Found this bed and breakfast online and were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. When I picture a bed-and-breakfast in my mind it's always this kind of place. A stately, large old home with lots of interesting history. The mountain laurel inn featured several large suites and some other bedrooms with private baths. The public areas are large and welcoming. Atmosphere is nice with the river and overflow dam nearby that if you're next to a window you can see. Atmosphere overall is ok. Nice tables and chairs; outlay of the table is ok, nothing special. The sun blinds most people in the early evening at the restaurant. They have blinds. I think Damascus Old Mill is a solid 4 stars for all of their amenities, service, and food quality and quantity. Charles was our waiter and he said as 5 stars. I watch other wait staff and they ranged from average 3 to 4 stars. Some didn't know the alcohol menu as much as I'd want a server to know it. We had burger, sirloin and ribeye. All were good and everyone was satisfied with their selection and the food. I was disappointed in their ribeye. Good cut, but was undercooked for my medium request. The cut was ok and I didn't think it was as tender as I'd expected from a 21 day aged meat. It was ok. I would casually recommend it, especially for $50 for a ribeye. Desserts...absolutely delicious! I need to try them all. Overall, Damascus Old Mill restaurant is a recommend. I'd skip the ribeye and go their burger frankly. Ribeye is it all that for their price point.

The website has wonderful pictures of cottages and looks super inviting. I'm sure the hosts are great, but their reservation system sucks. Their website does not contain an online reservation form--only a standard contact us form and phone number. So not trusting online forms, I called to make my reservation. I spoke a very lovely woman for nearly 30 minutes who took down my name, phone number and email (which she had from the voice message I'd previously left) told me all about the property and about the town, helped me select a rooms for our group, and even promised to send me more information about the property and the town via email later on. She explained that the rooms were reserved for us and was looking forward to welcoming us "all the way from Chicago" in September. That was in January. Now, it's September and there's absolutely no record of our reservation. Lost. Gone. Ghosted. Apparently, phoned-in reservations don't count because when I inquired about our lost reservation citing this 30 minute phone call we had back in January, she responded with the following: "We get so many phone inquiries that we use the online contact form as a back up so we do not overbook. When those aren't filled out we assume that they have found another place or that their plans have changed. After the form is filled out we send a confirmation and we try to touch base closer to time. I am so sorry that we do not have your reservation." Uh. Wait, what? I was suppose to go back online and fill out a form AFTER I talked to a human to make my reservation? Oh, boy...

It's definitely a laid back and rustic environment but I was all in. Paul takes care of his customers and he was very adamant in teaching us the rules of the river before letting us launch. I had $60 in cash and he would only take $40 even thought the price was listed as $50. It's a great deal for you to kayak, paddle board and tube on the gorgeous river. We had it basically to ourselves that day and it was a revelation. The only thing I'd say is there needs to be upgrades to the life jackets. Most of them were child sized. However, all of the other equipment was well maintained. Please go and support this business!

We came with our 3 young adult children and 2 dogs, we all want to return for another vacation! The river is gorgeous, I started my day with my coffee and the river. The facilities include a fire pit, tables and chairs outside, a grill in a cabana area, horseshoes and we took advantage of all of it! Convenient to quaint Elizabethton and Roan Mountain, and we rafted down the Watauga River with Wahoo Adventures. Plenty of time to rest, walk, play games, work on a puzzle and enjoy the peace and quiet. When you're ready to plug in you can enjoy the Direct tv and Netflix available! The owners are lovely people and our dogs loved playing with theirs. I highly recommend this location--it has made me rethink beach vacations and make mountain/river vacations the way to go!

I'm always weary of staying in rentals because I'm super picky with cleanliness, but Bee Cliff Cabins are spotless. The cabins are located in a remote location away from the city noise and are equipped with anything you may need for your stay. The kitchen has mugs, plates, pans, paper towels, napkins and utensils. The rooms are spacious and are kept clean and clutter free. The bathroom is stocked with plenty of towels for your stay. There was a TV in our living room with comfortable couches and a lazy boy which was probably my husband favorite thing from the trip ;). Our cabin had a deck with chairs, which my husband and I used in the mornings to enjoy our coffee. This was my first time staying at Bee Cliff Cabins but my husband and oldest son had stayed there before. We will definitely be staying here again. I cannot say enough wonderful things about it!
