealership's money is like: 1) he hadn't *just* put incorrect info on the paperwork; 2) I was his personal secretary; 3) he didn't have a number for dealers to follow up with questions *prominently on the paperwork.* I literally just read him this number off the form. I should probably be paid for that labor. Anyway, here I am five months after buying a car and my lender still does not have my title. Nick initially told me this was because of the CT DMV being backlogged (after several calls and emails trying to reach him), and later called to tell me something got messed up on Dan Perkins' end and he "was getting it taken care of." Well, it is still not taken care of. Honestly, all of this would have been forgiven, especially during COVID-19, if Nick would have ever answered emails and phone calls, even just to say he received them and heard me. I paid a $253 registration fee and a $699 dealer fee to be assured everything would be taken care of, and frankly, think I'm due a $952 refund for this never-ending bullshit. read more

My Dan Perkins Used Car Sales update Day 1 (Sale Day!) My antenna missed this one. J.B., my salesman was so rude to my insurance agent she hung up on him. I was also told to go to my Town Hall so they could take my car off their list, only to learn this this was completed by the dealer. 1st wasted day. Day 2 - Returned for appt. to get a 2nd key made, but no key fob was ordered. Was told to return with a cheery, 'Hey, you don't work during the summer; you're a teacher!' 2nd wasted day. Day 3 - Second trip for for key. The key guy couldn't program it and the service dept. wasn't picking up J.B.'s call. He said, "Hey Sue, can you go over there, they're not picking up my phone." Day 3 - No, I can't 3rd wasted day. (Can i get you some coffee?). Can you come back on Monday? Day 4 - No, I can't. I'm driving to service and they'd better fix this today. We have two 2015 Subaru's that have always been maintained by Dan Perkins. The first, a Forester, with 135K and the other a Legacy, with 99k. Both started to have the low oil light pop up a few months apart, so we brought both in to have them checked. Since no visible leaks could be found, they decided to do a oil consumption test. Both vehicles failed this test and Dan Perkins says that they are not covered by their lifetime warranty. We were told to contact Subaru and see if they would help us with repairing the Forester, and we were given an estimate of almost $6,500 to repair the Legacy, Dan Perkins says neither one of them qualifies for their lifetime warranty, which includes powertrain, which should include the engine. We have purchased three vehicles from these people, had them do any and all maintenance and repairs, and now they won't stand behind their warranty. It pains me to give them one star, but If the problem was with only one car I could call it an anomaly, but with two cars it seems that there's a issue with this engine. I almost forgot to mention that they did rebuild the foresters engine when it had about 15-20K, due to excessive oil use, but that cost was under warranty paid for by Subaru not Dan Perkins. read more

I initially went to another local Subaru dealer and wasn't happy with the discussion. My experience here was different- I got Tony Sotaro when I was calling to ask about availability. He was professional and efficient on the call. I was able to come see the car I wanted, and even though he was moving around helping multiple customers at once when I got there, my experience was seamless. There was no awkward haggling, and I felt I got a better price here than at the other dealership. Tony even responded to my email question late in the evening, off hours. The saddest part about my review is that they know what happened and they know I'm upset yet NOONE from management has contacted me like the desk clerk told me they would. I had a recall on my car and when they installed the third brake light, they (forgot?) to calibrate my brakes so I drove home (20 miles away) with my brakes engaged the whole time. The car rattled and smelled of burnt rubber. I drove back to the shop (another 20 miles), again car rattling on the highway, rubber burning, etc. and although they "fixed" it right away, they offered no explanation as to why that happened and what toll it took on my brakes and tires to travel 40 miles with my brakes engaged the whole time. My salesman, Marc made car shopping fun, exciting, and stress free. Marc has a happy laid back personality that made me feel relaxed. Marc's knowledge about the different models, trims, and safety features made me sure that I was making the right choice by buying my first Subaru. Marc kept in communication with me from our test drive to delivery without being pushy or annoying like many other dealerships I've dealt with in the past. I worked with Michelle in the finance department and she was kind, funny, and very empathetic. My daughter took her car here for service recently. During that visit, she was told she needed a new battery ($500) and front brakes and rotors ($650). Thankfully, she declined both. While the battery did need replacing, I was able to do it for half the price. My real issue pertained to the front brakes. Since their brake pad measuring gauge indicated the color red, my daughter was told that her front brakes were completely worn out. We subsequently took her car to Brake Centers of America in Bridgeport and the manager, Emilio, did another inspection of her front brakes. This time the pad-life measuring gauge tested yellow (indicating caution). Emilio said my daughter could probably go another couple of months without a problem. Since we were there, and she had the time, she decided to get them replaced, and did so at a much more affordable price. Based on the less-than-transparent business practices of this service center, we will no longer be bringing our vehicles here. read more

I bought a used car from Dan Perkins in October 2021. It's the worst experience I've had in my life. I was a first time customer in 1999 and came back to lease a vehicle in 2018 which I am very happy with. When looking for a first car for my son, I trusted Dan Perkins to sell me a reliable used vehicle ...which I purchased. A 2011 Subaru Impreza with 158k miles. Carfax was good, Dan Perkins ensured it me was a safe, solid car. Shortly after bringing it home, I found it was not such a good car. Realizing buying used is a risk, I thought I'd fix it. It started with the battery. I had the car 2 months and had to replace it for $200! Then in February 2022, all lights went on and the car wouldn't run. I had called Dan Perkins Used Auto Sales department about the issues and they said I bought it "as is" and would try to help find me someone to service the car. They never called back. I towed it to a mechanic for diagnosis and then to a Transmission Specialist. The specialist replaced the Transmission Control Module for $1200.00. After replacing the TCM, I now saw an electrical problem. The mechanic checked it out and said it might be a harness connection. This must have been a fluke as it hasn't returned...yet. At this point, I thought I was done. No chance! The car was leaking oil..most likely from the valve covers and I decided to fix it. While under the hood, I noticed a frayed belt. Back to the mechanic to replace the Alternator belt for $137.00. Dan Perkins Service didn't notice this? So early this month my son said there was noise from the wheels. Turns out the brakes were bad. Another $850.00! Dan Perkins Service didn't notice this either? We only put 2000 miles on this since purchasing! Two calipers were shot and of course all pads needed replacing. And now there's a transmission leak. I'm done. I'm totally disgusted. My son is very disappointed and I feel like I've been misled. I my opinion, I think the car should not have been on the lot for sale. The car is now worthless since a new transmission costs more than the book value and I lost a lot of money with nothing to show for it. I will NEVER purchase from Dan Perkins again. read more
