We had Dan come and replace an outdated toilet for a ADA toilet, to make the quality of life easier for Grandma. The old toilet only 15" in height, was a task for Grandma to sit and stand. Dan installed a 17" bowl height toilet, and we have a 2" high bidet on it adding it to just shy of a 20" toilet seat height. Dan came in, assessed the job, and went right to work. He's definitely the guy, as he assembled, installed and operated to ensure no issues. Dan was right on time, was great about prepping his area where he was working and cleaned up nicely. This is overdue but I have to change my rating from a 5 star to a 1 star after issues that I had with a leak from my toilet installation leading to drywall ceiling damages and Dan being non-responsive during this time. It was a slow lead discovered by another plumber that I had to hire to fix the leak because Dan did not follow-up with any communication through either text or phone which I had requested. If any of you know when you call Dan's cell (that's the only way to contact him) he may answer the phone but always leaves a voice message to tell you that the best way to reach him is to leave a text message as "pretty much your voice mail will not get a response"...That being said you would expect Dan to either call you back or text you back which I had none. I discovered the leak on Friday night (at the time not knowing the exact source of the leak except that it was leaking from the newly installed toilet installation from Dan. I left a message for him to call me and to ask if he would be able to take a look next day Saturday since his hours are 8:00 am to noon and to let me know either way so I could look for other plumbers to resolve the leak in the event he was not able to come. I also, left a text message as well. I did not hear from him with either a call or text, so I called at 8:00 am on Sat and every 1/2 hour there after hoping he would respond which he didn't. I reached out to another YELP plumber, and he was able to service me and discovered that the leak was from either the new water supply line (supplied by Dan) was defective or was not tighten enough at the toilet tank, which led to a slow drip down to my downstairs ceiling. The leak was eventually fixed by the plumber after doing some troubleshooting, but my ceiling was damaged and needed to dry out over several days to prevent mold from growing. I continued to call and text Dan on Sun, Mon with no response, when on Tuesday he finally answered. I told him about the leak and damage but WHY he did not bother or have the courtesy to call back and/or text back knowing I had a leak because of his work? I mentioned I was contemplating filing a complaint to BBB and DCCA about his business practice of not responding and that triggered him to go into a raging fit with "F-Bombs" and telling me to go ahead with filing a frivolous complaint because DCCA would assess me $500 for filing a false claim which I know would never happen, but I found his threat ironic, since I initially gave Dan a 5 star review and recommended his service to others? He later texted me and offered to send his handyman to repair my ceiling, but I declined to have further contact with someone who failed to communicate by either phone and/or text back to a customer who gave him a 5-star rating and recommended his service and starts throwing out "F-Bombs" at them? Coincidentally, right after my unfortunate incident during 11/8-11/12, there were a couple of complaints 1-star incidents around the same time and now "Dan Does Plumbing" is temporarily close until November 11, 2025, yet there is a holiday schedule for Dec 2024 and an active business hour of operation on his Yelp Page? Dan's Business phone still works so despite the Yelp site saying it's temporarily closed, so I believe Dan is still taking on plumbing work and if so, I cannot recommend him to anyone. Service 10 May 2021 I contacted Dan Does Plumbing late on the evening of mother's day (Sunday 9th May) and early the following morning I had a response inquiring if I still needed service. Yelp indicated that I was communicating with the business owner, Daniel. I acknowledged that I still needed service so we exchanged a few messages on Yelp. He provided his phone number then asked me to text him a message with images of the toilet that needed service; I did and he responded promptly to those messages. After sending the images, Daniel informed me that he would be able to stop by my house later than same day. The time was convenient for me so I agreed. He also provided a quote which he informed me was for parts and services. I felt the price was reasonable but I expected it to change once the work was done (in my experience, some estimated quotes over the phone are just that, estimated quotes). Fast forward to later that day when my service was scheduled. I didn't hear from Daniel so I just assumed he was busy, it happens so I was not too worried. About 30-45 minutes after the scheduled time, I received a phone call asking for directions.. Turns out the GPS took him on the other side of town. Since I was inside, I was unaware that his coworker was already outside waiting for Daniel to arrive. Apparently his GPS sent him elsewhere too but he eventually found my house. When Daniel finally arrived, him and his coworker got straight to work. They immediately identified the problem and within a few minutes and a few flushes, had my toilet working like new. Previously during our message conversation, Daniel informed me that he took cash, check or card as forms of payment. For card, he would need an email address for receipt or invoice to pay online if by card. I had cash so that was the form of payment I used (when he quoted me is exactly what I paid; no extra fees). Before leaving he asked me to provide my email address, which I did. Later that night, I received an invoice for the service I received. I am happy with the service I received from Dan Does Plumbing. They promptly responded to my request and was able to provide same-day service. I normally do reviews after thinking about what I am going to write, however, this is a situation where I couldn't wait to do the review! I called Dan, after reviews from Yelp, because of my failed YouTube attempt to remove and install a bathroom faucet. I was proud of myself after removing the old faucet but my problems came after I "thought" I did it correctly. Well it was all good until I tested it by pouring water and of course it leaked! When I called Dan yesterday, which was Friday, he said he could make it to our house the next day which was today. This after he considered coming later that evening. I told him Saturday morning was fine. He was prompt and saw the "mistakes" I made and fixed it in less time than it took me to put putty on a pipe! Here are the reasons why Dan is da Man(couldn't resist): 1) He answered the phone!!! Not naming names but a plumber I used to use doesn't! 2) Dan is a man of his word. He said he would be at the house between 8:00 am to 8:30 am. He came 15 mins early. 3) Dan could have charged double what he did. Did I mention he came on a Saturday?! 4) Most importantly I can tell by our phone conversation and in person he genuinely cares about his customers well being. Dan broke my new kitchen faucet and blamed the water valve which had no problems before he replaced the faucet. He tried to fix the water valve and broke the pipe. He cut a hole on the wall to fix the pipe that he broke. He wanted me to pay for the wall repair which I disagreed. He stopped responding to my text and left me with a big hole on the wall under the sink. A small kitchen faucet replacement job tuned into a nightmare! If you're looking for a plumber, look no further, no seriously! Not only does Dan do some great work but more importantly, he's one of the most affordable and honest plumbers on the island (at least IMHO, for what it's worth). I like the fact that he started investigation immediately over the phone after making contact with him and trying my best to explain the issue we were facing by directing me to take various pictures and texted them to him to help him figure out what exactly we were dealing with. He then set up a time the same day, came over and got straight to work. I'm thinking since we worked together taking the photos he then knew what parts to bring for our issue saving us all time and restoring our access to water in our place. I feel it's hard to find quality blue collar businesses where you don't feel like they are trying to pull the wool over your eyes and w/ Dan, I definitely felt like he was looking out for us. Dan was the first to visit the house, take a look at our situation and give us a reasonable estimate which is free.
