Nice, clean, small RV park along the river. Full h/u. Within walking distance to everything, including the Creeper bike trail and AT.

We prefer the river sites personally for the views & fishing. The campground owners are fantastic people who've become friends. They live on site and take great pride in the property. The property is always impeccable. They are always working. Such a gorgeous place!! The pond is in the center of the property - yes you can fish (catch & release). Areas setup with hammocks, corn hole, seating, etc. The new playground has been a big hit! Oh, and there's also a dog park area. The bathhouses are super clean and have air conditioning. The laundry room is brand new with great units and also A/C. They incorporated additional activities this year over at the pavilion which our family has loved! Bingo, tie-dye t-shirts, food trucks, live music, and more! Our grandson loves to join us. Lots of kids and a great area for them to all play. Tubing the river is always a fun treat! You can bring your own tubes or rent from the campground. The camp store has expanded and features a great mix of items - t-shirts, hats, hoodies, koozies, and more. As well as local jams, rubs, and other treats. They're in the process of building a new office/camp store so we're excited to see this complete. We have a 40' fifth wheel. No problems every getting in. They accommodate all size rigs. All sites have a concrete pad, fire pit and very nice large picnic table. Sites are spacious and do not feel cramped like we've experienced at other campgrounds. Wi-Fi is generally pretty good. We've been able to work remote on some of our trips. We even had phone service our last trip (AT&T)! Lots to do in the area! Hiking, Linville Winery (yum!), Linville Caverns, Grandfather Mtn and so many other great places. The office staff can certainly provide plenty of recommendations, too. There are 2 grocery stores in town about 15min away. There's also a local dollar store about 5min away. We cannot say enough good things about MRFC. We've met some great campers there who we now call friends. We truly love this place and already have bookings for next year!

We had to go back through a neighborhood to find the right spot, and we waited for, the camp to bring us to our site. The coffee shop was a nice feature, but we were disappointed that it wasn't open on our way out of town Sunday. We understand why it's closed on Sundays, but the coffee shop, also being open to the public, should be open on Sundays if they're going to use this as a selling feature for coming to Big Mike's. The parking pads are a decent size and we had one right on the river. Since we were there in October, there wasn't a whole lot to do especially in the creek. It was evident at the time that big Mike was still working on expanding and building his dream RV park. The open area field is perfect for families so kids can run around or play ball. Overall, it was clean and the shower facilities were one of the best we'd experienced on our travels. We highly recommend big Mike's RV Resort!

Hidden away in the mountains of southern VA, is a great lake with water that looked crystal clear! You can paddleboat, kayak, canoe and swim! The swim spot is more than twice the size of Lake Anna State Park. And surrounded by the beautiful mountains. I hiked the 6 miles around the lake with the stop off ay Molly's Knob. It's gorgeous! I had preplanned this trip to see these parks down here many months ago. While, I camped in a tent at Claytor Lake, I rented a Yurt for two nights here at Hungary Mother. I've never stayed in a Yurt before and I loved it! It was hot though, don't get me wrong. That Yurt was like a volcano tube all day and 1/2 the night. Luckily I was gone during the daytime and due to location, around 3am to 6am it wasn't very hot at all. LoL. Mountains make the difference! The Yurt was spacious and lovely. I'll rent again in the future. Employees were nice. Gift shop was amazing. Unlike most other state parks, this one had long trails. Like I said, one was 6 miles..usually, at other parks, they have .5 and .9 mile trails that you peice together to make a 6 mile trail. Those who've been, know what I mean. My favorite VA State Park is Sky Meadows. Perfect for me and only 25 min from my house. Hungry Mother is second place winner for me!! Love it!

It was close to lunch time, so we decided to go to check it out and have a picnic lunch there, lake-side. Road signage to the main part of the park wasn't great, and our GPS took us to the campground which was a few miles from the Visitor's Center. A camper sent us in the right direction. We stopped at the Visitor's Center, paid the $7 parking fee, spoke with staff, and picked up a map. We learned from staff that Hungry Mother was one of VA's original six state parks. It's known for its woodlands and placid 108 acre lake. It offers miles of hiking and biking trails, fishing, boating (including rentals), a beach (with concessions in-season), camping and cabin rentals, and special events and programs. Our goal though was to take a short walk and to find a place to eat our picnic lunch! We found the Lake Trail loop, which is a 5.7 mile hiking and biking trail. The first mile parallels Park Blvd, and was gently rolling and relatively flat. Plus, it had picnic tables lake-side! Hungry Mother State Park was a pleasant place to stop during our travels. We hope to return in the future to explore it further. Slight mark-down in rating due to insufficient signage and for charging $7 for parking for a short visit and even when most amenities were still closed off-season. This is state of VA policy, not specific to Hungry Mother.

We did have a pretty scary mishap. Our Jeep while being disconnected rolled down a hill. My wife actually tried to jump in to stop it (not recommended!), and ended up with quite a few bumps, scrapes, and bruises. Thankfully, it wasn't anything more serious, but definitely a moment we won't forget. What truly stood out was the incredible response from the staff. Wayne showed up immediately and, along with Jennifer, and the front desk lady who I don't know her name, jumped into action. Wayne was able to safely pull our Jeep back up over the ledge, and their calm, supportive response made all the difference in a stressful situation. We are so grateful. Beyond that adventure, the campground has been fantastic. The grounds are clean, the playground is being updated, and they even blew up the jump pad for the kids, which was a huge hit! There are also resident donkeys who love carrots, which adds such a fun and unique touch. And I have to say......major win on the bathrooms and showers. They are spotless and thoughtfully designed, with plenty of space to hang clothes and set down toiletries (which, if you RV, you know is everything!). I truly can't say enough about how wonderful our stay has been. Great people, great atmosphere, and a place we would absolutely come back to. Highly recommend!

The site we have isn't as level as we would have liked but we are making it work. The office, on first glance, isn't very welcoming but the owner is very nice and accommodating. Don't be intimidated by Adeline, the bull mastiff, who is often at the door. She is a big lover dog. The wi-fi is excellent and allows us to stream what we need. There is a large solar array across the street which tells me this is a pretty sunny spot, which we find to be true. Which is good since we are wintering here this year. There needs to be a stop to these terrible campground conditions. The owner has no idea how to properly run a reputable campground and lies to your face about it being big rig friendly. We've been bless to have camped in all 49 continental States and we've never encountered such a dump.
