THIS PLACE DESERVES 11 STARS…read more I came to London as a tourist, not knowing what to expect. My son and I found out about this place by a recommendation by someone in our hotel. The food is Mediterranean, which is a delicious food type already. Melabes is in a great location which has tons of shops around. So, when you get tired of spending your pounds in central London, you can come here for an amazing experience. The atmosphere is splendid and decorated beautifully. The service is impeccable, we got our food extremely swiftly. And lastly, the food is so delicious my conscious doesn't want to stop eating. So in conclusion, come on down for an overall splendid experience.

The rice was ordinary, nothing special IMHO. The Houmous Dip was excellent and could hold its own with many Mediterranean establishments. The pita was great as well. Took a minute to get my order taken after being seated but alls well that ends well during a busy Friday night service! I would think this would be a fun place to go as a group.

Its a family run business that really does pride itself on making you feel welcome once inside. I've traveled quite extensively around Greece and this place really does its best to reflect the hospitality you get out there. We always go there for lunch and have a couple of lamb Souvlakis as it really does take you back to Athens! They do a lot of dishes for two to share at some really good prices. I saw a seafood mixed grill float past me that looked really impressive. Great for large parties but do watch out for the Ouzo - it catches up on you after a few!

With wine still in our glasses, and coffee still hot?! Sorry, have to give a HUGE thumbs down on service. And offer my disbelief and dissatisfaction at whoever is managing this restaurant and borrowing from Greek culture, whilst missing out on the key component of Greek dining. Either you're a sell out. Or you're an outsider and you're exploiting Greek culture and cuisine. One the website we get: "MAZI, which means 'together' in Greek", but it should be followed with, "... but don't take too long, we will ask you to leave." Having said all of that, and trying not to affect the rest of the review, food was not great. Mushroom Chicken was the best dish (was the priciest line item - second to their service charge - but the only dish that I was impressed with). Tiger Prawn risotto was very bad (both the prawn, and the risotto). Grilled Octopus was average (size, prep and quality of octopus left a lot to be desired). The Calamari Citrus was also less than average. Lot's of the seafood sadly missed the mark - Tuna Crudo was the most satisfactory of all the seafood items. I will say that the cocktails were prepared well. Including a welcome drink. And the juices were fresh - albeit expensive. In fact, everything was overpriced - but it is London, I get it. Still wish the food tasted better. The atmosphere was loud and energetic. The cherry on top was the service charge (highest line item on the bill). Cheers to ownership and management for appropriating Greek culture and putting a heavy London spin on the dining experience. My family would have had some choice words for you, thankfully they were not present to be insulted. Anyone wanting Greek food, I would recommend to look elsewhere. The culture and cuisine has A LOT to offer, unfortunately Mazi disappointed for us.

Highly recommend stopping in here for a fresh, nutritious, and reviving meal. As a tourist, this is exactly what I needed to eat after several days of junkier food. We ordered family style, sharing: - a grilled chicken platter that came with salad, rice, and some kind of delicious spinach based sauce - meat stuffed aubergine with couscous, a yogurt sauce, vegetables, and potato salad - cabbage, carrot, parsley salad - Greek salad - pita and hummus Everything was so good and felt so good to eat. The flavors and textures all complemented each other well. The stuffed aubergine was said to have tasted just like my husband's Armenian grandmother's home cooking. Owners were super lovely!

A culinary experience of the Barbary Coast in London's Seven Dials…read more We loved this place so much that when we visited London twice in one year, we just had to come back for round two. This is a small, yet bustling restaurant. A U-shaped bar wraps around a fully visible kitchen. Service and experience are quite incredible. The menu is mostly small plates, intended to be shared and may come out as they're ready. We were just the two of us and here's what we ordered: We started it all off with Naan e Barbari and chose Zhoug and Za'aluk sauces to go with that. Then we moved onto Crispy Violet Artichokes, the Labneh, Hatzil, Parsley, the Fattoush salad and the Chilli Cauliflower. Along with these came the Coffee Rub Chicken, and the Pata Negra Pluma as our main proteins. Every bit of this experience and every plate is exquisite. I couldn't recommend The Barbary enough. Get yourself a reservation and try it for yourself.

Maybe my friend over-sold it and got my expectations up too high, because I was pretty disappointed in this dinner. We were asked if we wanted still or sparkling water. We said still and were brought out a £4.50 bottle. I know it's common to charge for water in Europe, so I didn't think much about it until I noticed that everyone else around us had refillable glass bottles -- free tap water that we were never even told was an option. We were seated downstairs at a large communal table. I don't necessarily mind that, but it was so loud that having a conversation was very difficult. My cocktail was delicious, but so tiny. The wine list was decent -- a good mix of options at various price points. As for the food, it was very hit or miss. The mushroom starter and the pork main dish were delicious. Unfortunately, the two most expensive dishes were disappointing. The prawns had great flavor, but a strangely soft, mushy texture. For me, the flavor made the weird texture okay, but my husband couldn't get over the mushiness of the shrimp and hated this dish. The sea bream was very bland and dry -- highly disappointing for the most expensive item on the menu. We ended on a high note with the affogato dessert (Yum!), but for such an expensive meal, there were just a few too many misses for us.
