There was a huge ahade tree overhead which helped with the overhead sun the afternoon of our arrival. A picnic table on a concrete pad. All connections are within a few feet of each other, and the water pressure was good. This is a basic campground right off the highway. The road grade going in is pretty steep and there…read moreare a few tight turns getting in and out. But we are in a pretty big rig and managed fine. The site was level. We did have to use a longer hose for water connection. There are a number of "permanent" residents and some of their sites could have been better maintained. There is an area behind the park for tent camping that has a pretty creek with some picnic and play areas. Some mention highway noise but it didn't bother us. We camped at Pioneer Village Campground in a Fifth Wheel. There is nothing to do in Max Meadows but we weren't looking for that. Wytheville is a short drive and has everything you could need. The Log Cabin 1776 restaurant is a must as well as Skeeters if you like hot dogs. We made a trip to Bristol and really enjoyed hanging out for the day.

I had a really difficult day that day. We had bad storms and we don't live far from the campground, a couple hours south, but between the storm that not down a tree in our yard, I helped clean up and struggling with my diabetes, and then as I was driving North, a bad lightning storm I wasn't getting any service. I didn't know what to do or where to go. I ended up not spending the night after all, but I can say that communications were wonderful and the facility is beautiful. I did my research before I made a reservation for myself and I was going alone and I haven't been anywhere by myself in 10 years especially since I've become disabled so I ended up having to make other accommodations for the night and didn't get the pleasure of this visit but hopefully there's gonna be something open this weekend and I couldn't have Astro better communication. I can't. I did try to communicate late at night in late into the evening, but they do close their office at five and because of struggles with my diabetes which they have to be dealt with. I can't help that and then the storms here I got a very late start and once I was on my way, and I ran into this lightning storm I had no reception and no visibility. My GPS wasn't working correctly with no reception and this is also in an area that was affected by hurricane Helene and there was flash flooding warnings on the way up to the campground so I did what was the safest best thing for me but I just wanted to say that the prices are wonderful and fair. The facilities is beautiful. The family is kind and very communicative and I will definitely update if we are able to get a spot there this weekend so that our family can go and going with My Husband. I won't have the inability to take care of everything on my Own due to my unique situation so we'll actually make it this time lol I would highly recommend and also I did make it up there the following morning for my getaway and we were all talking about the lightning storm at a couple of places that I went and I was saying what it happened and I didn't make it to my destination where I was gonna stay and everybody that was local was like oh that's the best one out of all of the campgrounds around here if you come back, you need to stay there for sure you missed out and even though you couldn't help it, you know they're an awesome family and they have the nicest place so I did have a good word from local people too, so I'm gonna get a highly recommend for now. I'm sure it will only improve after this weekend. Hopefully there's a spot for us.!

There is a nice little creek running next to some of the sites. It is a short walk to the New River. We saw several people enjoying the river just wading in and some fishing. WI-FI was great- best we have had in a park yet. The owner Tom was great helping people in and out of their spots if they needed it. If I had to pick a negative- no camp fires - but it was worth not having one to stay in this beautiful place with great scenery. We didn't do it but they have river rafting and kayak rentals down the road. Saw lots of people enjoy that.

We were greeted very pleasantly & while driving to our site, we thought the sites looked quite nice. We stayed in Site #44 & it was level (unlike some of the reviews that said the sites were terribly undeveloped); we did find that the breaker on the power pole didn't work & we called right away & within a very short time, a really pleasant maintenance guy came, discovered he needed to replace the breaker, went right away & got it & we were able to setup not long after! We walked the entire property & found a lovely pool, a very cute putt-putt & lovely flowers & well cared for plants/trees everywhere. They have a really nice gift shop & game room & they sell Hunts Bros Pizzas that you can pick up. We had good water pressure & lovely views from our site, with no close by neighbors. We have been RV'ing for 13 years & have seen all types of RV parks--this one definitely does not deserve any of the bad reviews it has gotten, in my opinion!

We arrived Friday approximately 5 PM after a long down the road due to a few stops and heavy traffic, not to mention the terrain, after departing St. George, South Carolina. We were happy that they offered a military discount. Overall, this is a very beautiful park. Extremely well-kept! Yes, the spaces are a little tight if 100% filled however, I certainly didn't see anywhere, as mentioned by another reviewer, a sewer hook up 36 inches from a fire pit. They also offer a nice little café and sundry shop in their office. My wife and I had some of their breakfast pizza as well as a lunch pizza and chicken wings. All three were absolutely delicious! There is a small pool for children as well as a splash area. Additionally, there's a rather novel putt putt golf and gem mining area. In addition to RV spaces there are small apartments and large apartments. There are a number of long-term residents at the majority are short term rental. We liked it so much. We bookmarked it for a future stop if we're passing through the area. Keep up the great work!

Our site had…read moresewer hookup, but it was so far in the back that we would have needed three hoses to access it. There is absolutely no cell service, though they had free WiFi at the office and dining area. The owners also manage an on site cafe open Thursday through Sunday morning. We tried the Greek Pizza (though you need to preorder) on Saturday night and had biscuits and coffee for breakfast the next morning. Campers were recommending the scones, but they were already sold out by 9 am. Easy access to the trail, so no need to put your bikes on the rack to get to the White Top station. You just cross the street, turn left and hop on the path to the Virginia Creeper Trail. For those who do not want to cycle back up, there are several bike shuttle services to choose from. We stopped at Main Street Sweets and Eats in Damascus mid way through our ride. Don't miss the opportunity to grab a cold brew coffee, cookies and ice cream to get you through the second leg of the trail.

The showers are the best I have ever seen in a campground: hot water, lovely shower heads, beautiful and accurate amenities. We got breakfast both Saturday and Sunday. Homemade biscuits or bread, with sausage, or bacon, egg and cheese. They have artisan coffee! The sites have water and electricity. THERE is wifi at the office and relaxed indoor and outdoor seating there. The owners are delightful and knowledgeable about everything from gardening to music to outdoor adventure. This area needs the business with so much damage the Creeper Trail. These roads are great for biking. We saw very little traffic. We drove to Damascus, about 30 minutes, and took shuttle to Abingdon for a great ride back to Damascus. THERE is no food on that TRAIL and ingredients for fresh food was hard to find overall. Some light snacks at the Alvarez station which is about half way to Damascus. The Wicked Chicken in Damascus is great.
