I had 10 older wooden porch windows wrapped in mid-May 2021. The initial consultation and job set…read moreup was fantastic. Deonte Hill (note that he has left three of the 5 star reviews for his own company on Google) was pleasant and assured me that they could do the job no problem.  It has been a headache ever since.  Now all I want is a refund for the job or for it to be completed correctly and the way the contract states.  Wood replaced.  Metal sheeting cut correctly.  Caulk applied professionally. On the day work began, Deonte called to ask if the subcontractor had started. He had. Deonte was disappointed because (paraphrasing) "these guys charge us a lot so I was going to try to send another team to do the job."  Why are you telling the customer that?   The wood framing of a few of the windows is rotten/missing in some areas.  The signed contract states that all necessary wood would be replaced as part of the job. That didn't happen. None of the wood was replaced. The subcontractors who did the work told me several times that they could've done a better job if they had replaced the rotted boards, so I assume that no one at the company told them that the wood should have been replaced prior to wrapping the windows.  I don't know if this company was trying to pull one over on me so they could save money or if they truly forgot to communicate to the subcontractors that the boards needed to be replaced. The second major issue is that the caulking that was done is insanely sloppy.  It is so heavy and caked on in some areas that even now, three full months later, it has still not dried & cured.  In a few spots, the caulk detached completely and this is when we learned that the metal sheeting wasn't even cut to the correct size to fit the windows leaving 1/2 inch gaps between pieces. Their solution was to pump tons of caulk into the gaps to hide them. It never dried and I assume rainwater got behind/underneath it and that's why the caulk came off. I notified the company of the sloppy caulk immediately after the job was done and they sent the subcontractors back out to address it.  After they were out, it still looked awful. So they came out again. Same issue, plus now their ladder pushed in some of the brand new siding I had installed a month prior to this job. Deonte came out after the second attempted fix and said he saw and agreed that there were still problem spots.  He called the subcontractor on speaker phone, right then and there, and told him that the issue wasn't fixed.  Subcontractor said they could come out again, but they'd be charging Five Star Exteriors again or docking the worker's pay.  After the call, Deonte said they were likely going to be losing money on this job.  WHY ARE YOU TELLING THE CUSTOMER THIS?  In an attempt to make me feel guilty so that I'll drop the issue? After that, it suddenly became my fault that the job wasn't done correctly because they said they told me the storm windows needed to be taken down.  NO ONE TOLD ME THAT. Absolutely no one.  Never.  It's not written in the contract, nothing.  We could have easily removed the storm windows prior to the job start date had someone told us that's what needed to be done. I was then told to contact "Pat" via text (he's higher up in the company, I guess?).  At first he was responsive and agreed to schedule a time to come out.  Now, two months later, he won't respond to my numerous attempts to schedule. At first I thought they were taking advantage of me because I'm a single woman homeowner, but now that I've read other reviews on Google and on the Better Business Bureau website, I see that their M.O. is to blame customers when something goes wrong on a job instead of taking responsibility and fixing the work. Again, all I'm looking for at this point is a refund or for the job to be completed correctly.  I'll be more than happy to update my review here and on the Better Business Bureau page if that happens.

Recommendation for Corbin Exteriors…read more Last fall, we undertook a major outdoor renovation project on our home, and I can say without hesitation that working with Corbin Exteriors -- and specifically Nathan Corbin -- was one of the best contractor experiences we've ever had. From day one, Nathan's attention to detail and proactive communication set the tone for a smooth, efficient, and high-quality build. The scope included James Hardie siding, a class 4 impact-resistant roof, gutters and protectors, general contractor for modern electrical improvements, custom steel eyebrow roofs, and even on-the-fly repairs to exterior walls that were uncovered during the process. Every challenge was met with a solution, not a delay. Nathan personally oversaw the transition from brick to Wisconsin stone, ensuring the aesthetic and structural integrity of the home stayed intact. His team worked cleanly, respectfully, and with a level of precision that's rare in large-scale exterior work. The project came in on time, on budget, and without a hitch -- a testament to Nathan's leadership and the caliber of Corbin Exteriors. I would recommend them without reservation to anyone looking for premium craftsmanship and a partner who truly cares about the outcome. Sincerely, Shannon Phipps Woodbury, MN

We had contracted Nielsen Remodeling to do a rather larger home/kitchen remodel which included…read morereplacing front and rear entry doors. We were excited to get the project underway, and anxious to see the new rear entry glass door and storm door the afternoon we returned from work. That excitement turned to disappointment when we saw the finished work. The two rear entry doors were installed, but from the exterior of the home, there was a 1/2" gap left all around the entire storm door where the vinyl siding was cut back too far. I could actually see the wood framing between the gap and knew rain and snow would be a problem, not to mention it simply looked horrendous. Further, the storm door had been damaged during installation. I called Dan and asked if he was finished and if this was the final product. He said that it was finished and I said that something had to be done, as I could see the framing of the house from 10 feet away. He suggested caulking the gap, but I told him I was not going to accept a thick gob of caulk all around the outside of the door . He said that we bought a cheap door and it was damaged before he installed it. I reminded him that I inspected both doors before installation and they were fine. And that both rear entry doors cost $1200. so they were not cheap doors. And even if they had been previously damaged, why would you install them damaged?? He then said that I gave him the wrong measurements. I reminded him that he came over by my request to verify the measurements and they were in fact his. He then said that the door was done and that's all he was gonna do, because that's all we paid for. By now, I know I am getting the run around and I am getting angry. I told him that for a $450 for door installation, I would expect much more than as a shoddy unfinished job. I then asked that he stop over to look at it with me, and he refused and hung up on me. About two hours later I got a text message stating that he would be back in the morning to fix it. The next day when I came home, he had repaired the damage he did to the storm door, replaced the ridiculously over-sized wood sash and repaired the gaps around the door with siding that matched the house. I was quite pleased and called to thank him but had to leave a voice mail message. He was to replace the front doors the next day, but kept giving my wife excuses as to why he couldn't stay on schedule. After two weeks, he calls and tells us he is done and then began to threaten to take us to court if we didn't pay for the rear door installation. I told him that we didn't get a bill for the work, but did send a check to his home two days earlier. I then told him that if he quits, that it would leave us another 2 to 3 weeks to get on another contractors schedule. his exact words were; "You should have thought of that before you complained" . In closing, his backing out of the job left my family without a kitchen for an additional 5 weeks until we were able to get another contractor to complete the work. Very unprofessional and full of excuses to his own shortcomings. I cannot recommend this company for any home remodel.
