I had a really difficult day that day. We had bad storms and we don't live far from the campground, a couple hours south, but between the storm that not down a tree in our yard, I helped clean up and struggling with my diabetes, and then as I was driving North, a bad lightning storm I wasn't getting any service. I didn't know what to do or where to go. I ended up not spending the night after all, but I can say that communications were wonderful and the facility is beautiful. I did my research before I made a reservation for myself and I was going alone and I haven't been anywhere by myself in 10 years especially since I've become disabled so I ended up having to make other accommodations for the night and didn't get the pleasure of this visit but hopefully there's gonna be something open this weekend and I couldn't have Astro better communication. I can't. I did try to communicate late at night in late into the evening, but they do close their office at five and because of struggles with my diabetes which they have to be dealt with. I can't help that and then the storms here I got a very late start and once I was on my way, and I ran into this lightning storm I had no reception and no visibility. My GPS wasn't working correctly with no reception and this is also in an area that was affected by hurricane Helene and there was flash flooding warnings on the way up to the campground so I did what was the safest best thing for me but I just wanted to say that the prices are wonderful and fair. The facilities is beautiful. The family is kind and very communicative and I will definitely update if we are able to get a spot there this weekend so that our family can go and going with My Husband. I won't have the inability to take care of everything on my Own due to my unique situation so we'll actually make it this time lol I would highly recommend and also I did make it up there the following morning for my getaway and we were all talking about the lightning storm at a couple of places that I went and I was saying what it happened and I didn't make it to my destination where I was gonna stay and everybody that was local was like oh that's the best one out of all of the campgrounds around here if you come back, you need to stay there for sure you missed out and even though you couldn't help it, you know they're an awesome family and they have the nicest place so I did have a good word from local people too, so I'm gonna get a highly recommend for now. I'm sure it will only improve after this weekend. Hopefully there's a spot for us.!

Rode the Doe Mountain Recreation Area on our SxS while we were there on our stay, trail access is only about 1/2 mile down the road from the campground and is accessible by UTV or ATV. Campground is only about 20 mins from Mountain City and has great food options at very reasonable prices. Side note: Campground does have a very tight entrance to the property, some longer campers or trailers my have some difficulty getting in across the bridge to the campground.

The atmosphere is very laid back. Pets are welcomed. Everyone was so friendly. It was a great, central location to visit so many beautiful places in both TN and NC. We wanted to spend time hiking in Grayson Highlands & were late to the game on Labor Day weekend & all the camping was booked. After some digging we found this place & it was about 25 mins from the park & an easy drive. If you have ATT there is no service. We lost it about 30 mins before arrival. Our GPS still worked & it was nice to unplug but just a heads up. The important highlights: -Bathrooms are clean & well maintained. -Showers are hot & we never had to wait. -Must pay in cash -Dog friendly. My dog could be offleash & run around. No major roads around & very laidback. -The sights are right by the water so you can hear the creek & the views are nice -each site has a picnic table & firepit. The campsites are pretty close which was hard when 3 carloads with about 15 people showed up & made camp at the site next door. They weren't particularly cognizant of their noise levels & we couldn't sleep until around 11 when I finally went out to ask them to please keep it down. They only stayed one night & that's just par for the course sometimes with camping. The next night was much quieter & we slept great. All in all a great campground. An hourish from Boone & Blowing Rock. Bring supplies in as there aren't any major grocery stores around. Would stay there again if we were in the area.

There are trails on the grounds that are fun to hike and the bathhouse was clean! Domes and little cabins looked adorable so we will be back to try those out. The owner is great and the host (Mike) is beyond amazing! We've been camping there for 8 years and love it more each time we go. The camper spots are very spacious and C1-C3 are completely shaded. C3 is the best by far! But you have to book early because C3 is very popular! Some things to know before you go! They do not have water hookups at the sites - you fill your camper tank with water at the office area. They have spots with electric hookups. They have a dump station where you can empty your tanks on your way out. This is a simple & beautiful campground. There are trails to walk/hike, mountain view to see, bathhouse with 3 bathroom/showers, and one with just a bathroom. This is by far the cleanest bathhouse I have ever seen. They show great attention to this campground and make sure all their campers are happy. You can also purchase wood at the office. There are a few t-shirts for sale at the office, as well. If you haven't checked it out, you are truly missing out! This is a great place with great people!

Our site had…read moresewer hookup, but it was so far in the back that we would have needed three hoses to access it. There is absolutely no cell service, though they had free WiFi at the office and dining area. The owners also manage an on site cafe open Thursday through Sunday morning. We tried the Greek Pizza (though you need to preorder) on Saturday night and had biscuits and coffee for breakfast the next morning. Campers were recommending the scones, but they were already sold out by 9 am. Easy access to the trail, so no need to put your bikes on the rack to get to the White Top station. You just cross the street, turn left and hop on the path to the Virginia Creeper Trail. For those who do not want to cycle back up, there are several bike shuttle services to choose from. We stopped at Main Street Sweets and Eats in Damascus mid way through our ride. Don't miss the opportunity to grab a cold brew coffee, cookies and ice cream to get you through the second leg of the trail.

The showers are the best I have ever seen in a campground: hot water, lovely shower heads, beautiful and accurate amenities. We got breakfast both Saturday and Sunday. Homemade biscuits or bread, with sausage, or bacon, egg and cheese. They have artisan coffee! The sites have water and electricity. THERE is wifi at the office and relaxed indoor and outdoor seating there. The owners are delightful and knowledgeable about everything from gardening to music to outdoor adventure. This area needs the business with so much damage the Creeper Trail. These roads are great for biking. We saw very little traffic. We drove to Damascus, about 30 minutes, and took shuttle to Abingdon for a great ride back to Damascus. THERE is no food on that TRAIL and ingredients for fresh food was hard to find overall. Some light snacks at the Alvarez station which is about half way to Damascus. The Wicked Chicken in Damascus is great.

It's close to trails, bike shuttles, restaurants, dog park, shops and downtown. The noise from trucks on the main road through town is sometimes annoying but mostly it's quiet and pleasant.
